Chapter 822: Wandering Outpost
Not long after, Li Yu followed Sang Lin's Spaceship and arrived at the location of their Wandering Outpost.
This was an extremely bright patch of Starry Sky, because of the existence of a supermassive celestial body resembling a star.
More than half of the matter on its surface was gathered together as fuel, producing violent Energy Reactions at all times.
The super-strong energy waves and light radiation released could be detected by Prism Towers from very far away.
The Scanner of the Symbiotic Colonization Armor showed that the diameter of this mass of matter exceeded a hundred thousand kilometers, far larger than a regular Life Planet.
Of course, this was the average diameter; its exterior was not very regular.
Although observing its shape from a distance looked somewhat like a star, its super-strong light and heat radiation, as well as its volume, all indicated that this was definitely not the same kind of thing as a star.
At the same time, its relatively loose structure was also vastly different from a single planet in the ordinary sense.
Because of the violent Energy Reactions, the brightness and radiation intensity of this object were thousands of times or even more than that of an ordinary star.
They didn't have biological visual systems to begin with, only using Scanners for mimetic imaging.
However, Sang Lin and his companion had already put on special Glasses to avoid being burned by the brightness.
"Mr. Li Yu, here's one for you..." Sang Lin thoughtfully offered a pair of Glasses.
But Li Yu just waved his hand. Sang Lin was about to remind him that this "Special Celestial Body" was the highest crystallization of their civilization, and also their current Means of Survival.
Just the temperature and brightness of its surface were enough to ward off many dangers; the visual systems of Ordinary Lifeforms couldn't bear it at all.
But as he looked at the light reflecting in Li Yu's eyes, resembling two dazzling gems, the words at the tip of his tongue couldn't be spoken no matter what.
He had never seen a lifeform that could look directly at this Special Celestial Body.
And outside this space occupied by the Special Celestial Body, there was only the vast Dead Silent Space, and the chaotic ring zone behind it.
"There are lifeforms existing within it, hiding an Internal Space, yet existing in this external shape. Interesting..."
Li Yu's eyes were covered with special symbols. His field of vision pierced through the blazing flames on the surface and saw the central space.
There were a large number of Spaceships and spaces existing in the center of this celestial body, where many lifeforms lived, using this as a Base and constantly wandering.
And on the surface of this Special Celestial Body, there were tall Prism Towers.
Sang Lin's ship was currently located at the top of one of these Prism Towers.
Li Yu stood in front of the porthole and could see the scenery outside.
The blazing flames on the celestial body seemed as if they would rush in without reservation, like a heatwave about to incinerate everything.
However, the Shield formed by the Prism Tower had already filtered out the heat and ninety-nine percent of the luminosity of this celestial body. The raging flames formed by the sunlight were just an illusion.
This was Sang Lin's Wandering Outpost. Using the Special Celestial Body as concealment, it evaded many dangers and survived in the Universe.
Heat columns from the surface of the celestial body below rushed into space, carrying giant fuel fragments.
One of the blazing fragments, roughly two kilometers long, just happened to brush past the Spaceship.
It looked as if a burning continent was falling into space under reversed Gravity—a spectacular sight.
This was a very miraculous scene, and Li Yu watched with keen interest.
Right at this moment, Li Yu noticed that the "horizon" outside the Prism Tower was rising.
The broadcast from this Spaceship's Carrier Mainframe subsequently sounded:
"Positioning complete, identification code confirmed... Withered Leaf, begin descent. Shield and various filtering levels increased by ten percent. There might be slight turbulence, please make standard preparations against Impact..."
A not-so-violent shaking came from beneath their feet. This Spaceship was enveloped by a thin membrane popped out from the Prism Tower, merged into the gaseous outer shell of this celestial body, and began to descend rapidly.
The outer layer of this celestial body was not solid but gaseous, so it did not have a truly distinct "outer shell."
However, there was still a relatively distinct boundary line on its surface.
Violent Energy Reactions and super-strong Gravity pulled against each other, forming a boundary with extremely high gas matter density on the surface of the celestial body.
Fierce cyclones and turbulent heatwaves rapidly rotated on this boundary, forming an unfixed outer shell.
This outer shell was constantly changing; occasionally it would expand outward by tens of thousands of kilometers or contract inward by tens of thousands of kilometers.
The shaking that just occurred was precisely produced when the Spaceship came into contact with the cyclones.
These circumstances were enough to explain that the civilization Sang Lin belonged to was not simple.
The temperature on the surface of this Special Celestial Body was enough to kill the vast majority of A-Tier Lifeforms.
For a conventional civilization, breaking through at this level of technological difficulty would be hard, let alone hiding a normal living space inside.
Looking out through the porthole with the naked eye, one could basically see nothing at all.
Light that far exceeded the limit filled all the surrounding space. Looking at it with the naked eye, one could only see an endless storm composed of light and heat.
The eyes of an ordinary creature would be burned out in just a millisecond in this kind of environment.
Although Li Yu didn't care about this, he couldn't see anything valuable either.
"Attention, entering the Energy Barrier. The target will enter the traction field range in thirty seconds... Ten seconds... Five seconds... Under traction..."
As the Carrier Mainframe's voice fell, the scene outside the Spaceship suddenly changed. A large number of Spaceships and alloy fortresses appeared around them.
They floated quietly inside the celestial body. There were signs of massive lifeform activity among the Flying Vehicles coming and going. The lighting was soft, and a peaceful atmosphere prevailed, like a paradise isolated from the world.
"When the Civilization's Demise occurred, I hadn't even been born yet. According to my grandfather, at our Civilization's Apex, we controlled thousands of Star Systems and were A Radiant Star among Cosmic Civilizations."
Sang Lin's tone carried some sighing emotion. His spoken words had already been synchronously translated into a more easily understood language by the Symbiotic Colonization Armor.
"Before he died, grandfather still hoped for the civilization's revival. To me, it doesn't matter. Having never seen the Civilization's Apex, I feel things are pretty good right now."
In the corner, Batu carefully observed Li Yu, always feeling that this guy was very scary.
Li Yu was Noncommittal, feeling nothing toward this. Every civilization had its own hardships; he had seen quite a few and found it hard to empathize.
"Withered Leaf, preparing for mission verification. Please prepare for delivery." A cold Artificial Intelligence voice sounded in the channel.
Following the traction glide rails, this Spaceship docked at a certain Shipyard.
The Blast Door opened, and a Robot walked in, holding a Mechanical Tray in its hands, and spoke: "Respected Mr. Sang Lin, please place the items you collected on the tray. I will perform an assessment and convert them into points for you."
"Okay..." Sang Lin hurriedly walked into the Warehouse.
Meanwhile, Li Yu, who was hidden by Sang Lin, once again extended an imperceptible Data Probe, inserting it into this Robot's Corporeal Form to let Claptrap begin hacking into this Wandering Outpost.
Not long after, Sang Lin came over holding a few glass boxes and carefully placed the items inside onto the Mechanical Tray.
"Detecting... Heavenly Star Mother Ore, mass 534 grams; Radium Core, mass 254 grams..."
"Space-Tempered Crystal!" The Robot's voice suddenly rose several octaves: "Mass 1753 grams!"
"Congratulations, Mr. Sang Lin. You have over-completed your weekly mission. 145,630 points have been paid into your account."
The Robot finished its calculations and left with the items.
"Space-Tempered Crystals are indeed valuable. A full one hundred and forty thousand points! Great, this way we can exchange for a new Spaceship!"
Batu, however, complained a bit: "Why is it only 145,630 points? According to my estimation, it should be around one hundred and fifty thousand points."
Sang Lin didn't care at all: "It's probably because the exchange price of a certain material fluctuated again. It's just a few thousand points, no need to mind."
He was a big spender of points now; a mere few thousand points was just a drop in the bucket.
"Four thousand points is enough to eat several hundred hearty meals..." Batu muttered. Just as he was about to pack up and leave, he inadvertently glanced over, and his face suddenly changed drastically, saying:
"Sang... Sang Lin, it's the Enforcement Team!"
"What?" Sang Lin was also stunned. Looking into the distance through the porthole, he saw a Fully armed squad slowly walking over, wearing all-metal outer armor and holding Weapons.
"It's Konis. This is troublesome. Why is he on duty today? I clearly calculated the time; it shouldn't be him today." Sang Lin frowned tightly and glanced at Li Yu's hiding place.
"We're done for, we're done for..." Batu's face was pale, and his round body trembled non-stop.
"Calm down, it's fine. We have no suspicion of breaking the law; he can't randomly target us." Sang Lin told Batu to calm down, but it obviously didn't have much effect.
"If we're found randomly bringing in an outsider lifeform, we'll be expelled. We're done for, we're done for..."
Slap!
Batu froze, touched his own face, and looked at Sang Lin in confusion: "Did you hit me?"
"No..." Sang Lin shook his head and said solemnly: "Listen to me, we must stay calm; only then is it possible to escape this ordeal."
"Okay, okay!" Batu nodded vigorously.
Right at this moment, the Blast Door was opened again. Konis walked in with his subordinates, a scrutinizing and evaluating look on his face:
"I heard you found a Space-Tempered Crystal on this mission. Quite lucky, aren't you?"
The Robot receiving the mission items had just left, and it was unknown where he had heard it from.
"It's alright," Sang Lin replied neither humbly nor arrogantly.
Konis looked around the cabin and said with a pointed meaning: "Space-Tempered Crystals only appear in spatial fragmentation regions. With the performance of this Spaceship, how could you possibly obtain one? You guys didn't commit any rule violations, did you?"
As soon as these words came out, Batu's face turned completely white, and his body began to tremble slightly.
Konis naturally caught this scene. His eyes flickered, and he walked over to Batu, saying in a low voice: "Batu, what's wrong with you? Guilty Conscience?"
"I know you've always been timid and can't bear much pressure. What happened during your mission this time?"
"What did Sang Lin do to get the Space-Tempered Crystal?"
"Don't worry, as long as you tell me, I'll count you as innocent."
Batu's lips trembled, and then he suddenly shouted loudly: "No, Sang Lin got the Space-Tempered Crystal because of his superb skills... Don't... don't spout nonsense!"
"I know you're targeting... targeting Sang Lin because of Siphia!"
As soon as these words came out, Sang Lin's expression changed slightly, inwardly crying out that this was bad.
Konis's face darkened. He kicked Batu to the ground and said coldly: "I suspect that the Withered Leaf pilot, Sang Lin, committed rule violations during the mission. Search the entire Spaceship and check the System Log!"
"Yes, sir!" His subordinates received the order and began taking action.
Sang Lin gritted his teeth and said: "Konis, you don't have search Authority!"
"Hehe..." Konis just glanced at him indifferently and said: "Scram to the side!"
Sang Lin's heart boiled with anger, but there was nothing he could do. He was no match for the Enforcement Team at all; rushing forward would be useless.
It clearly wasn't his shift...
Sang Lin sighed inwardly. He knew bringing Li Yu back was a violation, but other people had done such things too; as long as it wasn't brought to the surface, it would be fine.
But as luck would have it, they encountered Konis.
He had obtained the Space-Tempered Crystal from Li Yu, so he felt too embarrassed to just leave the other party to fend for himself in the Starry Sky.
He closed his eyes somewhat despairingly, watching helplessly as Konis pushed open the Blast Door, behind which was Li Yu's hiding spot.
"Reporting, everything is normal, nothing was found!" The Enforcement Team member's voice sounded by Sang Lin's ear, and he opened his eyes in disbelief.
He saw an unbelievable scene: Konis was frowning tightly, looking around.
And Mr. Li Yu was standing right in front of him, his expression calm, not even looking at Konis.
Yet Konis seemed completely unable to see Mr. Li Yu.
Batu pointed at the direction where Konis, or rather, Li Yu actually was, his face deathly pale, unable to speak a single word, his teeth chattering.
"Everything is normal?" Konis frowned, staring at Sang Lin and Batu for a few glances.
If it were normal, how could Batu have that reaction?
But they had searched every corner of this Jalopy Spaceship, and there was indeed nothing.
The System Log was also fine. Even if he was unwilling to accept it, he couldn't casually fabricate a charge for these two guys.
"Konis, I have already recorded this. You forcibly searched my Spaceship without search Authority. I will submit this record to the Court of Justice," Sang Lin said coldly.
Konis's expression changed several times, and he shouted: "Don't forget, my father is..."
Sang Lin said in a deep voice: "I know your father is a grand judge, but don't forget, if you want Advancement, you can't have any stains on your record, not even a little bit!"
"Stop targeting me from now on!"
Konis stared deadly at him. After a moment, he coldly ordered: "Let's go!"
