Chapter 182: The Dawn Society's Probe
"What?"
Jiang Cheng looked at them with a bewildered expression.
"Hahaha."
The crowd burst into laughter at once.
"Nothing, nothing, just playing a joke on you."
"Yeah, last night something big happened in Po Luozi Alley: dozens of Law Enforcement Bureau members were killed, all in the same way—shot in the head. Some of us suspect that you were behind it."
"Huh? There's that too?"
Jiang Cheng was dumbfounded.
"Hahaha, you didn't know? Come, come, we were just talking about it. Want to come listen?"
"Sure."
Jiang Cheng nodded.
But at that moment, his phone rang.
He took it out and saw it was a call from Hong Cha.
"Sorry, let me take this call."
Jiang Cheng gave the crowd an apologetic smile, walked to a corner, and answered the call.
"Hello?"
"Cang Hai, little brother, it's me, Hong Cha."
Hong Cha's bright laugh rang out, "How's it going? Getting my call—was that a bit unexpected?"
"It was a bit unexpected."
Jiang Cheng smiled.
In fact, inside, he had some mental preparation.
Just as they had been discussing the incident in Po Luozi Alley all along.
As the person in charge, Bing Li couldn't possibly be unaware.
Perhaps he would also suspect him.
So when the phone rang, he thought it was Bing Li calling, but actually…
"Hahaha, sorry about that. I've been busy these past few days and just got back today. Since you've been with Dawn Society for several days now, do you have time? How about we meet and chat? If you have any questions, you can ask me."
"Alright."
Jiang Cheng answered at once, "I just arrived at headquarters. Hong Cha, where are you now?"
"You've arrived, huh? Okay, just come to the Office Building; I'll be waiting at the entrance."
"Fine, I'm coming right now."
After speaking, Jiang Cheng hung up.
He slightly furrowed his brows.
He always felt this matter wasn't just simple human concern.
But how it truly is, only the past will reveal.
After saying goodbye to the others, Jiang Cheng rushed straight to the Office Building; from a distance, he saw a silhouette standing at the entrance.
The other also saw him and waved.
It was Hong Cha.
He stepped forward, patted Jiang Cheng's shoulder, and laughed, "Haven't seen each other for a few days—how's it going? Are you getting used to life inside the Society?"
"Pretty good, everyone in the Society is nice, and they speak pleasantly," Jiang Cheng said with a smile.
"Hahaha, yeah, sometimes I envy you all, being able to stay at headquarters every day. I'm always running around; let's go, we can talk after entering the Conference Room."
Hong Cha looped his arm around Jiang Cheng's and walked into a Conference Room.
The two sat down facing each other.
Hong Cha surveyed Jiang Cheng from head to toe and said, "Cang Hai, I've heard the full story of your first mission. Even Ye Ying was at a loss, yet you managed to turn the tide. Not bad—I was right not to misjudge you."
"Thanks for the compliment, Hong Cha. That time also owed a lot to Ye Ying's cooperation."
"You're being modest."
Hong Cha laughed, "I also heard from Ye Ying—she's completely impressed by your Gunmanship. Moreover, these past few days your reputation in the Society has grown; everyone knows your Gunmanship is superb, even if it costs two thousand per hour, they still want to learn from you."
"Not at all, they just think highly of me," Jiang Cheng said, growing more puzzled inside, wondering if Hong Cha really just came to show concern. "No need to be so modest; here, strength is paramount. If you're strong, everyone naturally respects you."
Hong Cha said, paused briefly, then changed tone, "Cang Hai, did you hear about the incident spreading outside this morning?"
Jiang Cheng tentatively asked, "Is it the Po Luozi Alley incident?"
"Right, looks like you've heard about it too," Hong Cha nodded slightly.
"Yeah, when I just got off the elevator, I heard them all discussing it, and after seeing me they asked if I was the one who did it," Jiang Cheng said with a wry smile.
Hong Cha's expression turned serious, "Cang Hai, tell me honestly—did you actually do that?"
Jiang Cheng was stunned.
His mouth hung open, disbelief flashing in his eyes.
Time seemed to freeze at that moment.
Three seconds later, Hong Cha let out a booming laugh, "Hahaha, just kidding."
"No, Hong Cha, why do you, like everyone else, think I did it?"
Jiang Cheng wore a helpless expression.
"Just because that person's Gunmanship is so accurate?"
"I guess so."
Hong Cha smiled: "I was just asking casually; it's fine if it isn't you. I heard the upper levels of the Law Enforcement Bureau have already mobilized the Special Action Squad to investigate the murderer."
"Special Action Squad?"
Jiang Cheng's face showed a puzzled expression.
"A group of very strong guys."
Hong Cha's eyes showed apprehension, "Usually they operate in groups of three, none of them are below level five. Even if I ran into them, I'd only have the option to turn and run. Cang Hai, if that incident was done by you, you can still admit it now; the bureau will find a way for you and resolve this matter."
"......"
Jiang Cheng's expression became even more helpless.
"Hahaha."
Hong Cha laughed again.
"Just trying to scare you a bit; if you didn't do it, there's nothing to worry about."
"Of course it's not me. I'm not close with the Law Enforcement Bureau people; even if there were a conflict, I don't have that ability—one person can't take down so many of them."
"Yeah, I think the same."
Hong Cha nodded, "Have you run into any difficulties in your cultivation lately? Although I don't practice Broken Jade Fist, some basics are still common. If you tell me, maybe I can give you some insight."
Jiang Cheng sighed, "There is indeed a difficulty: my Spiritual Power is too low, the amount of raw energy I absorb daily is limited, and Entry into the Visualization Method is also too hard."
Hong Cha gave a wry smile upon hearing that.
"Regarding the first problem, I can help you. Didn't you complete a mission? You should have received a decent reward; just buy a pill that accelerates Spiritual Power recovery. As for the second problem, I'm sorry, I really can't help, but I can talk to Ye Ying for you; perhaps she'll agree to help."
"Is that so? But Ye Ying is probably busy too; I'll try to figure it out myself first, and if it really doesn't work, I'll go find her."
"Fine, when the time comes you can call her, or just call me and I'll pass the message."
Hong Cha smiled and agreed.
"Cang Hai, besides that, do you have any other difficulties? You can tell me anything; as long as I can help, there's no problem."
Jiang Cheng thought for a moment and shook his head.
"Not for now."
"Alright, let's stop here for today. If you have any more questions later, you can tell me."
"Mm."
"Let's go, I'll see you off."
Hong Cha pushed open the door and escorted Jiang Cheng to the doorway.
After watching the latter walk away, he turned, walked down the corridor, and arrived at the outside of an office.
He knocked on the door.
"Come in."
Inside, Bing Li's voice sounded.
