336. Chapter 336: What a Genius? A Waste!

Clap—clap—clap.

In the Refining Alchemy room, a burst of applause sounded.

Gu Zhangjun smiled warmly and looked at Jiang Cheng.

No wonder the Dawn Society members are all turning green with regret; missing a talent like you, if it were me, I'd be patting my own thigh in envy.

"Fifth Young Master, you flatter me," Jiang Cheng shook his head, "I don't have such great skill; it's simply because I used enough ingredients."

Although the title felt awkward to him, under the eaves he still had to bow his head.

"Brother, you're being too modest!"

Gu Zhangjun emphasized his tone.

"Alright, I'll tell you the truth: I came over from the Inner City District especially for you."

"For me?"

Jiang Cheng's face showed surprise.

He glanced at the silent Gu Zhangkong beside him.

Faintly, he guessed the truth of the matter.

"Indeed."

Gu Zhangjun lifted his head and straightened his chest. "I've heard of your performance; with your talent staying in the Outer City District is truly a waste. The Inner City District is where you belong. Moreover, I've heard of your alchemy method—many have tried it before, but abandoned it because the cost was exorbitant. Yet with your talent, you can walk the path others cannot. The cost of First-grade and Second-grade materials I, my third brother, can still bear, but what about Third-grade?"

He gave Gu Zhangkong a slightly smug glance.

"A single batch of Third-grade Awakening Pill ingredients costs nearly 500,000; ten batches are 5,000,000. And this lets you refine one furnace of elixir—one furnace costs five million, ten furnaces fifty million, a hundred furnaces five hundred million. What about two hundred or three hundred furnaces? I dare not say more, but even tens of billions, I could still provide."

Jiang Cheng felt his heart stir at those words.

To be fair, this was indeed what he had dreamed of.

And he could guess that, even if Gu Zhangkong were willing to support, he probably couldn't muster that much money.

But one must have conscience.

Gu Zhangkong and Yang Chun were both kind to him.

Switching allegiance for a bit of profit is too unprincipled, and from Gu Zhangkong's expression, the two might still be rivals.

Gu Zhangjun's voice rang out again.

"Besides that, staying in the Inner City District is far safer than staying here. The Dawn Society lot are a bunch of leeches; they won't let you go so easily. Leaving with me is safer, of course, provided one condition."

He raised a finger.

"You must use two batches of ingredients to refine another elixir, so I can see your true level. The more High-grade Elixirs you produce, the more I value you, and the greater the benefits I'll give you."

"This..."

Jiang Cheng's face showed difficulty.

"Little brother, when an opportunity comes you must cherish it, otherwise once missed, it never returns," the middle-aged man said.

"It's not that I don't want to cherish it, but you all hold me in too high regard."

Jiang Cheng sighed.

"I've only just begun refining Calming Pills; even the basic ones, let alone high-quality, I might not be able to produce many."

Hearing this, Gu Zhangkong and Yang Chun exchanged a glance, then silently averted their eyes.

"Is that so?"

Gu Zhangjun's face showed disappointment and suspicion.

"Then refine one furnace for me to see."

"This..."

Jiang Cheng looked at Gu Zhangkong.

"Let's do as he says."

Gu Zhangkong nodded.

"Alright."

Jiang Cheng agreed, and after completing a series of preparations, placed the two batches of ingredients into the alchemy furnace.

Time passed bit by bit, and Jiang Cheng was drenched in sweat.

In the furnace, only two pills formed.

Without watching further, the few people in the Refining Alchemy room knew that this furnace would yield at most two Basic Tranquil Pills, worth only twenty thousand on the market, not even covering the cost.

Gu Zhangjun's interest dropped instantly.

So that's the so-called genius alchemist?

Fortunately he had taken the time to come. Seeing that the elixir still needed about an hour to finish, he could no longer wait, turned toward the door, pressed the open button, and left.

"Fifth Younger Brother!"

Gu Zhangkong, seeing this, suppressed a smile and chased after him.

"Fifth Younger Brother! You're leaving already? The elixir hasn't finished yet!"

"No need. With this level of skill, calling you a refining genius? What genius? You're nothing but a waste!" Gu Zhangjun muttered angrily.

In truth, even so, Jiang Cheng's displayed talent was acceptable, but his expectations were too high, especially after seeing the previous furnace of High-grade Calming Pills; the gap was obvious.

The middle-aged man behind him looked as if he wanted to speak but held back.

"I told you this before, but you didn't listen."

Gu Zhangkong sighed, glanced at his wristwatch, and said, "It's still early; why not stay for a meal?"

"No, I have business back home; let's stop here."

The goal was not achieved.

Gu Zhangjun simply stopped hiding it; his attitude had done a complete 180-degree turn from when he arrived.

Gu Zhangkong, however, was already accustomed to it.

His younger brother is nothing but a selfish fool who, despite being utterly stupid, thinks highly of himself.

The two boarded the flying device, swiftly soared to high altitude, turned into a black dot, and vanished.

"Hah."

Gu Zhangkong let out a cold laugh.

"Supervisor, Jiang Lao Di is still waiting for us to go back," Yang Chun reminded from the side.

"Yeah, let's go see him."

Gu Zhangkong was in a great mood, his steps much lighter than before.

He had originally worried that Jiang Cheng couldn't resist the temptation, since in terms of conditions he was indeed lacking, but fortunately Jiang Cheng wasn't the sort to forget righteousness for profit.

The two quickly arrived.

Seeing Jiang Cheng still there, drenched in sweat, Gu Zhangkong couldn't help but say, "Alright, stop the act, the person has already left."

"Left?"

"Yeah."

Yang Chun also laughed, "Old brother, your acting is not bad—you almost fooled me too."

"Not at all, just a petty trick."

Jiang Cheng wiped the sweat from his forehead, glanced at the pills in the furnace, and felt a bit regretful.

"It's just two batches of medicinal ingredients; if it's wasted, it's wasted."

Gu Zhangkong shook his head. "Your current alchemy level—have you already reached mastery level?"

"As expected, I can't hide it from the supervisor."

Jiang Cheng smiled.

"Really mastered?"

Yang Chun couldn't help but ask again.

"If Elder Brother Yang doesn't believe me, I'll demonstrate—if using two batches of ingredients, refining one or two high-grade calming pills shouldn't be a problem."

"Never mind."

Gu Zhangkong said, "There's no need; my younger brother, though a bit slow, has probably figured it out by now—if he comes back swinging again, it wouldn't be good."

"Yeah, the guy behind him seems to have already guessed it, just never had the chance to say," Yang Chun thought of that middle-aged man.

In fact, that's true as well.

After soaring to high altitude, the middle-aged man piloting the flying device voiced his suspicion that Jiang Cheng was acting.

"Uncle Huang, you mean he's deceiving me?"

Gu Zhangjun widened his eyes.

"The possibility is high."

The middle-aged man nodded.

"Uncle Huang, why didn't you say earlier?" he said, face full of resentment.

"You left so quickly back then, even blurting out what was in your heart..." The middle-aged man was speechless, yet he said it so loudly—how could he say it? "Damn it."

Gu Zhangjun cursed, "I personally came over and offered such good terms, yet he dared to deceive me? Toast not taken, then forced drink—right? Uncle Huang, let's go back, you go kill him!" (End of chapter)
