Chapter 91: Could He Be?
Bean-sized beads of sweat rolled off his forehead.
The buzz-cut man already imagined how Wu Tian would erupt in fury later.
"If only I'd known, I would have chased after them together back then."
He kept lamenting inwardly.
His mind was in disarray.
Originally, they were just looking for places where people could be hidden.
Later, they even searched the nightstand drawers.
Wu Tian watched the scene, his anger boiling over.
By now, he could hardly not guess that the kid had probably taken the person to another place, just to keep them away from us.
If those people couldn't catch up, they'd return empty‑handed tonight.
"Hey, Brother Tian, what's this?"
Suddenly, the buzz-cut man turned around, holding a black Mask in both hands, exposing only his eyes and mouth.
Wu Tian glanced at it.
"Brother Tian, how does this kid have that? Could it be that he wears it every night to commit theft?"
The buzz-cut man, trying to liven the mood, laughed loudly.
Wu Tian hadn't cared at first, but hearing that, an inexplicable unease rose in his heart.
He was right; which respectable household would own such a thing? If not to conceal wrongdoing and avoid being recognized, why bother masking oneself? The key is, what misdeeds could a street vendor possibly commit? Turn to theft? That kid's Roasted Sweet Potato business is booming; even he envies it.
A flash of white light flickered in Wu Tian's mind, suddenly recalling a previous scene.
As the saying goes, two fists can't match four hands, let alone five, six, seven, eight hands, each brandishing a Watermelon Knife.
What about the martial hall members? They're just ordinary people too.
Then that kid, wielding two Iron Staffs, charged forward unscathed.
Was it really just luck? "Wait, Iron Staff?"
Wu Tian inhaled a sharp breath of cold air.
A couple of days ago, the Gang Leader's bodyguard said that Wei Bao's men were killed by Iron Staffs, and the killer was most likely the same person.
Could that person be...? At that thought, Wu Tian felt a chill surge from the soles of his feet straight to his celestial spirit cover.
If Jiang Cheng were that murderer, they wouldn't just retreat but would storm someone's home? It's like lighting a lantern inside a toilet—asking for death. "What a strange fellow."
The buzz-cut man chuckled, tossed the Mask aside, and resumed rummaging through the drawer.
"Hei Jiao, how long have they been gone?" Wu Tian's voice rang out.
The buzz-cut man paused, glanced at the wall clock, and said, "Brother Tian, I recall we left at 6:30 p. m.; it takes five or six minutes to get here. It's now 7:10 p. m.; they've been chasing for about fifteen or twenty minutes."
"Brother Tian, don't worry; they've surely caught that kid and are on the way back."
"Leave this place first!"
Wu Tian sprang to his feet.
"Huh?"
The buzz-cut man opened his mouth wide, puzzled, "Leave here? Then when they return, they won't be able to find us right away?"
"Then stay here and wait for them. If they come back, take the person to the old spot," Wu Tian said evenly.
"Ah, okay, okay, Brother Tian, don't worry; I'll handle this beautifully," the buzz-cut man quickly agreed, eager to please.
"Hope, I overthought it."
Wu Tian thought to himself.
If that kid truly was the murderer of Wei Bao and his men, the pursuers were already likely doomed, left only to await death. If I stay here alone and he doesn't return by nightfall, there's no doubt the kid is the killer! The Deputy Gang Leader is sparing no effort in the investigation, even offering a 100,000‑yuan bounty. Losing a few underlings for that reward isn't a loss.
If it weren't him, it would be easier—just go back to rest; sitting here does nothing.
But just two steps after he moved, a silhouette abruptly appeared at the doorway, stretched long by the candlelight.
Wu Tian startled, instinctively stepped back two paces, feeling a looming disaster.
"Eh?"
The buzz-cut man remained oblivious, finding it odd.
He glanced behind Jiang Cheng and asked, "Why are you alone? Where are the others?"
"The others, you'll find out soon enough."
Jiang Cheng let out a cold laugh and lunged at Wu Tian first.
"Quick, block him!"
Wu Tian reacted swiftly, grabbed the nearby buzz-cut man, shoved him forward, bent down, and sprinted toward the doorway.
By now, he was absolutely certain that Jiang Cheng was the one who killed Wei Bao and his party!
His guts felt like they were rotting.
It's all Qian Yun Kai's fault, that little brute; others wouldn't provoke, but he had to pick on this troublemaker.
Now it's done; he killed himself and had to drag himself along.
Jiang Cheng took a step back, created distance from the shoved buzz-cut man, struck him down with a staff, then turned and jabbed Wu Tian's leg with his left hand.
The latter let out a wail and collapsed to the ground.
Jiang Cheng, quick as an eye, delivered another blow to the back of the neck.
Wu Tian could no longer make a sound, lying motionless on the ground.
Jiang Cheng hurriedly shut the door and gulped breath after breath.
Looking at the two corpses on the floor, he felt an urge to kick them.
These damn dogs, the Wild Wolf Gang is finished—couldn't they just run away obediently? Instead they have to treat themselves like soft persimmons to squeeze.
Dead is dead, and it happened in our own house; if Grandma finds out that a stranger died in the house, she'll probably not dare to keep living there.
"When it's early morning and there are few people, push these two corpses to Chaotic Burial Hill with the tricycle. Oh right, my vehicle is still outside!"
Jiang Cheng's complexion changed; he hurried out and pushed the tricycle inside.
It seemed those two weren't interested in his vehicle; they just made a mess of the house.
"I don't know how many people around saw it; even if they didn't see, they must have heard some commotion."
Jiang Cheng felt a headache.
He had no good solution; he couldn't just kill everyone nearby just because of his suspicion, could he?
What he did should be clean enough; if anyone asks later, he'll say he just tossed those people away and knows nothing about what happened afterward.
It took almost an hour to tidy the room.
He removed the stove from the tricycle, found two bags, and put the corpses inside. Of course, before stuffing them, he searched the bodies: the buzz‑cut man had only a few hundred cash, and on Wu Tian he found a wallet containing a little over two thousand.
Jiang Cheng suspected they had left more money at home and didn't take it out.
"Forget it, we have a little over two thousand anyway. The important thing is to deal with these people; once the remaining members of the Wild Wolf Gang leave, we can bring Grandma and the others back."
Thinking of that, Jiang Cheng let out a sigh.
Actually, Grandma and the others could keep living in Outer City District, which would be good for them and for him, but the problem is they can't keep taking advantage of Sister Bai forever.
