Chapter 87

~49 min read 9,677 words

Xiao Longnv asked doubtfully, "What are you doing?"

Feng Yi said, "Someone says your senior sister's unforgettable Jade Maiden Heart Sutra can't beat others; don't you want to take a look?"

Li Mochou snorted lightly, "Who can't brag?"

Yang Guo, hearing this, immediately leapt out of the coffin, asking: "Feng Yi, did you discover any clues?"

Feng Yi said, "Whether it's a clue or not, we need to let your aunt judge; others seeing it might not understand either."

He relies on Xiao Longnv because he knows that even if he could find a map, he probably wouldn't understand how to go; rather than struggle to figure it out, it's better to let Xiao Longnv lead the way.

Yang Guo pleaded, "Auntie, come take a look."

Xiao Longnv felt doubtful, but she was no longer as strict with Yang Guo as before; she felt it best to go along with his wishes, gave a slight smile, and said, "All right!" then came out of the coffin.

Feng Yi also jumped out, and Li Mochou said, "Untie my acupoints."

Feng Yi casually struck out with a palm, and the palm wind blasted open her acupoints,

Xiao Longnv entered another coffin and said, "Yang Guo, bring the candlestand!"

"Oh!"

Xiao Longnv turned to the far end of the coffin, lay down, and examined the small characters.

She read them slowly one by one, going through them twice, before leaving the stone coffin; Yang Guo hurriedly asked, "Auntie, how is it? Any clues to get out?"

Xiao Longnv's expression changed; after a moment she sighed and said, "There are no clues to get out, but after our ancestral grandmother died, Wang Zhongyang came to the ancient tomb again!"

Li Mochou said, "Did he come to see our ancestral grandmother?"

Xiao Longnv hummed and said, "Our sect's Jade Maiden Heart Sutra has broken the Quanzhen Sect's martial arts; he said our ancestral grandmother broke the Quanzhen's rudimentary martial arts, but compared to the highest Quanzhen arts, what is the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra worth?"

Li Mochou sneered, "Despicable man, boasting shamelessly!"

Yang Guo also spat and said, "Anyway, our ancestral grandmother is dead; he can say whatever he likes."

Feng Yi let out a long sigh and said, "Wang Zhongyang just tosses off a sentence and refuses to admit defeat; no wonder the tomb's successors don't accept it!"

Xiao Longnv glanced at Feng Yi; in an instant he felt she had seen through all his secrets, he turned his head away and avoided meeting her gaze.

Yang Guo, Li Mochou, and Hong Lingbo all turned their eyes to Feng Yi, each feeling as if he had long known there was a secret in this coffin.

Xiao Longnv whispered, "He said he left a method to break the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra in another stone chamber; those with affinity will understand at a glance."

Yang Guo's curiosity stirred, and he said, "Auntie, let's go take a look."

Xiao Longnv began to inspect the chamber, full of doubts, she turned and sat on a stone bench, hesitating; Feng Yi, Li Mochou, and Hong Lingbo all watched her.

Soon Xiao Longnv made up her mind, rose, looked toward Feng Yi, and said, "Come with me; I have something to say to you."

Before Feng Yi could speak, Li Mochou said, "Junior sister, what is there that cannot be said here?"

Yang Guo also said, "Yes, auntie..."

Xiao Longnv lowered her gaze and coldly said, "I don't want you, senior sister, to hear this—can you not?"

"All right, Li Mochou." Feng Yi, thinking carefully, knew Xiao Longnv feared the martial arts manual would leak to Li Mochou, and said, "Don't you know your own reputation in the martial world?"

Xiao Longnv had already walked toward the door, and Feng Yi followed.

The two went one after another to another stone chamber; Xiao Longnv lit a candle and said, "Exactly how to get to that stone chamber, only I know."

Feng Yi nodded and said, "I understand."

Feng Yi certainly knew how to get to the secret chamber; perhaps he knew, but how to exit the ancient tomb—only someone familiar with the terrain and mechanisms like Xiao Longnv understood, perhaps Li Mochou too; but for himself, it was certainly not something a mere map could make clear.

Xiao Longnv added, "You seem to have long known there was a secret in the coffin!"

Feng Yi, having just seen the expressions of those few, realized he could leave no trace; these people were not fools, they must have noticed something, so he nodded and said, "I heard it from someone."

Xiao Longnv asked, "Who did you hear it from?"

Feng Yi shook his head and said, "That— it's really hard to put into words."

Xiao Longnv snorted; that meant if you don't speak, I won't go.

Feng Yi gave a dry laugh and said, "I want to say I happened to meet an old Mr. Jin Yong by chance, who told me about the past of Wang Zhongyang and Lin Chaoying; do you believe it?"

Xiao Longnv was feeling puzzled when Feng Yi continued, "Actually, Master Zhongyang is a very proud and aloof person; in ancient times to the present, he submits to no one. But he truly submitted to your ancestral grandmother."

After your ancestral grandmother's death, he shed tears in mourning; in his later years he also felt regret, so he left some matters in his martial arts manuals, such as boasting about himself being Confucian, Daoist, Buddhist...

Xiao Longnv said, "Wang Zhongyang was merely a scholar who later took up martial arts, founded the Quanzhen Sect, and also advocated the union of Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism; that statement is not mere boasting."

Feng Yi had originally said it offhand, but someone popularized it; he nodded and said, "By a fortunate coincidence I obtained an internal art, thus I learned of his affairs with your ancestral grandmother, and also know that the ancient tomb holds his method to break the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra; I am quite moved."

Whether his words were true or false, Xiao Longnv could not tell; even if she did not believe them, involving private internal arts made it inconvenient to press further.

The two fell silent for a while, then Xiao Longnv suddenly said, "That I am not dead is thanks to you saving my life; I ought to repay you."

Feng Yi said, "Saying that is too polite. I already said then that I came with an ulterior motive; saving you was out of self-interest."

Xiao Longnv nodded: "I know, so you deliberately did not rescue me early, letting me despair and set down the Dragon-Slaying Stone, so you could conveniently plot to obtain the martial arts secret."

Feng Yi laughed, "Without my intervention, how could you have broken your oath and come out?"

Upon hearing this, Xiao Longnv felt a voice in her heart saying, "He's right; without him, how would you know Yang Guo's feelings."

"And you too surely wish to leave the tomb and have a look."

After a silence, Xiao Longnv suddenly asked, "What exactly is your relationship with my senior sister? You must tell me the truth."

Feng Yi hesitated slightly; seeing her solemn expression, it was as if she were saying, "If you spout nonsense, I won't let you leave."

Feng Yi said solemnly, "I want the Five Poisons Secret Manual in her hand; therefore I injured her, and she insists on coming to the ancient tomb once before she will give it to me, so I came!"

Xiao Longnv frowned slightly and said, "My senior sister does evil everywhere; while our master was alive, the head of the Quanzhen Sect told my master many times that if she does not repent, he would have me purge the sect; what do you want her poison sect's secret manual for?"

Feng Yi said proudly, "Do you think, with my martial arts, I would need poison just to contend for supremacy in the martial world? Naturally I would use it against the Mongols!"

"The Mongols?"

Xiao Longnv was quite puzzled.

Feng Yi said, "This is a matter of national survival; you may not understand it, but you cannot stop it."

Xiao Longnv gave a wry smile and said, "But my senior sister's martial arts are already high; if she were to learn Wang Zhongyang's arts, how could I restrain her? To go against my master's wishes—how could I justify that?"

Feng Yi sighed deeply and said, "Martial arts are essentially weapons; they can kill or save lives, but once ordinary people gain great power, few remain virtuous, so the masters fear passing on divine arts to unworthy people and would rather let them be lost."

However, people's hearts change easily; your master did not know the present Li Mochou when he initially accepted her as a disciple. Who can say she will not become a heroine who serves the nation and ethnicity in the future?

But I can promise you this: once we leave, if she ever does evil again, I will personally take her life, so as not to bring shame upon your Ancient Tomb Sect.

Xiao Longnv gave a faint smile, said nothing more, turned and left. Feng Yi knew this hurdle was passed.

The two soon reached the coffin chamber; Yang Guo grabbed Xiao Longnv's hand and anxiously called, "Auntie!"

Li Mochou said, "Junior sister, are you not at ease with me? That's why you give him pointers face to face?"

"Yes!" Xiao Longnv answered succinctly.

Li Mochou's expression changed; before she could speak, Xiao Longnv said, "Guo'er, go into that coffin—Wang Zhongyang said the stone chamber lies beneath this one. I have lived here my whole life, yet I never knew there was still such a stone chamber."

Yang Guo was overjoyed and said, "Ah, I know—that's the door to the stone chamber!" He immediately leapt into the coffin, felt around, and indeed found a depression that could fit a hand; he gripped it tightly and lifted upward, but it did not budge at all.

Xiao Longnv said, "First turn it left, then lift upward."

Yang Guo followed her instructions, turned and then lifted; only a crack was heard, the stone slab at the coffin's bottom sprang up readily, and he exclaimed delightedly, "It works!"

Xiao Longnv said, "Don't rush; wait until the foul air in the cavern is expelled before entering."

Li Mochou's eyes shifted, she drew near Feng Yi, took hold of his sleeve, and chuckled, "Feng Yi, what did you say to my junior sister?"

Seeing her feigned intimacy, Feng Yi understood she feared Xiao Longnv would harm her, and he sighed softly, "Don't ask; it's simply because you act contrary to reason and virtue!"

Li Mochou replied half-annoyed, half-smiling, "This ancient tomb is full of mechanisms; following her and running about everywhere has made me and Lingbo worry terribly."

Yang Guo, by nature restless, had wanted to hurry down into the tomb chamber to look, but seeing Li Mochou's demeanor, he instead found it interesting to watch.

Xiao Longnv, however, drew her knees up and sat to one side.

Feng Yi well knew Li Mochou could not bear to see lovers; her deliberately ambiguous words now were meant to make Hong Lingbo suspicious, so she could sit and watch the spectacle. Seeing Hong Lingbo's beautiful eyes glare at him, he sensed deep resentment.

Feng Yi thought to himself, "She clearly knows what kind of person Li Mochou is, yet she can still be deceived—truly admirable!"

Feng Yi pushed Li Mochou aside and said, "It's a pity your junior sister is not you; I could never believe she would strike at her benefactor who saved her life."

Li Mochou felt as if her heart had been sliced by a knife, extremely distressed, for she caught the implied meaning—that she would strike at her benefactor who saved her life. Her nose soured and her eyes heated; she rubbed them, barely holding back tears.

While speaking, Feng Yi also gave Hong Lingbo a fierce glare, silently cursing her stupidity—there are plenty of good girls in the world, yet she manages to be jealous even of her.

Hong Lingbo saw Feng Yi glaring at her and became furious, thinking, "He has no shame; having me, he still exchanges flirtatious glances with her—hmph, can't I glare back at him?"

She also glared at Feng Yi; their eyes locked, but Hong Lingbo's nameless anger toward her beloved could not last long.

After only a few breaths of stalemate, affection welled up unbidden; she couldn't help spitting and silently cursing herself as worthless.

This scene provoked Yang Guo to burst into loud laughter; even Xiao Longnv glanced over, Hong Lingbo hastily composed her expression, while Li Mochou merely let out a soft hum.

Suddenly Xiao Longnv said, "Let's go!"

She slowly rose, took a candlestand, walked in from the base of the stone coffin; the others hurriedly followed. Below was a row of stone steps; at their end lay a short passage, which turned a corner, and indeed there was another stone chamber.

The chamber held nothing special; Feng Yi looked up and saw the ceiling densely covered with written characters and symbols, the far right bearing four large characters: "Nine Yin True Classic".

Yang Guo and Xiao Longnv also lifted their heads almost simultaneously; Li Mochou and Hong Lingbo followed their gaze upward.

Yang Guo and Xiao Longnv did not know what the Nine Yin True Classic contained—it is actually the highest realm of martial arts—while Li Mochou, having wandered the jianghu for years, was aware of its fame; yet after looking for a while, they all found it profoundly mysterious and hard to comprehend.

Feng Yi immediately called up the system and saw on the martial arts panel a new prompt: "【Wang Zhongyang's Inscriptions: Nine Yin True Classic (Fragment)】". He was not in a hurry to cultivate it, instead searching for a passage route.

He then saw a diagram drawn in the southwest corner of the ceiling, seemingly unrelated to martial arts, more like a map; he pointed casually and said, "Miss Long, look quickly at that!"

Xiao Longnv followed his finger and glanced; in an instant her whole body stiffened as if frozen, and she remained motionless.

Yang Guo grew fearful, tugged at her sleeve, and asked, "Auntie, what's wrong?"

Xiao Longnv whispered, "That picture depicts the secret passage out of the tomb." Being thoroughly familiar with the tomb's geography, she grasped its meaning at a glance.

As for Feng Yi, Yang Guo, and the others seeing it, they were completely in the dark.

Yang Guo hopped up and said, "Auntie, we can get out now!"

Li Mochou roughly understood the tomb's layout, but she and Hong Lingbo were silently memorizing Wang Zhongyang's inscriptions; even if they could not comprehend them at once, they had to rote‑learn them.

Xiao Longnv smiled sweetly at Yang Guo and said, "I have never feared death before; after all, I will spend my whole life in this tomb, so what difference does it make whether I die early or late? But you treat me so well that I wish to spend some happy days with you and go outside to see. Guo'er, I am both afraid and delighted."

Feng Yi laughed and said, "Miss Long, there's no need to be afraid; besides, we'll trouble you to lead the way for us, so we can all breathe some fresh air."

Xiao Longnv said, "Good!"

Yet Li Mochou said, "Anyway, we've found the passage; let's stay another two days."

Xiao Longnv also said, "Everyone must master the breath‑holding secret so we can swim."

Having merely glanced at the map, she knew what the exit required. Though each person had a foundation in internal energy, the breath‑holding technique would be learned quickly with practice, yet the martial arts inscribed on the tomb ceiling were truly numerous: "Great Subduing Demon Fist", "Muscle/Tendon Changing and Bone Forging Chapter", "Acupoint Unblocking Secret", "Breath‑holding Secret", and "Soul Transfer Great Art", etc. Since they felt no hostility at the moment, they were naturally reluctant to leave just yet.

With Feng Yi's ability, this also truly enriched his martial arts reserves.

The Jade Maiden Heart Sutra created by Lin Chaoying, a method to break Wang Zhongyang's martial arts, still originated from her original martial arts.

Therefore the essentials of the Heart Sutra were inscribed as symbolic diagrams on the ceiling of a chamber in the ancient tomb; Lin Chaoying additionally gave oral explanations detailing the practice and key points of the Heart Sutra martial arts.

This Heart Sutra, progressing from shallow to profound, is divided into ten chapters. Xiao Longnv's master did not transmit it to his chief disciple Li Mochou, but passed it on to his junior disciple Xiao Longnv.

Li Mochou thought there existed a written copy of the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra, unaware that her grandmaster and master had transmitted it only orally, with no written record.

However, when Wang Zhongyang learned that Lin Chaoying had died in the Tomb of the Living Dead, he recalled her lifelong infatuation with him—a kindness not trivial; now that man and ghost were sundered, his heartache was profound. He therefore sneaked into the tomb via the secret passage, avoided her maid disciples, gazed long upon the deceased's remains of his old jianghu companion, suppressed his sobs and wept bitterly, after which he surveyed the stone tomb he had once built.

He saw the portrait Lin Chaoying had painted of him standing with his back to her, and also saw her inscriptions on the stone chamber's ceiling. Given Wang Zhongyang's martial prowess, he naturally needed no oral explanation from Lin Chaoying to grasp the true meaning.

Seeing that the martial arts described in the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra were indeed the nemesis of Quanzhen Sect arts, his face turned ashen and he withdrew immediately.

He alone retreated to the deep mountains, built a thatched hut, and for three straight years never left the mountains, painstakingly studying how to counter the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra; although he achieved minor successes, he could never assemble a complete system encompassing internal and external, integrated and comprehensive martial arts.

Disheartened, Wang Zhongyang admired Lin Chaoying's intelligence and talent all the more, humbly yielded to her, and ceased further research.

More than ten years later, at the Mount Hua Sword Summit, he seized the marvelous martial arts manual Nine Yin True Classic. Wang Zhongyang resolved not to practice its techniques, but driven by curiosity he could not help browsing through it once.

His martial arts were then the best in the world; after perusing the myriad profound mysteries of the Nine Yin True Classic, he pondered for over ten days and suddenly grasped it entirely. Knowing that mastering the essentials of the Nine Yin True Classic made breaking the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra's martial arts effortless.

Thereupon he laughed aloud to the heavens, returned to the Tomb of the Living Dead, and inscribed the essentials of the True Classic on the ceiling of the tomb's most concealed underground stone chamber, also indicating point by point how to overcome the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra.

He surveyed the tomb's scene and guessed that those few empty coffins would someday be used by Lin Chaoying's disciples; they would mostly enter the coffins on their own when dying, and then they could learn that the founder of the Quanzhen Sect was never inferior to anyone in his lifetime.

Thus he inscribed on the lid of an empty coffin the sixteen characters: "Jade Maiden Heart Sutra, to overcome Quanzhen, Wang Zhongyang's lifetime, not inferior to anyone," so that Lin Chaoying's descendants, at their moment of death, might learn that the martial arts of the founder of the Quanzhen Sect truly could not be countered by the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra.

This is merely Wang Zhongyang's fleeting competitive thought, not an intentional leak of the Nine Yin True Classic to the world; he expected that by the time Lin Chaoying's disciples saw the Nine Yin True Classic, they would already be on their last breath, only able to take this secret underground.

He himself thought the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra was Lin Chaoying's own creation, while he merely relied on predecessors' writings; compared to hers, he was indeed inferior, so thereafter he deeply humbled himself, often admonishing his disciples to practice tolerance and self-restraint, to keep a humble and concealed attitude.

"Jade Maiden Heart Sutra, to surpass the Quanzhen Sect, Wang Zhongyang all his life was not inferior to anyone; these two contemporary paragons, why bother? It's truly a pity."

Feng Yi gazed at Wang Zhongyang's inscriptions, unable to restrain a long sigh, feeling deep regret.

Feng Yi personally does not believe in love, yet he does not deny all love in the world.

After all, there is truth in the saying that genuine feelings exist in the world; how could he not understand? That love of "you die, I follow"—now seeing Yang Guo and Xiao Longnv exemplifies it, and though he need not look at Guo Jing and Huang Rong, he knows theirs is the same.

But Feng Yi has never met someone for whom he would be willing to compromise, to give everything, to sacrifice everything, nor has anyone done that for him; thus his attitude toward love stems mostly from carnal desire, lacking soulful communion. Wang Zhongyang and Lin Chaoying, however, are different—Wang's heart was moved by Lin Chaoying, and he had once compromised.

He could trek a thousand li for Lin Chaoying, journey to the far north, extract cold jade from beneath hundreds of zhang of solid ice and fashion a cold jade bed—what great courage and perseverance that would require!

He could also leave the ancient tomb for Lin Chaoying, or, for a single word from her, renounce the world to become a Daoist—although this was not Lin Chaoying's original intention.

Yet Wang Zhongyang's ability to respect her wishes is itself rare and precious.

If it were Feng Yi, he estimates he could not accomplish any of these.

At the very least, he cannot do so now.

Li Mochou saw Feng Yi's great lament, yet she was not convinced, coldly laughing: "Wang Zhongyang never forgets his loss to my master; on his deathbed he left behind a doctrine still aimed at restraining her! Such competitiveness—what kind of man is that, what's there to pity?"

Yang Guo and the others also largely agreed.

Feng Yi lightly said: "In a situation where even Yue Wumu failed, a mere scholar can abandon literature for arms, vowing to recover the Central Plains—how could he not be competitive?"

Everyone was stunned.

Feng Yi looked around, then said: "Since your ancestral grandmother likes this person, you ought to understand him. If your understanding is insufficient, it can also be said that your affinity is lacking—don't blame anyone!"

But you should not use this to comment on him! Just say this: earlier Yang Guo asked Longnü to do something, she could comply with the other party, but your ancestral grandmother could not.

Moreover, without True Person Wang's competitive spirit, we would both be trapped and unable to escape; what right do you have to look down on him?

Li Mochou and Xiao Longnv, as inheritors of the ancient tomb, still needed Wang Zhongyang's inscriptions to save their lives and escape; hearing this, they could not help but lose their spirit, secretly feeling ashamed, lowering their heads and remaining silent.

Li Mochou thought of her ancestral grandmother's tragic, miserable life, and could not help but empathize, her eyes reddening.

Seeing the expressions of the few, Feng Yi also felt his words had been too harsh, but he was by nature eccentric—sometimes calm and gentle, sometimes cruel and violent, especially as he killed more, this trait became more pronounced,

Having spoken, he saw no point in taking it back, and said: "These martial arts are vast and profound; to achieve anything, at least three to five years are needed. We might as well stay a few days, wait until you have mastered the arts herein, then we shall leave."

Feng Yi possesses a system; with the martial arts method, he just needs to allocate points, and can exit the tomb at any time.

These few, however, had to rely on memorization; they immediately nodded in agreement, recited Wang Zhongyang's inscriptions for several days, memorized them without error, and only then decided to leave the tomb.

However, the inscriptions of Wang Zhongyang in the tomb are merely a countermeasure to the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra, only a small part of the Nine Yin True Classic; the most important Sanskrit transliteration's general principle secret is even more unknown, so what they have learned falls far short of Guo Jing and Huang Rong, and aside from Feng Yi, the others are completely unaware of it.

That day, after finishing their practice, Xiao Longnv took Yang Guo's hand and walked out of the stone chamber; the others followed closely, not daring to stray a step, feeling Xiao Longnv glide like a dragon and snake—sometimes fast, sometimes slow, winding and twisting through the tomb passages; the ground grew gradually damp, they knew they had already left the ancient tomb, and in the dim light they could see branching paths everywhere.

Feng Yi secretly rejoiced, thinking that if he had to find the way himself, it would take a monkey's year and horse's month to get out. After walking a while, the path became extraordinarily steep, actually a straight descent; if not for the high martial arts of all five, they would have already slipped and fallen.

After descending about half an hour, the road gradually leveled, but the moisture grew heavier; later they heard the sound of trickling water, water on the path rose to their ankles, then higher, up to legs and abdomen, gradually reaching chest level; the few held their breath and dove into the water.

In those days, Wang Zhongyang built the stone tomb's underground storage beside a small stream on the mountain, diverting a small portion of the stream's water into the tomb; the tomb's residents used the stream water for drinking and cooking, and for washing and cleaning, all relied on this stream.

The stream originates from high mountains, flows down; after use in the tomb, it pauses briefly, then flows away and becomes clear again.

At this moment, Xiao Longnv guided Yang Guo, Feng Yi, Li Mochou, and others through this stream channel to exit behind the tomb, requiring them to dive into the underground current to reach level ground.

After the stream merged into the underground current, it joined with other streams, increasing flow and depth, the water roaring; although it was an underground current, its momentum was still astonishing. Li Mochou and Hong Lingbo, though able to hold their breath, did not know how to swim; struck by the current, they could not keep their footing and were lifted bodily.

Feng Yi's inner strength was deep, and he could swim; with one hand he grabbed one person's arm—Li Mochou, though her martial arts were superb, had nothing to rely on in the water, and at this moment could not help but panic, directly using her other hand to tightly clutch Feng Yi's waist; Hong Lingbo did the same.

Even though Feng Yi's inner strength was formidable, he suddenly felt strained; yet he felt helpless, afraid that if he broke free he would choke on water, so he remained being held by the two.

The five dragged and pulled in the water for about the time of a meal; although they all held their breath as prescribed, they still felt extremely suffocated, needing to surface occasionally for a few breaths, gradually unable to endure.

Aside from Feng Yi, the four each swallowed a bellyful of water; fortunately the water's force gradually eased and the terrain rose, so they soon found an opening and surfaced.

After walking the length of an incense stick, the view grew brighter ahead, and they finally emerged from a mountain cave.

Only feeling a gentle cool breeze blowing on them, not at all cold; this escape was heart‑pounding, surpassing a duel with masters. Yang Guo, Xiao Longnv, and the others were indeed utterly exhausted, and Feng Yi, with such inner strength, was also overcome by fatigue, leaning against a round stone, sitting in meditation to cultivate his qi.

After a while, the east grew pale, dawn broke; Feng Yi exhaled deeply, finally opened his eyes, saw the four still meditating, and walked out on his own.

All around stood dense ancient trees, the looming mountains visible, stretching east‑west, winding north‑south; when sunlight struck, it was truly a flow of shimmering colors.

Feng Yi only felt his chest and mind open: "Such is the scenery of Zhongnan Mountain—truly deserving of its reputation as a blessed cavern‑land! If I could hide away here with my beloved, it would also be a joy of life—alas, alas!"

As he leisurely enjoyed the breeze and scenery, filled with myriad emotions, he suddenly heard a faint voice say: "What are your plans for the next step?"

The voice was charming and familiar; Feng Yi turned his head in response, and saw Li Mochou gazing at him silently. In the morning light, her plain countenance appeared peerlessly gorgeous, her water‑cut eyes crystal clear and piercing, utterly captivating.

Her inner strength was profound, far surpassing that of Xiao Longnv, Yang Guo, Hong Lingbo, and the others, and she recovered more quickly.

Feng Yi's feelings toward this woman are extremely complex.

Although he knows she has committed countless evils, he also feels she has wasted the body heaven gave her and his own abilities, making her both hateful and pitiable.

Given Feng Yi's nature, if not for Li Mochou's blood debts, he would have acted on her looks alone long ago, making her his woman.

Alas, that affinity is now gone! Feng Yi stared blankly at her, his heart surging with thoughts; Li Mochou likewise gazed at him, her heart a tangle of myriad feelings, wanting both to weep and to laugh, not knowing how to treat this man.

Seeing her eyes flash with an unusual hue, Feng Yi felt it was not good, clasped his hands and smiled: "Lady Li, my intention is simply to hope you will not grudge imparting the Five Poisons Secret Transmission."

Li Mochou's face changed, she snapped angrily: "Feng Yi, I can see through you—your desire for the Five Poisons Secret Transmission is false; your true aim is the Nine Yin True Classic, isn't it?"

Feng Yi smiled: "Exactly!"

Having achieved his purpose, he did not conceal it; turning his gaze, he saw Yang Guo and Xiao Longnv also walking out of the cave together.

Yet seeing Xiao Longnv standing in the sunlight, she grew ever more beautiful, like a fairy fallen to dust; her plain attire made her whole body shine with dazzling radiance, making one dare not stare directly.

Li Mochou spat: "You brat, what wicked scheme are you hatching now?"

Feng Yi laughed: "I'm thinking you have no robe and bowl to pass on—could it be that your master thinks you lack the junior sister's looks?"

Li Mochou's face turned white then red, she stared fixedly at Feng Yi; the most cutting thing is always the truth.

Li Mochou prided herself on her beauty, yet she dared not claim she was more beautiful than her junior sister; although her master's transmission of the robe and bowl has nothing to do with looks, this remark left her unable to rebut.

But seeing Feng Yi still grinning cheekily, Li Mochou had to say: "The Five Poisons Secret Transmission—I won't give it to you!"

Feng Yi laughed: "You are honest, I am honest, you are not honest…" He stopped speaking and laughed.

Li Mochou grasped his implication, seeing that he was indifferent to everything, she forced herself to abandon her improper thoughts and gave a snort.

Translation: Li Mochou understood his implied meaning, thinking this person was indifferent to everything, she had no choice but to suppress her evil thoughts and let out a snort.

We need to keep it concise but faithful. Use Li Mochou (given). "他" refers to Feng Yi? Actually earlier context: Feng Yi speaking. So "他" is Feng Yi. We'll translate as "he". Keep same meaning.

Thus: Li Mochou understood his implied meaning, thinking this person was indifferent to everything, she had no choice but to suppress her evil thoughts and let out a snort.

Make sure it's one line.

Xiao Longnv observed coldly from the side, utterly amazed.

Translation: Xiao Longnv watched coldly from the side, her heart greatly astonished.

Xiao Longnv watched coldly from the side, her heart greatly astonished.

She knew her senior sister was highly skilled, crafty and intelligent, proud and obstinate; yet encountering Feng Yi left her helpless.

Translation: She knew this senior martial sister possessed superb martial arts, was cunning and resourceful, and had a proud and stubborn nature, yet who would have thought that upon meeting Feng Yi, she would be utterly helpless.

We need to use Feng Yi. So: She knew this senior martial sister possessed superb martial arts, was cunning and resourceful, and had a proud and stubborn nature, yet who would have thought that upon meeting Feng Yi, she would be utterly helpless.

It made her realize her perception of her senior sister was mistaken.

Translation: This made her feel that her understanding of the senior martial sister was somewhat off.

Hehe...

Translation: "Hehe..."

We need to keep quotes? Probably just translate as "Hehe..." Keep as is.

Xiao Longnv glanced over and saw Yang Guo trying to hide a smile; she shot him a look, and he quickly sobered up, feigning seriousness.

Translation: Xiao Longnv glanced over and suddenly saw Yang Guo secretly laughing; she couldn't help but glare at him, and Yang Guo hastily wiped off his smile, putting on a solemn façade.

We need to use Yang Guo (given). So: Xiao Longnv glanced over and suddenly saw Yang Guo secretly laughing; she couldn't help but glare at him, and Yang Guo hastily wiped off his smile, putting on a solemn façade.

He loved watching Li Mochou get humiliated.

Translation: He most liked to see Li Mochou suffer a setback.

"He" refers to Yang Guo? Actually earlier: Yang Guo likes seeing Li Mochou embarrassed. So: He most liked to see Li Mochou suffer a setback.

At that moment, Hong Lingbo finished her breathing exercises and stepped out as well.

Translation: At this moment, Hong Lingbo finished her cultivation and walked out as well.

We need to use Hong Lingbo (not in glossary but we will add). So: At this moment, Hong Lingbo finished her cultivation and walked out as well.

Feng Yi told Yang Guo and Xiao Longnv, "Our meeting has been most enlightening, but as all gatherings must disperse, let us part here and now."

Translation: Feng Yi said to Yang Guo and Xiao Longnv, "This meeting has benefited me greatly, but under heaven there is no feast that does not end; here and now, let us part."

We need to keep quotes. So: Feng Yi said to Yang Guo and Xiao Longnv, "This meeting has benefited me greatly, but under heaven there is no feast that does not end; here and now, let us part."

Yang Guo said wistfully, "Feng Brother, where are you going? Are you off to roam the jianghu?"

Translation: Yang Guo felt reluctant and said, "Feng Brother, where are you headed? Venturing into the jianghu?"

Yang Guo felt reluctant and said, "Feng Brother, where are you headed? Venturing into the jianghu?"

Feng Yi said, "I'll first go down the mountain to recover from my injuries; once healed, whether I'll take to the jianghu is uncertain, because these days the jianghu holds no interest—those with ambition are all fighting the Mongols, and the rest are not worth a sneer."

Translation: Feng Yi said, "I will first go down the mountain to nurse my wounds; after they heal, whether I will venture into the jianghu remains unknown, for nowadays the jianghu is meaningless—those with ambition are all fighting the Mongols, while the mediocre lot are not worth a smirk."

"Fighting the Mongols!" Xiao Longnv, Li Mochou, and Hong Lingbo had long known his thoughts, but Yang Guo was hearing it for the first time.

Yang Guo pondered, then bowed and said, "All right; if we meet again someday, we'll share a drink and catch up."

Xiao Longnv told Li Mochou, "Senior sister, our master has always wished you would repent; please take care of yourself."

Li Mochou stopped in her tracks, silently reflecting on the countless deaths and injuries she had caused over the years, then sighed, "Junior sister, remember this: if one day your husband's demeanor toward you suddenly shifts—though he once treated you with deep affection, loving you to the point of death—"

Li Mochou's steps halted involuntarily; she silently reflected, over these many years countless have died or been injured at her hands, she sighed: "Junior sister, you must remember, if one day your man's attitude toward you suddenly changes—formerly deeply affectionate, loving you to death—"

Soon Feng Yi came over, leading Hong Lingbo.

Feng Yi mused, "You and I have become acquainted; I have two things to say. First, you and Miss Long shouldn't stay here long."

Feng Yi pondered and said, "We have become acquainted; I have two matters to mention: first, you and Miss Long should not linger long in this place"

Yang Guo raised his face, a hint of arrogance in his expression, and said, "I've mastered a martial art—do I fear the Quanzhen Sect? No, I insist on staying here! As for the rule forbidding master and disciple from becoming husband and wife, who established it? I intend for her to be both my master and my wife."

Feng Yi, aware of Yang Guo's disposition, looked off into the distance and said quietly, "Since you like Miss Long, you should think of her too."

"You're only thinking of your own gratification, but what about her? If she can't tolerate the gossip and idle talk, or doesn't want you to bear this pressure, becomes upset, runs away, and meets danger, you'll regret it bitterly and she'll suffer greatly—this is not how a lover should act."

But he isn't!

In the original tale, when Yang Guo met Hong Qigong and was asked who his master was, he thought of Xiao Longnv as his future wife rather than his master, so he said he had none.

Translation: In the original storyline, when Yang Guo met Hong Qigong, people asked him who his master was; Yang Guo could think of Xiao Longnv as his future wife, not his master, so he said he had no master.

At the Heroes' Gathering, he first admired Hong Qigong's respected bearing; when Huo Du and others caused trouble, he stepped forward and declared Xiao Longnv his master.

Translation: As a result, at the Heroes' Assembly, he first admired Hong Qigong's respected aura, then encountered Huodu and others causing trouble, and subsequently stepped forward proclaiming Xiao Longnv to be his master.

He stole the limelight, winning everyone's admiration, but later, because of the line "Why shouldn't I marry my master?", the gathering ended in discord, leading to Xiao Longnv fleeing and getting hurt, being taken advantage of by Gongsun Zhi, and his own poisoning and severed arm.

Translation: He had shown off his talents, earning everyone's admiration; later, because of the words "On what grounds should I not be allowed to marry my master as wife?" he caused a dispersal, leading to Xiao Longnv fleeing, getting injured, being picked up by Gongsun Zhi, and his own tragedy of being poisoned and losing an arm.

After all those trials, Yang Guo finally realized; when he met Xiao Longnv he started calling her 'Long'er', no longer 'aunt', and stopped questioning why he couldn't marry his master.

Translation: After enduring this series of hardships, Yang Guo finally recognized this point; upon meeting Xiao Longnv he began calling her Long'er, no longer called her Aunt, and ceased asking why he could not marry his master.

Yang Guo ought to, as when facing Hong Qigong, say he has no master—since he never called Xiao Longnv 'master'—and many tragedies could be avoided.

Translation: Yang Guo should, as when facing Hong Qigong, say he has no master; anyway he never called Xiao Longnv "master," and many tragedies would not have occurred.

Feng Yi had gained a big advantage; before leaving he wanted to help him, but whether he listens or not is up to him—this is doing one's best.

Feng Yi always seeks only peace of mind; at present the matter is Hong Lingbo, and he needs to have a frank talk with her.

Feng Yi, Li Mochou, and Hong Lingbo left the mountain on foot; at the town inn each fetched their mount—Li Mochou took her horse, while Feng Yi and Hong Lingbo rode their donkeys.

Occasionally they passed through villages where many rooms stood empty, walls had collapsed, houses lay in ruins—a picture of utter devastation.

Translation: Occasionally passing through villages, many rooms were empty, walls collapsed, houses ruined—a scene of utter desolation.

The Mongols have toppled the Jin; now the northern Central Plains are riddled with devastation. Feng Yi sighed, realizing that this devastation will soon sweep over the prosperous lands of Jiangnan.

Translation: The Mongols had destroyed the Jin; at this time the northern Central Plains were truly riddled with wounds. Feng Yi sighed, knowing this situation would soon sweep over the prosperous lands of Jiangnan.

The three turned onto a wide road; after an unknown distance they suddenly heard the clatter of hooves and wagon wheels from a side path ahead, where they saw dozens of Mongol soldiers armed with spears and broadswords escorting several prisoner wagons.

Translation: The three turned onto a broad road; after walking an unknown distance, suddenly they heard the sound of horse hooves and cart wheels from a fork ahead—only to see dozens of Mongol soldiers wielding spears and broadswords, escorting several prison wagons.

Each prisoner cart held Han men and women, young and old, their faces smeared with blood; behind them rode several bearded Mongol officers on horseback.

Translation: Each prison wagon held some Han people with faces smeared in blood—men, women, old and young—while a few bearded Mongol officers followed on horseback behind.

A few junior soldiers spotted the three, immediately brandished their sabers, spurred their horses, and shouted as they charged at the trio.

Translation: A few junior soldiers spotted the three, immediately brandished their sabers, shouted while riding horses, and charged at the three.

Feng Yi knew that the Mongols nowadays regard themselves as naturally superior to Han Chinese, and upon seeing women they cannot help but come—especially beautiful women.

Translation: Feng Yi knew that the Mongols nowadays considered themselves inherently superior to Han people; seeing women, they could not help but come—especially beautiful women.

Moreover, after the Mongols ruled the Central Plains, that was the darkest era for the Han people; who knows how many privileged decrees all embodied the meaning of Han lowliness and Mongol nobility, and Feng Yi felt utter hatred and loathing. At once he felt his waist, gave a shake in the wind, and already held a blood blade in his hand; pointing the blade, he sang loudly: "Lying stiff in a desolate village, I do not lament myself..."

He struck with the crutch, his body fell from the donkey's back, swift as a bird escaping a cage, blood shadows crisscrossing; these four soldiers were directly hacked into several pieces.

I still think of defending the country at LunTai!

Reciting this poem by Lu You, Feng Yi, with each character he uttered, his blood blade reaped a life; his movement was slippery like a fish lurking in the deep, the Mongol soldiers' swords and spears could not reach his upper body before they were slain.

The blood blade technique was notorious for its cruelty; Feng Yi showed no mercy toward the Mongols, his strikes were vicious and unmatched, every strike drew blood and never missed; in an instant only miserable cries rang out, severed limbs and broken arms flew like scattered leaves, fresh blood poured down like rain.

Late at night, lying awake to hear the wind and rain, iron horses and icy rivers enter my dreams.

After Feng Yi finished reciting that poem, dozens of Mongol soldiers had already been slaughtered by him, the prison cart was also hacked to pieces, and the people inside also jumped out.

Feng Yi returned to the donkey's back, with a soft "pfft", as if he had done something trivial, and continued riding the donkey on his way.

These imprisoned people had certainly never seen such a thing; even Li Mochou, veteran of the jianghu, seeing him kill dozens in the blink of an eye without changing expression, also felt a chill.

Hong Lingbo, too, was seeing Feng Yi's such brutal and cruel side for the first time; she suddenly felt that her master, this demonic villain, seemed like a good person in comparison.

Li Mochou and Hong Lingbo exchanged a glance and followed after him. Li Mochou steadied herself and asked, "You really must oppose the Mongols?"

"Oppose them?" Feng Yi glanced at her sideways and said lightly, "Just treat it as opposing them; if possible, I am willing to exterminate them completely."
