Chapter 48: Test
Nie Huaishang, upon hearing Ma Shichang’s praise, humbly replied:
“Mr. Ma, you flatter me too much.”
Ma Qitong, hearing this, gently nudged Nie Huaishang and pouted: “Why call him ‘Mr. Ma’ now?”
Nie Huaishang immediately looked embarrassed: “Look at me, so slow on the uptake—Father, please forgive me.”
Ma Shichang burst into hearty laughter: “Fine, in a few days, I’ll hold your wedding.”
The three of them exchanged warm words, but aside from Ma Qitong, all three harbored hidden agendas.
After Ma Shichang watched the two leave, Ma Yunfei, standing beside him, asked with a serious expression:
“Father, what do you think of this man? Can we trust him?”
Ma Shichang turned to Ma Yunfei and sighed: “Don’t laugh at me, son—I can’t read this man at all.”
“But even though I can’t read him, we must see with our own eyes that his hands are stained with police blood.”
Hearing this, Ma Yunfei assured Ma Shichang: “Understood, Father. Didn’t we capture some police informants recently? Let him deal with them himself.”
On the other side, Nie Huaishang had placated Ma Qitong—he wasn’t trying to save his first time for anyone; he was merely interested in Zhang Chu’an’s Thunder Art.
Once he lost his virginity, he could no longer learn it, so for the sake of the Thunder Art, he had to endure.
Nie Huaishang stared grimly out the window. He knew that despite his cheerful chat with the Ma father and son, neither of them truly trusted him.
Their next round of tests would come soon—and that test would be to send him, the mole, to kill a police officer.
Thinking of this, he realized he needed to prepare—like having Zhang Chu’an urgently retrieve the corpse for treatment.
Nie Huaishang: “Are you all there? I have an urgent matter to tell you.”
Guo Jing: “We’re here. What’s up?”
Nie Huaishang: “I’ve already passed their first test. The second one is coming soon.”
Zhang Chu’an: “You mean the test where they force you to get police blood on your hands?”
Nie Huaishang: “Exactly. I think it’ll happen tonight. I need you to perform emergency resuscitation on the officer I shoot.”
Nie Huaishang: “I’ll aim close to the heart.”
Zhang Chu’an: “I’ll go. I’m the fastest.”
Nie Huaishang: “Fine.”
Just after logging off, Nie Huaishang heard a knock at the door:
“Brother-in-law, are you asleep?”
Nie Huaishang opened the door and politely asked Ma Yunfei outside:
“Third Brother, it’s so late—what do you need?”
Ma Yunfei rubbed his bald head apologetically: “Brother-in-law, calling you this late is rude, but I’ve got good news for you.”
Ma Yunfei looked meaningfully at Nie Huaishang: “Brother-in-law, you’ve been complaining on the car about how the police chased you all over the place, right?”
“We captured a cop recently. Tonight, you get to vent your anger.”
Nie Huaishang thanked Ma Yunfei: “Third Brother, thank you. I’ve hated these bastards for long—they killed so many of our brothers.”
“Alright, I’ll take you there now.” Ma Yunfei led Nie Huaishang to a nearby warehouse; along the way, Nie Huaishang secretly sent his location to Zhang Chu’an.
“Here we are, brother-in-law.” Ma Yunfei pointed to the man ahead.
Nie Huaishang cursed at the man: “You little bastard—you killed my brothers, so you knew this day would come. Anything you want to say?”
“I’m generous—I’ll let you speak your last words.”
The man before him, though exhausted from torture, let out a bitter laugh:
“I have nothing to say. I only regret I can’t bring you beasts to justice—but you’ll all be punished soon. I’ll wait for you on the path to the underworld.”
Nie Huaishang flew into a rage, drew his pistol, and roared: “You’re dying and still spouting nonsense? Tonight, you’ll taste bullets!”
He fired several shots at the man’s chest, then exhaled deeply: “That felt good. Used to be chased like a stray dog—now I’ve finally avenged my brothers.”
He turned to Ma Yunfei and thanked him: “Thanks, Third Brother—for letting me vent this anger tonight.”
“Don’t mention it—we’re family now.” Ma Yunfei warmly draped an arm over Nie Huaishang’s shoulder as they left the warehouse, ordering his men to dispose of the corpse.
Ma Yunfei was now preliminarily convinced of Nie Huaishang’s loyalty—no police mole would shoot a cop so coldly in the heart.
Not long after they drove off, just as they were about to dump the corpse, gunshots rang out from the woods—Ma Yunfei’s men dropped one by one.
A shadow dashed forward and kicked Ma Yunfei clean off his feet.
Ma Yunfei felt his ribs snap, but the attacker didn’t stop—he charged forward to kill him.
As Ma Yunfei hung mid-air, the attacker’s palm was already about to crush his face. Just as Ma Yunfei thought, “This is the end,”
Nie Huaishang intervened, blocking the attacker. The two clashed fiercely; Ma Yunfei, watching from the side, tried multiple times to shoot the intruder.
But their speed was too fast—Ma Yunfei saw only blurred figures in the dark, unable to distinguish friend from foe.
After a brief exchange, the attacker realized he couldn’t defeat Nie Huaishang quickly, so he grabbed the officer and fled.
Ma Yunfei fired several shots after the fleeing figure, but the shadow didn’t slow.
The figure had killed his men, stolen the corpse, and vanished—leaving Ma Yunfei powerless to stop him.
Had Nie Huaishang not intervened, he’d be dead now—he’s definitely not a police mole.
After repelling the attacker, Nie Huaishang rushed to help Ma Yunfei up:
“Third Brother, we must return to Yuanshan Town—this place is too dangerous to stay.”
Ma Yunfei nodded in agreement:
“Alright, let’s go quickly.”
In the woods, Zhang Chu’an raced toward the police rendezvous point. When he arrived near the ambulance, he was drenched in sweat—he’d carried the officer at full speed.
He’d also used Qi to sustain the officer’s vital signs—but thankfully, the man’s life was still holding.
When the police saw Zhang Chu’an arrive, they immediately lifted the officer onto a stretcher and rushed him to the nearest hospital for emergency treatment.
