Chapter 138: System's Task

Lin Chen leaned on the defense cannon to rest, Xia Nuan handed over a cup of warm water, and he took it and drank a few sips,

his strength gradually recovering. At this time, the system's voice suddenly sounded,

【Detected that the host successfully solved a large-scale mutant creature group, triggering a hidden task—"Extreme Evasion Trial," completing the task can obtain the "One Punch Man" basic ability, including strength enhancement and speed enhancement】

Lin Chen's eyes brightened, and he immediately asked: "How to obtain it? What exactly does the task need to do?

【Task triggering conditions need to meet three points: one, face a single zombie (non-group) for the first time; two, heart rate must exceed 180 beats/minute when facing it; three, successfully complete an extreme evasion, with an evasion range not exceeding 10cm】 the system replied,

then added: "There will be mutation characteristics when the task is triggered: the host's retina will show a 'countdown 0.3 seconds' afterimage, which can see the zombie's movement trajectory in advance; actual combat needs to complete a side-step of 5cm to avoid a fatal bite, which is considered an effective evasion."

"Are there any other precautions?

" Lin Chen asked. 【Need to remind of the cost foreshadowing: after each evasion is completed, the host will have short-term color blindness symptoms, lasting 10 seconds, during which it is impossible to distinguish between red and green, need to pay attention to environmental safety】 the system replied. Lin Chen nodded, kept the task requirements in mind, and said to Xia Nuan: "I'm going to complete a system task, you wait for me in the villa, I'll be back soon."

Xia Nuan was a bit worried: "Do you want me to go with you? What if you encounter danger?

" Lin Chen shook his head: "No need, the task needs to be completed alone, and it's just facing an ordinary zombie,

there will be no danger." He picked up the Purple Lightning Purification Gun, but didn't load it—the task required facing the zombie, not killing it in advance, only evasion.

Lin Chen walked out of the base,

and walked toward the street block that had been cleared earlier. The system helped him locate a single ordinary zombie: 【Detected target located at the entrance of the abandoned convenience store 200 meters ahead, it is an ordinary zombie, no mutation characteristics】

Lin Chen slowed down his pace, approaching step by step, his heart beginning to adjust his state. He knew that to make his heart rate exceed 180, he needed to put himself in a nervous state.

Walking to the entrance of the convenience store, the ordinary zombie was lowering its head and gnawing on a piece of abandoned bread,

hearing footsteps, it slowly raised its head, its rotten face full of blood, and rushed toward Lin Chen.

Lin Chen didn't move, staring at the zombie's movements, while feeling his own heartbeat—he deliberately recalled the scene of Xia Nuan being injured earlier, making his emotions nervous, his heartbeat gradually accelerating.

The zombie was getting closer,

when it was only 3 meters away from Lin Chen, the system prompt sounded: 【Heart rate detection: 175 beats/minute, not reaching the triggering condition, please continue to increase heart rate】 Lin Chen took a deep breath, looking at the zombie's open mouth, which was full of blackened teeth, deliberately magnifying the fear in his heart, his heartbeat accelerating again.

"Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

" The heart was beating violently in the chest cavity, and Lin Chen could clearly hear his own heartbeat.

When the zombie was only 1 meter away from him, about to pounce on him, the system finally prompted: 【Heart rate detection: 182 beats/minute, reaching the triggering condition! Mutation characteristic activated, retina countdown afterimage generated: 0.3 seconds】

A line of light blue numbers instantly appeared on Lin Chen's retina, and at the same time, he clearly saw the zombie's movement trajectory—it would pounce toward his left shoulder,

and open its mouth to bite the collarbone position. According to the system prompt, he needed to side-step 5cm to evade. Lin Chen held his breath, and the moment the countdown reached zero, his body tilted slightly to the right.

However, perhaps because the heartbeat was too fast, the body was a bit stiff, or perhaps because the first attempt was not skilled enough,

his side-step range exceeded 5cm, about 8cm or so. The zombie missed, fell heavily to the ground, Lin Chen took the opportunity to retreat a few steps, and the system prompt sounded: 【Evasion range detection: 8cm, not reaching the "5cm extreme evasion" requirement, task failed】

Lin Chen was stunned for a moment, looking at the zombie struggling to climb up on the ground, somewhat annoyed. He had clearly seen the movement trajectory just now, but still didn't control the evasion range well.

The system added: 【Task can be retried, the next trigger needs to re-meet the heart rate condition】 Lin Chen nodded, didn't give up, he adjusted his state again, staring at the zombie pouncing over again, this time he deliberately relaxed his body, preparing to precisely control the evasion range.

The zombie approached again, Lin Chen's heartbeat quickly exceeded 180 again, and the countdown afterimage on the retina appeared again. He stared at the zombie's movements, and when the 0.3-second countdown ended, his body tilted lightly to the right—this time he felt the range was just right, about 5cm or so. But just at this moment, the zombie's movement suddenly had a slight deviation, perhaps because the ground was uneven, causing it to stumble, and the mouth that was originally going to bite the collarbone shifted to the shoulder position. Lin Chen's evasion didn't avoid the zombie's claws, and he was scratched by it. His clothes were torn, and a shallow scratch was left on his shoulder.

【Evasion judgment: failed to successfully avoid a fatal attack (claws did not cause fatal injury, but the attack trajectory deviated from the original prediction), task failed】 the system prompt sounded again. Lin Chen frowned, looking at the zombie pouncing over again, this time he didn't try again, but directly raised the Purple Lightning Purification Gun, fired at the zombie's head, and killed it.

He looked at the zombie's corpse on the ground, touched the scratch on his shoulder, somewhat helpless. The first attempt failed, and the second attempt also failed because of the zombie's movement deviation. The system comforted: 【Task has no time limit, the host can continue to try later】 Lin Chen nodded, turned and walked toward the base, thinking that next time he must control the evasion range well, strive to complete the task, and obtain the ability of One Punch Man. ===== CHAPTER 139 =====
