Chapter 230: Visit
The iron door of the underground cell at the Starfire Group headquarters was pushed open slowly, making a creaking sound,
which was particularly harsh in the silent corridor. Lin Chen walked at the front,
followed by two clone soldiers, the three of them walking in perfect unison,
their footsteps echoing on the cold concrete floor. The light in the cell was dim and gloomy,
the walls covered in mottled mold spots, and the air filled with a damp, musty smell mixed with a faint scent of blood, making one unable to help but frown.
Lin Chen stopped in front of the deepest cell, and Lin Hao, hearing the movement behind the iron bars,
immediately curled into a ball and moved toward the corner. His hair was messy,
his clothes tattered and covered in stains and blood scabs,
his face filled with terror, his eyes bloodshot. The moment he saw Lin Chen,
his body couldn't stop trembling, the sound of his teeth chattering clearly audible.
The two clone soldiers stepped forward and opened the lock on the iron bars,
the iron door pushed open with a clanging sound. Lin Chen stepped inside,
the clone soldiers guarding the door without following. Lin Chen walked up to Lin Hao,
looking down at him, his eyes devoid of any warmth, only a cold, dead silence.
He didn't emit any cold air, yet the temperature in the entire cell seemed to drop by several degrees.
Lin Hao didn't dare to look up at him, just stared fixedly at his own toes,
his body shaking like chaff, muttering incessantly:
"Don't kill me... I was wrong... I shouldn't have mixed with the Iron Hand Group... I shouldn't have listened to Zhou Bao..."
Lin Chen didn't speak, just watched him quietly, watching his wretched appearance.
He remembered the scene where Lin Guodong pushed Lin Hao over,
remembered Lin Hao crying and begging for mercy, remembered the evil deeds the Iron Hand Group had done, and felt not a ripple in his heart.
After a long time, Lin Chen finally spoke, his voice very light, yet like a cold knife,
slicing through the silence in the cell: "Do you know where the people from the Iron Hand Group went?"
Lin Hao's body shuddered violently, his head buried even lower, his muttering becoming even quieter,
"I don't know... I don't know anything..."
"Zhou Bao has been captured, Zhao Hu has surrendered, and the Iron Hand Group's territory has been taken over by us.
Those core members are either dead or locked up." Lin Chen's voice remained light, "You were a member of the Iron Hand Group,
tell me,
how should I deal with you?"
Lin Hao was scared out of his wits upon hearing this; he lifted his head abruptly,
his face covered in tears and snot, kowtowing to Lin Chen incessantly, his forehead hitting the concrete floor,
making a thumping sound, blood quickly seeping out:
"Please... please spare my life... I'm willing to be your beast of burden... I'm willing to go to the most dangerous places... I'm willing to do anything..."
Lin Chen watched him kowtowing, a mocking arc forming at the corner of his mouth,
"Beast of burden?
Are you worthy?
When you were looting survivor supplies with the Iron Hand Group, why didn't you think this day would come?
When you were helping Zhou Bao plot against me, why didn't you think this day would come?"
Lin Hao stopped kowtowing; he slumped on the floor, looking at Lin Chen's cold eyes,
knowing that begging for mercy was useless, the fear in his eyes gradually replaced by despair.
He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but found his throat so dry he couldn't make a sound, only a rattling noise.
Lin Chen crouched down, looking at his desperate eyes, and spoke slowly.
"You are just like Lin Guodong,
both trash,
both cowards who only know how to beg. People like you living in this world is just a waste of food and air."
Lin Hao's eyes widened, a flash of hatred in them. He looked at Lin Chen,
suddenly roaring: "Kill me then! If you have the guts, kill me! You're just like Zhou Bao! You're all beasts!"
Lin Chen's gaze turned cold; he raised his hand, and a wave of cold air instantly enveloped Lin Hao.
Lin Hao's roaring stopped abruptly, his body covered by a thin layer of ice,
the hatred on his face frozen for eternity. Lin Chen stood up, looking at the frozen Lin Hao, the mocking arc at the corner of his mouth deepening.
He turned and walked toward the door; when he reached it, he stopped and said to the clone soldier guarding the door: "Watch him well; don't let him melt."
The clone soldier responded in a deep voice: "Yes, Team Leader Lin."
Lin Chen didn't look back and walked out of the cell. The clone soldier stepped forward, closed the iron door, and locked it again. Lin Chen walked out along the corridor,
his footsteps gradually fading. In the cell, the frozen Lin Hao still maintained an expression of intertwined despair and hatred, standing quietly in the corner,
like a cold statue. The light in the cell remained dim, the mold spots on the walls remained mottled, and the musty and bloody smell in the air remained, everything just as it was before, without any change. ===== CHAPTER 231 =====
