Chapter 249: Blizzard
The off-road vehicle sped on the dirt road of the Western Hills, the tires crushing the gravel,
emitting a *creaking* sound. Lin Chen sat in the passenger seat, clutching the schedule for the joint meeting, his gaze sweeping over the ruins flashing past outside the window.
Ten elite team members rode in three off-road vehicles, maintaining a single-file formation, vigilantly watching the movements all around.
Twenty kilometers from the Bluestone Safe Zone, the voice of a scout team member suddenly came through the walkie-talkie: "Team Leader Lin, a mutant body pack has been discovered three kilometers ahead,
with a quantity of about fifty, moving in our direction."
Lin Chen's eyes sharpened, and he raised his hand to signal the convoy to slow down: "Everyone prepare for battle, save ammunition, prioritize solving the high-tier mutant bodies."
The team members acknowledged immediately, pushing open the car doors one after another, gripping the weapons in their hands,
and quickly forming a defensive formation on both sides of the convoy. The car doors of the off-road vehicles were used as cover, and the muzzles were aimed squarely at the intersection ahead.
Not long after, a burst of chaotic roaring sounds came, and more than fifty mutant bodies rushed out from the intersection.
Their bodies were covered in festering wounds, their limbs were twisted and deformed, and their eyes shone with a bloodthirsty red light, rushing toward the convoy like madmen.
"Fire!"
Lin Chen gave the order, and the sound of gunfire rang out instantly.
Bullets whistled through the air, hitting the heads of the mutant bodies with precision.
The low-tier mutant bodies fell to the ground one after another, their bodies twitching a few times,
before falling silent. A few high-tier mutant bodies were extremely fast, dodging the bullets and rushing toward the team members.
Lin Chen leaped up, his ice blade unsheathed, a cold light flashing, and the head of a high-tier mutant body rolled to the ground.
The moment he landed, another mutant body had already pounced in front of him. Lin Chen dodged to the side, and the ice blade stabbed into the heart of the mutant body with a backhand motion.
The team members' morale was greatly boosted, coordinating with Lin Chen's movements, continuously reaping the lives of the mutant bodies.
The battle lasted less than ten minutes before all fifty-plus mutant bodies were completely cleared.
Lin Chen retracted his ice blade, looking at the corpses all over the ground, his brows furrowing: "The number of these mutant bodies is not right.
The mutant bodies in the Western Hills have always been scattered; it's impossible for so many to gather suddenly."
A team member squatted down, checked the corpses of the mutant bodies,
and raised his head to say: "Team Leader Lin, these mutant bodies all carry the secondary infection virus, and are more ferocious than the ones we encountered before."
Lin Chen's expression sank. He knew that this was absolutely not a coincidence;
it must be the Black Scorpion Organization playing tricks in the shadows. They deliberately lured the mutant bodies here just to stop him from attending the joint meeting.
"Everyone get in the car, speed up," Lin Chen shouted to the team members,
"Get to the Bluestone Safe Zone as soon as possible; it's not safe here."
The team members got into the cars immediately, and the off-road vehicles started again, speeding toward the direction of the Bluestone Safe Zone.
Just as the convoy was driving halfway up the mountain, the sky suddenly darkened. The originally clear weather instantly became overcast, and a gale whipped up snow, attacking the convoy.
"Something's wrong," shouted the team member driving the off-road vehicle, "The color of this snow is wrong."
Lin Chen looked up at the sky, only to see that the falling snowflakes were actually purple, as if they had been dyed, and when they landed on the ground, they emitted a *hissing* sound. Visibility dropped to five meters instantly, and the convoy was forced to stop, turning on the headlights to barely illuminate the road ahead.
"What is going on?" A team member pushed open the car door, reached out to catch a purple snowflake, and his expression changed instantly, "This isn't snow, it's spore-like material."
As soon as the words fell, that team member's arm began to swell red, and the skin seemed to be scorched, emitting wisps of blue smoke. He screamed in pain, hurriedly retracting his arm into the car, and slapped the spores on it hard.
Lin Chen shouted immediately: "Everyone close the car doors and windows tightly, do not touch these purple snowflakes; these are secondary infection virus spores."
The team members did not dare to be negligent, immediately closing the car doors and windows tightly. Even so, they could still smell a pungent odor drilling in from the gaps in the car windows, making people dizzy.
The purple blizzard grew heavier, and the gale howled, as if it wanted to flip the off-road vehicles over.
The light of the headlights was swallowed by the wind and snow, and they could only see a blur of purple before them.
Lin Chen looked at the scene outside the window, his heart growing heavier. This kind of abnormal blizzard was definitely not naturally formed; it must be the Black Scorpion Organization playing tricks.
They not only lured mutant bodies but also released virus spores, just to trap them here to death.
"Activate the air purification system in the car," Lin Chen shouted to the team members,
"Everyone put on gas masks to prevent inhaling the virus spores."
The team members did as told immediately, putting on gas masks and activating the air purification system.
The pungent odor in the car cabin gradually dissipated, and the team members' expressions eased slightly.
"Team Leader Lin, what do we do now?" A team member asked through the walkie-talkie,
"The wind and snow are too heavy; we can't see the road at all. If we continue to advance, it's very easy to fall into a mountain gully."
Lin Chen was silent for a few seconds, looking at the purple blizzard outside the window, and said: "Stand by on the spot, wait for the wind and snow to get smaller before leaving. Pay attention to observing the movements all around to prevent mutant bodies from sneaking an attack."
The team members acknowledged, gripping the weapons in their hands tightly, vigilantly watching outside the windows.
Time passed second by second, and the purple blizzard showed no signs of weakening, instead growing heavier. The frost on the car windows grew thicker, only able to rely on the windshield wipers to barely scrape out a gap.
Just then, a burst of static electrical noise came from the walkie-talkie, followed by
a strange voice: "Lin Chen, don't waste your effort. You won't be able to walk out of here, and you won't be able to attend the joint meeting. Surrender obediently, and I might still leave you an intact corpse."
Lin Chen's eyes turned cold; he recognized this voice—it was the second-in-command of the Black Scorpion Organization, Iron Hand.
"Iron Hand, if you have the ability, come out and fight one-on-one. Hiding in the back and playing small tricks, what kind of hero is that?" Lin Chen shouted into the walkie-talkie.
Iron Hand's laughter came from the walkie-talkie, carrying a bit of triumph: "One-on-one? I'm not that stupid. I'll just watch here as you and your team members get infected by the virus spores and turn into walking corpses."
Lin Chen gripped his fists tightly, and the ice blade in his hand buzzed.
He knew that Iron Hand was nearby, but the wind and snow were too heavy, and he couldn't find his location at all.
"Team Leader Lin, we can't sit and wait for death," a team member said to Lin Chen, "Let's take the initiative; perhaps we can find Iron Hand's location."
Lin Chen shook his head: "No, the wind and snow are too heavy. If we go out now,
it's just sending ourselves to death. Wait a little longer; when the wind and snow get smaller, we'll rush out."
The team members stopped speaking, and the car cabin fell into silence. Only the sound of the howling gale and the roar of the air purification system intertwined.
Another half hour passed, and the purple blizzard finally showed signs of weakening.
Visibility gradually improved, and they could see the scene ten meters away.
Lin Chen shouted immediately: "Everyone prepare, start the off-road vehicles, we're rushing out."
The team members acknowledged immediately, starting the off-road vehicles. The three off-road vehicles started at the same time, the light of the headlights piercing through the wind and snow, rushing toward the direction of the Bluestone Safe Zone.
Just as the off-road vehicles drove to the top of the mountain, Lin Chen suddenly saw that on the road ahead,
stood a familiar figure. The person was wearing a black windbreaker, holding a heavy machine gun in his hand, and a ferocious smile on his face.
It was Iron Hand.
Seeing the off-road vehicles rushing over, Iron Hand immediately raised the heavy machine gun and fired frantically at the convoy. ===== CHAPTER 250 =====
