Chapter 97

Lin Chen looked at the corpse of the Shadow Organization leader,

but the doubt in his heart grew heavier. The leader said there were more people behind him who wanted to assassinate him.

Who exactly was planning this behind the scenes? He squatted down and rummaged through the leader's pockets, hoping to find some clues.

After searching for a long time, he only found a black communicator and a note. A string of numbers was written on the note, which looked like a password.

He picked up the communicator and tried to turn it on, but it required a password. Lin Chen remembered the numbers on the note,

and tried entering them. The communicator opened as expected. There was only one unread message in the communicator, with the sender marked as "X", and the content was: "If Lin Chen appears,

immediately activate the backup plan, take the Extreme Cold Core fragment to the Chengnan warehouse, and wait for further instructions."

"Extreme Cold Core fragment?" Lin Chen frowned. The Extreme Cold Core he obtained earlier was complete, so how could there be fragments? Could He Shao have other Extreme Cold Cores? He put away the communicator and the note, deciding to return to the villa first to tell Xia Nuan about this, and then find a way to investigate the identity of "X".

Just as he walked out of the abandoned research institute, Lin Chen heard footsteps behind him. He turned around immediately,

raised his Purple Lightning Purification Gun, but saw Xia Nuan running over, holding his M416 rifle in her hand.

"Why are you here? Didn't I tell you to wait at the villa?" Lin Chen lowered his gun and walked over to ask.

Xia Nuan panted and said, "I was worried about you, so I followed you here.

Are you okay? Did you find He Shao?" Lin Chen shook his head: "I didn't find He Shao,

I only found the Shadow Organization leader; he has already been killed by me. However, I discovered some clues,

and there might be someone else targeting us behind the scenes." He handed the communicator and the note to Xia Nuan and recounted the message he had just seen.

After reading the message, Xia Nuan's expression also became serious: "Who exactly is this 'X'?

Why does he want the Extreme Cold Core fragment?" Lin Chen said: "I don't know, but we must find the Chengnan warehouse as soon as possible to see what their backup plan is,

perhaps we can find He Shao's whereabouts." The two did not hesitate and walked toward the direction of the Chengnan warehouse.

On the way, they encountered a few mutated zombies, which Lin Chen quickly eliminated using his Absolute Zero ability.

Half an hour later, the two arrived at the Chengnan warehouse. The warehouse gate was tightly shut, there were no guards at the entrance,

only two surveillance cameras were rotating. Xia Nuan took out a dagger and threw it at the cameras; the cameras were smashed, and the screen went black.

Lin Chen kicked open the warehouse gate, and it was pitch black inside. He turned on his phone's flashlight,

illuminating the surroundings, and discovered that many boxes were piled up in the warehouse, with a metal box placed on a platform in the middle,

and something seemed to be inside the box. Just then, the warehouse lights suddenly turned on,

and more than a dozen people dressed in black walked out from behind the boxes, all holding guns, aiming at them.

"Mr. Lin Chen, we have been waiting for you for a long time." A leader walked out with a smile on his face,

"Our boss asked us to pass on a message: as long as you hand over the complete Extreme Cold Core,

we will tell you He Shao's whereabouts and can also guarantee your safety."

Lin Chen sneered: "Who is your boss? Is it 'X'? If he wants the Extreme Cold Core,

why doesn't he come and get it himself?"

" The leader said: "You don't need to know the boss's identity,

you only need to answer: will you hand over the Extreme Cold Core or not?" Lin Chen did not answer, but instead mobilized his Absolute Zero ability,

condensed an ice spike in his palm, and shot it at the leader.

The leader did not expect Lin Chen to make a move suddenly, and before he could dodge, he was hit in the chest by the ice spike,

and fell to the ground.

The other men in black immediately opened fire, and bullets flew toward Lin Chen and Xia Nuan. Lin Chen condensed an ice shield,

blocking the bullets, while Xia Nuan took out her sniper rifle and fired at the men in black; soon, several men in black fell.

The two cooperated tacitly, with Lin Chen providing cover with the ice shield and Xia Nuan responsible for sniping, and the men in black fell one by one.

The remaining few men in black saw that the situation was bad and wanted to escape, but were blocked by Lin Chen using ice spikes,

and all were frozen into ice sculptures. After dealing with the men in black, Lin Chen walked to the platform and opened the metal box,

and sure enough, a blue crystal was inside—it was exactly the Extreme Cold Core fragment.

He picked up the fragment, put it into his backpack, and said to Xia Nuan: "Let's leave here quickly,

it's not safe here, someone else might come." The two had just walked to the warehouse entrance,

when they heard the sound of car engines coming from outside. Lin Chen poked his head out to look and saw five trucks driving toward the warehouse,

with more than a dozen experiment guards standing on each truck, holding heavy weapons.

"Oh no, it's He Shao's people!" Lin Chen pulled Xia Nuan and quickly hid behind the boxes in the warehouse.

The trucks stopped at the warehouse entrance, and the experiment guards got off, rushed into the warehouse, and began to search.

Lin Chen and Xia Nuan held their breath, hiding behind the boxes, not daring to make a sound.

Just when the experiment guards were about to search to where they were, the roar of zombies suddenly came from outside the warehouse.

The experiment guards were stunned for a moment and ran out one after another to check, only to see hundreds of mutated zombies rushing toward the warehouse,

led by a huge mutated zombie king, its body covered in thick ice armor, looking exceptionally fierce.

The experiment guards immediately opened fire, shooting at the zombies. The zombie king let out a roar,

waving its huge claws, swatting away several experiment guards. The scene instantly became chaotic,

and Lin Chen and Xia Nuan took the opportunity to slip out from the back door of the warehouse and run toward the direction of the villa.

After running for more than ten minutes, the two finally shook off the zombies and experiment guards behind them.

Xia Nuan panted and said: "It's a good thing the zombies helped, otherwise we would have been in trouble today."

Lin Chen nodded, took out the communicator, and said: "This communicator and the Extreme Cold Core fragment must still be useful,

after we return to the villa, we will study them carefully, perhaps we can find clues about 'X' and He Shao."

The two continued to walk forward and soon saw the shadow of the villa. Just then, Lin Chen's phone suddenly rang;

it was from the system. He pressed the answer button, and the system's voice sounded: 【Host, strong energy fluctuations have been detected near the Chengnan warehouse, suspected to be the reaction of the Extreme Cold Core fragment, and another unknown energy is approaching. It is recommended that you return to the villa as soon as possible and strengthen defenses】.

Lin Chen hung up the phone and said to Xia Nuan: "The system says unknown energy is approaching, we must return to the villa quickly.

" The two quickened their pace, rushed into the villa, and closed the gate. Lin Chen immediately mobilized his Absolute Zero ability,

condensing an ice wall around the villa to strengthen defenses. Xia Nuan went to check the weapons to ensure they could fight at any time.

After the two finished their defenses, they sat in the living room, watching the wind and snow outside the window. Lin Chen picked up the communicator,

and tried to search for information on "X" again, but found nothing. He sighed and said: "It seems we have to keep investigating; if we don't find 'X' and He Shao,

we will never have peace." Xia Nuan nodded and said: "No matter how difficult it is, we will face it together."
