Chapter 1194: Formally Entering F City
Xu Chenchen looked at Ning Chen in disbelief; how, how could he know about this?!
Seeing Xu Chenchen's expression, Ning Chen realized he had guessed correctly.
"Speak up. What is this laboratory about? What do you know?"
"What, what? Brother Ning, what are you talking about? Could it be that he knows something?" Lin Yi, bewildered by Ning Chen's sudden words, voiced the question on his mind.
Ning Chen said nothing, merely staring at Xu Chenchen; yet even so, the pressure emanating from Ning Chen made Xu Chenchen break out in a cold sweat.
"I, I..." Xu Chenchen gritted his teeth; he did not know how to explain this matter, nor did he know whether they would forgive him if he spoke the truth.
For he had indeed concealed certain things, certain very important things.
Just then, the Elder suddenly stepped toward them. Seeing this, Ning Chen stopped looking at Xu Chenchen and reminded him: "Since you have chosen to become my person, do not think of anything else. Think carefully; I am waiting for you to speak to me."
Having spoken, Ning Chen fell silent, and the Elder opened the car door.
He glanced at the few people inside the car and asked curiously, "What's wrong, young ones? Having a quarrel?"
The Elder chuckled as he climbed into the car: "I say, young ones, you are still young; a little bickering is normal, but do not let it hurt your feelings. In this apocalypse, it is not easy for you to support one another and make it this far; you are each other's important partners."
The car started, and the Elder ceased speaking. Sometimes, a slight nudge from someone is enough for a lost person to suddenly awaken.
Xu Chenchen looked at Ning Chen, moved his lips, and spoke very softly: "Brother Ning, I'm sorry. I did not mean to hide this from you; I just, just didn't know how to bring it up. Let me prepare myself mentally, and I will tell you everything I know."
Ning Chen was not the type to press his advantage when he was in the right; seeing Xu Chenchen speak thus, he nodded and agreed.
"Hahaha, that's right. What young people don't quarrel? A little bickering strengthens bonds. Fine, as long as you've sorted it out, that's enough."
"Um, Elder, what do you do in this F Zone?" Lin Yi was very interested in this Elder.
Whether in words or deeds, he appeared decisive and efficient.
"Me? I used to be a mechanic. Honestly, if you want to learn mechanics, given Ning Chen's sake, I can teach you."
Boys simply cannot resist anything mechanical; upon hearing this, Lin Yi's eyes shone with the brightness of two hundred watts, so dazzling that the Elder could hardly bear to look.
"Elder, is it really possible?"
Facing Lin Yi's face full of expectations, the Elder nodded seriously: "Of course it is. First, tell me your name."
"Lin Yi. My name is Lin Yi. Elder, what do you usually do?"
Once the topic turned to his own creations, the Elder began to speak endlessly, recounting his past achievements: artificial intelligence, mechanical dogs, and the like. Now, in the apocalypse, with resources scarce, he could only create within limited constraints.
Admiration all but bubbled out of Lin Yi's eyes; blinking, he was now extremely eager for the days ahead when he would enter F City and be taught by the Elder.
The car was heading toward F City, moving quickly; soon, the entrance to F City came into view.
Xu Chenchen stiffened visibly; his breathing grew even more rapid. If he had a heartbeat, it would probably be racing uncontrollably by now.
Ning Chen pressed his hand on Xu Chenchen's shoulder, forcing him to calm down.
"It's alright. No need to panic."
Ning Chen's steady voice filled Xu Chenchen with immense gratitude at that moment; he now felt much better.
Ning Chen extended his hand and circled Xu Chenchen with a layer of ability, ensuring that no one would discover his identity.
The Elder's car arrived at the entrance of F City first; he kept the window rolled down.
The guard smiled as he leaned toward the window: "Elder, who are these people...? I've never seen them before?"
The Elder reached out and slapped the guard's hand with a "crack!" The guard let out a cry of pain and stepped back two paces.
"These are survivors I found, and people I knew before. Enough; let them pass quickly. I need to take them to have their ability levels assessed."
With the Elder's word, the guard, of course, let them pass without a second thought.
Lin Yi wore an expression of astonishment; he had thought they would undergo some kind of inspection, yet, yet it was this easy?!
The scene inside also amazed Lin Yi greatly; looking at the throngs of people flowing past, he could hardly process it.
The place they had been staying in during this period had always had very few humans, sometimes none at all; suddenly seeing so many people was truly... unsettling.
This was Ning Chen's second time entering; he calmly observed the surroundings.
This time, the Elder did not take them to his villa but drove directly into the military zone where Ning Chen and Xiao Han had previously entered by car.
After stopping the car, the Elder turned and looked at Xu Chenchen: "By the way, I forgot one thing. What is your ability? Since you are a high-level infected, you must possess your own ability as well."
Xu Chenchen instinctively looked at Ning Chen, seeking his help.
Ning Chen nodded at Xu Chenchen, indicating that he should speak.
"My ability is to transform into anyone. Additionally, I have a supportive skill that allows me to control the wind."
Upon hearing Xu Chenchen's words, the Elder immediately opened the glove compartment and rummaged for something; within moments, he produced an ID card.
"Take a look. Can you transform into this person?"
Xu Chenchen took the ID card; it showed a boy wearing glasses, with large eyes and a very handsome appearance.
"This was my former assistant. After the apocalypse began, he couldn't hold on and was bitten. No one knows this; others only know I had an assistant. You may use this identity."
As he spoke these words, the Elder's voice sounded quite downcast; clearly, this assistant meant a great deal to him, and at the very least, the assistant's death had been a blow to him.
Xu Chenchen indeed needed a new identity now; inside this place was that "King," and using his original appearance would likely lead to discovery.
Xu Chenchen gazed at the face on the ID card and began using his ability to alter his appearance.
Within moments, he looked exactly like the person on the card.
"Take this; carry it with you whenever you go out. Also, young man, your current identity has a rather weak persona; do not let the act slip, after all, many here are shrewd."
