Chapter 214

"The Gulf Family has a man known as 'Luo San' who participated in the shootout at the East Sea Grand Hotel two and a half years ago. According to newly obtained intelligence, this man is very likely the direct gunman who killed Officer Si's daughter, Si Shiya."

Professor Ren looked at Gu Yu and did not interrupt him.

"However, a few days ago, roughly during that week from late October to early November, people within the family suddenly lost contact with Luo San."

"This Luo San previously had an employment relationship with the Gulf Family, so theoretically he was not a member of the group."

"But..." Gu Yu paused, "now they believe that this Luo San has very likely already died."

Professor Ren looked at Gu Yu and said nothing.

"Luo San participated in multiple homicides of the Gulf Family and was the direct 'sanctioner'. Because his marksmanship was excellent, he was considered a top-notch sniper, and his skills were formidable," Gu Yu said. "If he really is dead, then, according to the Gulf Family's methods, it is very likely..."

"... they will once again activate that Blood Contract program."

"An eye for an eye?" Professor Ren asked.

Gu Yu nodded.

"This program is a retaliatory measure the Gulf Family specifically launched against anti-drug criminal police, targeting the families behind the anti-drug officers. Do they think Luo San's death—or disappearance—is related to the police?" Professor Ren found this somewhat strange.

"We cannot confirm it yet," Gu Yu said, "but..."

"Just a few days ago, a strange phenomenon occurred," Gu Yu said. "Comrades in Yunnan Province reported that in early December, the East Sea City Public Security Bureau in Dong Province sent a request for assistance to Yunnan Province."

"They requested the Yunnan side to help intercept a black RV entering the Yunnan region."

"Professor, do you know who the owner of that black RV is?"

Professor Ren looked at Gu Yu.

"It is a man named Ning Chen."

"Ning Chen? Who is that?"

"A travel streamer on a certain online live-streaming platform. The streamer's name is 'Brother Shiguang', and he has a large number of fans."

"Oh." Professor Ren nodded.

Gu Yu looked at the professor. "This Brother Shiguang, this Ning Chen, is the fiancé of the female officer Si Shiya, who died in the line of duty at the East Sea Grand Hotel two and a half years ago."

Professor Ren's entire body shook. He stared at Gu Yu and could not speak for a long time.

"Not long ago, the Anji City Public Security Bureau in Yunnan Province cracked a case of online C-sales fraud combined with illegal detention. The main culprit's online name is 'Li Sai Gao'. He is still at large, but one of his accomplices has been caught."

"According to this accomplice's confession, on the night of December 4, a man rushed to the building where their base was located, subdued four members of their gang, but had only one purpose."

"What purpose?"

"That man was looking for Luo San."

Professor Ren felt goosebumps rise all over his body.

He looked at Gu Yu in surprise.

"Do you now suspect... this person?"

Gu Yu shook his head. "No. Currently, there is no direct evidence proving that the person looking for Luo San is Ning Chen."

"The East Sea City Public Security Bureau did not report this matter?" Professor Ren asked.

Gu Yu shook his head. "I don't know for what reason—the East Sea City Public Security Bureau, up to now, has not reported this matter to the provincial department or the ministry. Of course, it is also possible that the bureau-level unit did not attach enough importance to it."

Thus, they remained silent for a while.

Professor Ren spoke first.

"Xiao Gu, if the person looking for Luo San is indeed the one you mentioned, Si Shiya's fiancé, Ning Chen, what then?"

Gu Yu did not speak for a long time, for a long while.

"The evil Blood Contract system of the Golden Triangle Gulf Family, since its creation, has always retaliated against the families of anti-drug police."

"And if it truly is so..."

"... then this will be the first time the Gulf Family has suffered a counter-retaliation from the family of an anti-drug police officer..."

After Gu Yu finished speaking.

Silence fell over the classroom again.

After a while, Professor Ren said, "You, what do you plan to do next?"

Gu Yu looked at the professor. After a moment.

"If it is truly so, then each of us will, deep in our bones, applaud this, but... the bottom line of the law must ultimately not be broken."

Professor Ren listened and nodded.

"Indeed so, indeed so."

He began to lower his head and pack up his things on the lectern. After packing them up, he walked past Gu Yu and suddenly paused.

"Xiao Gu, I am no longer on the front line of anti-drug operations, so I will speak plainly."

Gu Yu turned around and looked at the professor.

"Sometimes, I really think that our soldiers, for this country, for the people's peace and prosperity, in the invisible dark areas, fight a life-and-death struggle against evil criminal forces."

"Yet, we cannot even protect their families."

"Does this not fundamentally also mean that we have failed in our duty?"

Professor Ren raised his hand, patted Gu Yu's shoulder, and walked out of the classroom.

Gu Yu stood alone at the back of the classroom, still reflecting on the professor's words just now.

He lowered his head.

He did not feel good in his heart either.

Thus, he stood alone for a long while.

The phone vibrated.

He picked it up, and the display showed a number from the other side of the ocean.

He answered.

From the other end of the line came a woman's excited and cheerful voice:

"Uncle Gu! I did it! I finally passed the 'Red Rose' assessment!"

Gu Yu was stunned.

Then he smiled and said, "Is that so? Then congratulations to you."

149. (2/6) As long as you come to the north and spend a winter in the northern land,

Wang Wang stared at Ning Chen very seriously.

Actually, the Husky is a very beautiful dog.

With its clear, blue, watery eyes, the white coat accented with black stripes, and its relatively large build,

it should originally have been a creature combining beauty, majesty, and elegance.

But for some reason, its reputation later turned into what it is now.

So much so that even though Wang Wang now wore a serious expression,

the mockery from the viewers in Brother Shiguang's live stream did not diminish in the slightest.

【Why does seeing Wang Wang's serious face make me want to laugh? Ah hahaha...】

【Upstairs, can you be a bit more steady? He is so serious, yet you laugh so wildly?】

【Wang Wang: Do I owe your family grain?】

【The Husky's reputation and that dog face of his are simply a perfect match!】

After the RV stopped,

Wang Wang climbed up from under the seat and glared angrily at Ning Chen again.

Ning Chen turned his head slightly and saw that creature staring at him.

"Sit steady next time, you," Ning Chen said.

Wang Wang glared at him.

The man and the dog got out of the driver's cabin.

The sun shone brilliantly overhead, and the snow beneath their feet was thick.

Ning Chen changed into a heavy coat, slung a backpack over his shoulders, put on large sunglasses, and, leading Wang Wang, walked forward.

Ahead lay his destination.
