Chapter 222

~6 min read 1,130 words

In the distance, Hao Zeyan and Yang Xue, the two of them, were enjoying the beautiful scenery under the sunlight, all lovey-dovey.

They would soon be getting married, beginning an ordinary person's ordinary life.

They simply could not have imagined.

That silent man sitting not far from them—what kind of person he was, and what kind of ever-expanding whirlpool's center he was currently in.

"Brother, looks like we really won't be able to wait for the rime!" In the distance, Hao Zeyan called out again.

Did Ning Chen still did not have any reaction.

154. It's him! It's him! It's that person!

The place where the Meigong River and the Meisai River meet is a delta.

This region boundary, mostly mountainous, has a very unique landform.

Dense jungle covered the land, while the great river flowed quietly through it; most of the time, this area remained in a state of isolation from the world.

The setting sun was bright.

The afterglow spilled over this land.

The distant gray-ink-colored mountains rose and fell one after another.

On the Meigong River winding around the mountains, a layer of moist mist was spread.

The afterglow of the setting sun pierced through the fog, sprinkling orange light over this field blooming with bright orange-red flowers.

In a wheelchair sat a beautiful Lady.

Behind her, pushing the wheelchair, was a man with a neat beard on his chin.

"Look, how beautiful." The man raised his hand and placed it on the beautiful Lady's shoulder.

But the beautiful Lady's face was sullen, as if harboring endless worries.

"Looking at more of these outdoor beautiful sights, breathing in some fresh air, will be good for your health." The man behind her spoke very gently, full of doting affection.

Not far away, a young man wearing a black half-sleeve shirt walked over.

He handed a mobile phone to him.

The man picked up the phone.

A voice came from the other end of the phone.

He nodded, muttering something under his breath.

Then, he hung up the phone.

He tidied his own collar, and said to the person behind him, "Take the Lady back."

"Where are you going?" the beautiful Lady said.

The man was stunned for a moment, walked over, squatted in front of her, and smiled, "Work matters, tonight I might be very late."

The beautiful Lady stared at him coldly, "You have—another 'business' again?"

The man looked at her.

After a while, he lowered his head and sighed.

Suddenly he raised his hand.

And gave her a slap.

The beautiful Lady's face turned to the other side, and the corner of her mouth immediately swelled up.

But she, seemed to be quite accustomed to such treatment.

Instead, she turned her face back and stared at him.

Seeing her like this, the man stood up and began to unbuckle his own belt.

On the woman's face, there was utter terror.

Then, the man grabbed the belt and began whipping the woman like a madman.

The woman pressed her lips tightly together, not making a sound.

Not far away there were still a few people, all standing with their hands behind their backs, unmoved.

Seeing that she did not beg, the man beat her even more frantically.

The woman finally could not bear it any longer, rolled off the wheelchair onto the ground, and clung to his leg begging piteously.

Only then did the man stop, bent down and looked at her, "If you'd begged me earlier, wouldn't that have been fine?"

"My affairs, you are not to ask about; I'll tell you one last time. If there's a next time, I'll feed you to the wolves."

The woman's whole body trembled.

The man left.

On the roadside not far away, a black sedan was parked.

A few subordinates waited quietly beside the car.

The man got straight into the car, and the car started moving.

Along the way, both sides of the road were all fields.

On the fields, there were all those gorgeous orange-red flowers.

The man calmed his mood and began to enjoy the scenery outside the window again.

"This year's growth is really good." The man sighed.

The driver in front did not speak; the person sitting beside him said, "It's this good every year."

The flowers on both sides of the car were stunningly, eerily beautiful.

The black sedan passed through the town.

It moved away from the town.

It kept driving like this for over half an hour.

In the distance, some taller buildings began to appear.

It looked like a town.

The black sedan drove straight to a building and stopped.

The man got out of the car, spat into his palm, rubbed it, then smoothed his previously messy hair, took off his sunglasses, and put them in his shirt pocket.

He walked into the building.

Then, with his hands crossed in front, he began to wait.

He waited for about an hour.

The noisy sound of leather shoes tapping on the ground echoed at the building's entrance.

Several men in suits walked in.

None were particularly old, around forty years of age.

One of them wore a white suit, his leather shoes shining brightly, and like his hair, he appeared quite flashy.

"He's here." He nodded slightly to those around him, looking refined and well-mannered.

But the people around him followed him, yet no one dared to surpass his pace.

The man in the white suit climbed the stairs slowly and deliberately.

Surprisingly, there was no elevator on the first floor; the elevator was on the second floor.

After the man in the white suit and the others got into the elevator, they went straight to the fifth floor.

Then, crossing the corridor, he pushed open a Jin Bihuihuang door.

This was a conference hall.

An oval ivory-white table, edged with gold thread.

Around the table, a circle of people had already gathered.

Each was smoking cigarettes; some were older with graying hair, while others were young.

Seeing the man in the white suit enter, everyone around the table stood up.

The man in the white suit waved his hand at everyone, then sat in the main seat.

He clasped his hands and bowed to the crowd.

The others returned the bow.

Someone nearby lit a cigar for him; he took a puff, placed the cigar on the ashtray before him, and looked at the others.

"The family is very angry about this."

As he spoke, he was slow and deliberate, his voice elegant, just like the impression he gave as a whole.

"Although he never formally belonged to the family, he has done many things for the family," the man in the white suit smiled slightly, "Even if there is no merit, there is at least hard work."
