Chapter 68

The director raised his hand, rubbing his temples:

"I remember, when we visited the families of martyrs at the beginning of this year, I saw this young man. I felt he should have moved past the incident from two years ago... How could this happen?"

53. New Check-in Mission: Namtso, The First Divine Lake

"Mengmeng, after Shiya sacrificed herself, have you and Ning Chen met again in these two years?" Liu Ju Zhiguo asked.

Zhao Mengmeng thought for a moment, "A few times. Right after Shiya sacrificed herself, he came looking for me because he knew I was closest to Shiya. During that time, we often sat at the coffee shop across the street."

"He would ask me some questions about Shiya."

"After that, I saw him on the first anniversary of Shiya's death."

"How did he seem to you?"

Zhao Mengmeng shook her head. "The feeling he gave me was always one of calmness, but the initial calmness still couldn't hide his sense of decadence. However, later on, I felt he was much better."

"It was around that time that I thought he was gradually moving on."

"Not long ago, I accidentally discovered he had gone traveling and even started a livestream, becoming a travel streamer. At that time, I really thought he was planning to start a new life."

"Until that day, when I accidentally saw this photo in his livestream."

Liu Ju Zhiguo rubbed his chin.

The others were also bewildered.

The real world is not a novel.

In reality, for a non-professional ordinary person to participate in solving a case without channels and resources at hand is almost as difficult as climbing to the sky.

But the matter Zhao Mengmeng reported today completely shattered everyone's assumptions.

The photo in Ning Chen's hand is extremely precious.

It is hard to imagine what kind of search he went through to finally obtain such a photo.

Even without seeing the killer's face clearly in this photo.

"How long has he been working as this streamer?"

"It should be less than half a month," Zhao Mengmeng said.

"Is it the kind where he travels around in an RV?"

Zhao Mengmeng nodded.

"Such an RV must not be cheap; it must cost at least several hundred thousand, right?"

"In the will left by Shiya before her death, she left all her property, including the earnings from the legal education livestreams she did while alive, to Ning Chen, after deducting the donations to charitable organizations. Adding their savings over the years, but... it might still not be enough."

"Where has he been in these half a month?"

"He went to Dong Bashan and livestreamed the Perseid meteor shower and the fireball from half a month ago."

"I heard about that at the time. It was him who livestreamed it?" The people present were all somewhat surprised.

Zhao Mengmeng nodded. "In the past few days, he went to Changbai Tianchi in the northeast—"

"Was it that volcanic eruption and volcanic lightning?" someone asked.

"Yes!"

Everyone looked at each other, their eyes filled with disbelief.

They originally thought these events were far removed from them.

Who would have thought that the witness to these two great wonders in the past half month was actually their former colleague Si Shiya's fiancé, this person named Ning Chen.

For some reason.

When everyone mentioned the volcanic lightning.

Zhao Mengmeng suddenly felt as if she had heard it somewhere before.

Also.

The Perseid meteor shower...

It also seems like she heard it somewhere?

In fact, this feeling first occurred to Zhao Mengmeng when she was watching Ning Chen's livestream.

She had a sense of déjà vu.

But she just couldn't remember exactly where she had heard it.

Liu Ju Zhiguo slowly stood up and looked at everyone. "Alright, comrades, the known information is this. This photo is a new lead, and we need to analyze it as a priority next."

"Also, regarding Ning Chen."

Liu Ju Zhiguo paused, and finally shook his head.

"It is basically confirmed that he must be secretly investigating the incident from two years ago on his own."

"For these two years, we thought he had moved past that tragedy, but now it seems that in these two years, he must have done quite a lot of things behind the scenes."

"Regardless of what plans or goals he has."

"However, he is just a commoner. This should be our police force's battlefield, not his."

"In Dongguo, private detectives are originally prohibited. For someone like him to investigate privately, it is very easy to cross the legal boundaries."

"So next, we need to monitor Ning Chen's livestream content."

"Of course, do not notify the Shark official about this matter first. If he is just doing simple travel check-ins next, then of course there is no problem."

"But once he exhibits behavior that crosses the line, we must stop him immediately. Do you understand what I am saying?"

After Liu Ju Zhiguo finished speaking, he looked at everyone.

The dozen or so people present all lowered their heads.

Their hearts felt very bitter.

They all understood why Liu Ju Zhiguo said this.

Zhao Mengmeng and Si Shiya, after graduating from the police academy, joined the police station. At that time, Liu Zhiguo was not yet the director, and the two girls were entrusted to him to mentor.

In effect, he was the Master of these two Misses.

Having raised them along the way, three years ago Liu Zhiguo was promoted to Bureau Chief, and the two Misses officially graduated from their training, becoming outstanding police flowers within the bureau.

As for their bond, the Master, Bureau Chief Liu, had a deep affection for Si Shiya.

Two years ago, when Si Shiya made the ultimate sacrifice, Bureau Chief Liu burned with rage, willing to pay any price to seal all entry and exit channels of Donghai and bring the culprit to justice, even going so far as to confront the provincial department.

Two years have passed.

Now, Ning Chen, Si Shiya's former fiancé, is actually investigating the matter behind the scenes.

Those who work in the police naturally understand.

What Ning Chen intends to do.

But it is far too unrealistic...

After all, he is merely a commoner; this, after all, is not his battlefield.

Moreover, as the Bureau Chief said, his private investigation easily risks violating the law.

Even if he could deceive the heavens and slip through, what then?

The major case from two years ago, after two years of settling, has revealed through internal channels that the gang behind those bandits was not a simple drug crime syndicate.

It is very likely a large-scale transnational criminal organization.

The entanglements within are too complex.

If Ning Chen is allowed to continue like this.

Once the criminal organization behind them notices and targets him.

Those desperate men could do anything; at that time, Ning Chen's life could be lost because of this.

It is not that the police fear such criminal organizations.

In fact, every member of the Donghai City Bureau would love to tear the criminal organization behind them limb from limb!

To avenge their fallen comrade!

But before everything comes to light, Ning Chen's actions will only bring life-threatening danger upon himself.

Shiya has already made the ultimate sacrifice.

The police cannot let the family of a martyr face danger again.

Even though the two of them never got the chance to marry back then...

"Mengmeng, are you sure that several people, together with you, will monitor Ning Chen's live stream around the clock, twenty-four hours a day without interruption, starting today? You must heighten your vigilance and prevent trouble before it arises. Do you understand?" Bureau Chief Liu Zhiguo said.

"Understood!" Zhao Mengmeng stood up and said.

A meeting.

Caused the Donghai City Bureau to miss an issue that would originally have demanded their high attention.
