Chapter 120: With No Respect

~7 min read 1,208 words

"Elemental Hero Prism Man?"

Amidst Mori Shima's confused gaze, a warrior composed entirely of mirror stone appeared on Tenjo Hikari's field, shimmering with light.

Elemental Hero Prism Man, Level 4, Light Attribute, Warrior Type, ATK 1700.

"What kind of monster is this?" Mori Shima muttered to himself, puzzled.

Elemental Hero is a very "common" deck.

So common that virtually anyone would recognize the monster cards in it.

Created around the theme of American heroes, this deck is not only cheap but also produced in massive quantities, and with numerous fusion variants, it's extremely popular among children.

Yet, the flip side of being common is "plainness."

On the market, Elemental Hero is a weak deck.

Its monsters have low ATK and mostly lack effects, so virtually no professional duelist uses them.

Mori Shima remembered that once, a professional duelist used an Elemental Hero deck, only to face Kaiba Seto and get crushed by Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon—afterward, he lost his mind, abandoned dueling, and became a paparazzo.

There shouldn't be a card like this in the Hero deck, right?

He watched the monster warily, ready to activate his face-down card at any moment.

"Heh, before using him, I still need to play another card." Tenjo Hikari casually revealed another card from his right hand, "Normal Magic, Shadow Fusion."

Fusion!

Mori Shima's gaze snapped to the card.

As Tenjo Hikari moved, countless purple lines behind him began to spin, then formed a massive void.

"Shadow Fusion is a fusion card exclusive to Shadow Imprisoned monsters. It allows you to send monsters from your hand and field to the graveyard to perform a fusion summon."

"But—if your opponent has a monster specially summoned from the Extra Deck, Shadow Fusion can instead choose a monster from your deck for fusion summoning!"

"What!" Mori Shima's eyes narrowed sharply, "Is this a deck fusion like Future Fusion!?"

In this world, because Future Fusion exists, deck fusion isn't entirely unimaginable—but Future Fusion is an ultra-rare card. Under these circumstances, any other "deck fusion" is a massive boost for a duelist—you have one more card than others, so fusion becomes easier, making you stronger!

Every duelist understands this!

"Fusion materials: one 【Shadow Imprisoned】 monster and one Dark Attribute monster. I send Shadow Imprisoned Falcon from my deck and Fusion Curse Beast - Dark from my deck to the graveyard!"

"Whoa..." Even before combat began, Mori Shima felt inexplicably at a disadvantage.

"Listen to the voice of the gods!"

"Fusion Summon!"

"Descend, Neo-Spacian Mithra!"

A green-haired mage, riding a flying dragon, smashed through the wall and soared onto the field.

Divine Shadow Imprisoned Midrash, Level 5, Dark Attribute, Spellcaster Type, ATK 2200.

"Due to the activation of this magic card, I recover 500 Life Points."

Mori Shima LP: 4500 → 5000.

"Divine Shadow Imprisoned Midrash... Professor said your ace and spirit..." Mori Shima, seeing the monster, felt less unfamiliar, "It has powerful effects: negates special summons, cannot be destroyed by opponent's effects, and recovers Shadow Imprisoned spell and trap cards..."

"But!" he continued, "This monster's negation of special summons applies to both players—meaning, after you special summon this monster, you can only special summon one more monster!"

He then smiled: "So, students are students—you're still a rookie. The world beyond school is vast!"

"What you've done is digging your own grave!"

"Heh, senior, the world is very vast!"

"!!?" Mori Shima's smile froze.

"Activate the effect of Elemental Hero Prism Man! Once per turn, you may reveal one fusion monster card from your Extra Deck, and send one monster card from your deck matching a fusion material listed on that card to the graveyard to activate it."

"Until the end of this turn, this card's name becomes the same as the monster sent to the graveyard!"

"Huh?"

Mori Shima's expression changed instantly.

"This monster can substitute for any fusion material!?"

That's slightly exaggerated, but to him, Prism Man was exactly that.

"I reveal Electronic Twin Dragon from my Extra Deck, and send Electronic Dragon from my deck to the graveyard! Until the end of this turn, Prism Man's name becomes 【Electronic Dragon】!"

Electronic Dragon automatically popped out of his deck and entered the graveyard. On the field, Prism Man's body glowed with reflection, and the silhouette of Electronic Dragon appeared on his armor.

"Electronic... Electronic Dragon!" Mori Shima's face paled.

"What's wrong with Electronic Dragon?" Alliance Doctor asked, confused.

"Fusion without fusion? Merging? Heh, I respect you as a senior—because you're a graduate of Duel Academy, I'll call you senior! But if I weren't so polite, if I didn't give you respect, I'd call you trash!"

"I send Electronic Dragon on my field and your Machine-type monster to the graveyard!"

"Come forth, Fusion!"

Hybrid Fortress Dragon, descend!

As Tenjo Hikari roared, a massive mechanical dragon swept across the field, its five or six dragon heads rolling, gathering up mechanical debris along the way and attaching it to itself, finally transforming into a colossal mechanical dragon made of tires.

Hybrid Fortress Dragon, Level 8, Dark Attribute, Machine Type, ATK?

"Damn, I didn't think it could be done this way..." Mori Shima's face darkened. Professor's data mentioned this monster—it could directly send Electronic Dragon and a Machine-type monster from the field to the graveyard for a special summon from the Extra Deck. He just never imagined Tenjo Hikari could summon this card without using Electronic Dragon.

"Hybrid Fortress Dragon's ATK is 1000 per material. Two materials mean 2000," Tierra said, eyes gleaming as she watched the giant machine dragon.

"Two thousand versus two thousand two—if this attack lands, Mori Shima's LP will drop to just 800!" Alliance Doctor quickly calculated, tense.

"But if this attack succeeds, the opponent can only use Demon's Declaration once next turn," Tierra added.

Tenjo Hikari nodded.

Though he always pursued one-hit KOs, this was clearly the moment to prioritize reducing Life Points.

"Battle! Use Hybrid Fortress Dragon for a direct attack—"

"Tch! I activate my face-down card: Sacred Protection—Mirror Force!!"

Mori Shima shouted: "I won't let you deal damage so easily!"

The laser blast from Hybrid Fortress Dragon was blocked by a suddenly appearing mirror, then reflected back, striking the dragon itself—next instant, it exploded into fragments.

Tenjo Hikari shielded his face from the shockwave, then shouted again: "Midrash cannot be destroyed by opponent's effects! Battle Phase continues! Midrash, attack directly!"

Midrash raised her staff; the flying dragon she controlled whipped forward, slamming into Mori Shima and erupting in thick smoke.

Mori Shima LP: 5000 → 2800.

"Cover one card, end turn." Seeing this, Tenjo Hikari drew a card and covered it on the field.

"Captain Mori Shima?!" Alliance Doctor cried out anxiously.

If the captain falls, won't I get arrested?!

He watched the smoke intently, and as it slowly cleared, a figure gradually emerged—relief washed over him.

"Hehehehe..." Mori Shima stepped out slowly, electricity crackling across his face and body, "My turn... Draw!"

As he drew, the surrounding spirits—still barely alive—let out even more agonized wails, sparks popping everywhere, heartbreaking.

"Watch out, Tenjo Hikari—it's coming!" Tierra warned sharply.

No more cup matches, I'm done. Got beaten so badly I've lost my temper. This cup's Hundred-Man Commander is still pretty strong.
