Chapter 131: The Traits of Elemental Heroes

"Who is that person?"

"Seems like a new student? Probably came to the island for a visit on this occasion."

Not long after, Judai and Sanzawa returned to the Fusion Department, waved at Tenjo Kou from afar, then curiously turned their gaze toward Kaito and Ai De on the open ground.

"He actually challenged Kaito to a duel?" Judai smiled, "Kaito's really strong, you know!"

"Strange… that new student feels oddly familiar." Sanzawa rubbed his chin, hesitating.

"Huh? I feel like… I've seen him before?" Wan Wan Zhangmu squinted at Ai De, straining to recall.

"It's Ai De Phoenix." Tenjo Kou, unable to place them despite listening to their discussion, spoke plainly without hiding it.

"Ai De… Phoenix?" Wan Wan Zhangmu's eyes widened in surprise, "Wait—that's not… a professional duelist?!"

"What? A professional duelist?!"

"Not just any professional duelist—he's a star-level professional duelist!"

The group gradually realized this duel was far from a simple "new student exchange."

On the other side, Tenjo Kou was also recalling details about Ai De.

Ai De Phoenix, the closest thing to a second male lead in the original story arc of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, was the definitive second lead of his arc; in his storyline, his dueling skill and resolve overshadowed every other character, and to some extent even surpassed Judai himself.

He debuted using cards casually bought from a card shop and held his own against Judai in a fierce battle. He reappeared just a few turns later to decisively defeat Marufuji Ryo, the undefeated duelist of Duel Academy. In his third appearance, he faced Judai directly at Duel Academy and triumphed over the original protagonist.

Only after Judai obtained the brand-new "Neo-Space" series did he manage to defeat Ai De with a new deck—and even then, Ai De remained effortlessly cool, repeatedly defeating powerful opponents; his tag duel with Judai even earned Judai's exclamation: "No wonder it's Ai De—he's too strong!"

Moreover, from a real-card perspective, Ai De was almost always the savior of the "Hero" archetype—from Destiny Hero to Phantom Hero to Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer … many Hero decks required his cards just to stand a chance. His boss monster, Destiny Hero Blood Demon D, was a card with immense pressure; even in the environment before Tenjo Kou's arrival, just one Blood Demon D on the field was enough to give most decks serious headaches.

The only problem? Since obtaining Destiny Hero Blood Demon D, this high-profile duelist had never won another duel.

Not only that—he was also one of the rare characters from the original series to appear in Yu-Gi-Oh! A5…

Tenjo Kou frowned.

What would Ai De be like in this world?

"I set my Truckroid in defense position, cover one card, end my turn!"

A truck resembling a Disney animated film appeared on the field, rearing up and punching the ground with its two front wheels.

Truckroid, Level 4, Earth Attribute, Machine Type, DEF 2000.

Kaito covered a card, then dramatically shook his cloak—

After Shinrin Yō, Yamaguchi, and others had repeatedly failed, Kaito had become the sole remaining face of the Fusion Department. Now, beyond his purple uniform, he wore a large, flowing robe. Though short in stature, the ensemble gave him an imposing presence—especially since his outfit inexplicably bore a medal, making him look like some kind of commander.

As Kaito ended his turn, everyone swallowed hard and turned to Ai De Phoenix.

This was a professional duelist!

Kaito had already dueled professionals before Kaiser officially entered the pro circuit!

At the same time, they were intensely curious: what deck would the professional duelist Ai De Phoenix use?

Ai De glanced at Kaito's field and frowned in confusion.

Is this it?

Is this really what made Akuma Zero Wang anxious?

Did Zhai Wang get fooled?

Pondering, he drew a card, glanced at it, and said: "I activate the spell card E-Emergency Call."

"Huh?!" Judai stared at the card, stunned at first, then burst into excitement, "It's the Hero!"

"It's the Hero?!" Wan Wan Zhangmu uncrossed his arms, genuinely surprised.

"If it's the Hero deck, then maybe it won't be too hard for Kaito," Sanzawa remarked.

"Oh!! It's the Hero deck?!" Kaito recognized the card instantly, "Haha, new guy, you picked the right person to duel me! I know the Hero deck inside out!"

As he spoke, he slightly tilted his nose upward.

Life in the Fusion Department had actually been good for him. Though timid, no one dared bully him anymore—and given the treatment he received, ordinary Fusion Army soldiers wouldn't dare say a harsh word to him. Beyond that, his dueling skill far surpassed that of ordinary students, so he thrived… even grew a bit arrogant.

Of course, as Judai's subordinate, saying he knew the Hero deck wasn't pure bluff.

Ai De lowered his head, studying his deck.

This matches the intel—apparently Tenjo Kou's club understands all Fusion types thoroughly.

"With the effect of E-Emergency Call, I can add 1 Elemental Hero from my deck to my hand. I add Elemental Hero Sky Glaive to my hand."

"What?!" Judai exclaimed, "It's Sky Glaive!!"

"What's so special? Is that Hero really strong?" Wan Wan Zhangmu turned to Sanzawa, who shook his head.

That's not a card available on the market?

"Spell Card, Fusion! Fusion summon using Yu Yi Ren and Hot-Blooded Lady from my hand!" Ai De casually revealed two cards and sent them to the graveyard.

"Fusion Summon: Elemental Hero Phoenix Man."

A muscular, dual-winged Hero, unlike Flame Wingman, descended with a howling gale, looking down disdainfully at the tiny truck.

Elemental Hero Phoenix Man, Level 6, Fire Attribute, Warrior Type, ATK 2100.

"Phoenix Man?" Wan Wan Zhangmu asked, puzzled, "Shouldn't it be Flame Wingman?"

"Elemental Heroes can fuse the same materials into different Fusion Monsters…" Sanzawa explained, then looked at Judai.

"Oh, so that's how it works?"

"Wait, aren't you using the Hero deck?" Wan Wan Zhangmu sighed, turning to Tenjo Kou, "Tenjo, explain this."

Tenjo Kou nodded: "Yu Yi Ren and Hot-Blooded Lady can fuse into many Elemental Heroes—besides the common Flame Wingman, there's Phoenix Man, which cannot be destroyed by battle; then there's Evil Hearted Inferno Wing Demon, and depending on need, you can also fuse Wind-attribute Cyclone Man and Fire-attribute Nova Master… Judai, you have all these cards, right?"

"Eh? Eh? Eh? So that's how it works?"

If he could fuse, he'd always prioritize Flame Wingman!

"So… this monster can't be destroyed by battle?" Sanzawa and Wan Wan Zhangmu, used to Judai's unreliability, turned to the duel and said, "This effect lacks damage output compared to Flame Wingman, but it's definitely more defensive."

"No, the real point is the other card…" Judai, sensing their shift in topic, coughed politely and said, "It's Sky Glaive!"
