Chapter 196: The Card That Should Never Have Been Used
"Battle! Blue-Eyes White Dragon, attack the Wolf King! Destroy! Explosive Wind Burst!"
The Blue-Eyes White Dragon opened its mouth, gathering a storm, then unleashed a searing stream of light—within an instant, the three-headed demon hound was obliterated.
"Umm————"
Jack LP: 4000→3400.
"At this moment, the Wolf King's effect activates: when this card is destroyed, it reduces the attack points of one monster on the field!"
A wolf from the Netherworld emerged from a fissure and bit fiercely into the body of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
Blue-Eyes White Dragon, ATK 3000→600.
"Heh heh... lowered the Blue-Eyes' attack, huh?" Kaiba glanced at the Blue-Eyes still flying beside him, now marked with a wolf imprint, and smiled faintly. He face-down a card. "I set one card, end my turn."
Hum—
The two sped past on the track, just then passing a rescue team. Kaiba glanced sideways and saw Angma, shouting and demanding another duel with Jack. He sneered.
Incompetent duelist.
"My turn—" Jack drew sharply. He felt his breath grow slightly labored, yet at the same time, excitement surged!
"I activate my face-down card: Trap Card Falling Star. This card allows me to special summon one Synchro Monster from my graveyard, reducing its defense to 0 and changing it to defense position. Monsters revived this way lose their effects and cannot change their battle position. I revive the Wolf King!"
Wolf King, Wolf Star, DEF 1500→0, LV6→5.
"Normal summon: Level 3 Tuner monster, Dark Resonator!"
"Synchro tune: Level 3 Dark Resonator and Level 5 Wolf King, Wolf Star!"
"The shock of kings is revealed here—witness the thunderous power of heaven and earth!"
Synchro Summon!
My soul!
Crimson Lotus Dragon!
Jack clenched his right fist and slammed it against his chest. Flames erupted from his body, and from the fire emerged a brand-new dragon—similar to the Crimson Lotus Dragon, yet subtly different.
Crimson Lotus Dragon, Level 8, Dark Attribute, Dragon Type, ATK 3000!
"Finally! Jack's true trump card, the symbol of his soul—the Crimson Lotus Dragon!"
"Oh? A Level 8 Dark Dragon with 3000 ATK?"
Kaiba stared at the monster, showing not a trace of fear: "Then come on!"
"……I activate the spell card, Monster Reborn, to special summon the Wolf King from my graveyard!" Jack, sweat dripping, watched Kaiba's casual demeanor and played a new spell card.
"I revive the Wolf King!"
The three-headed hound returned for the third time. Kaiba glanced at it, utterly indifferent.
"Ooooh! No wonder it's Jack!! If this attack lands, that's 4800 damage total—that's our king's victory!!"
MC shouted in excitement, and the audience echoed his fervor.
But—would it really be that simple?
"Battle! Crimson Lotus Dragon, attack the Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"
"Absolute Power Suppression!"
The Crimson Lotus Dragon roared and charged at the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, slamming its claw down—shattering the Blue-Eyes.
Kaiba Seto LP: 4000→1600.
Due to this attack, Kaiba Seto lost one Speed Counter, and his vehicle slowed abruptly.
"Next... Wolf King's direct attack!!"
"Foolish!" Kaiba Seto shouted back, "Activate my face-down card: Counter Gate!"
"Can only be activated when the opponent declares a direct attack. That attack is negated, and you draw one card from your deck. If it's a monster, you can normally summon that monster in face-up attack position—"
"Stop your attack, mad dog."
He shouted—and just as the Wolf King's three mouths were about to bite, it froze. Simultaneously, Kaiba drew a card from his deck.
He didn't even look at it—he simply flipped it face-up toward his opponent.
"The card I drew? Of course—it's the Blue-Eyes White Dragon!!"
"Umm..." Jack's expression darkened. He halted his attack.
"End... turn." He continued, "At the end phase, Crimson Lotus Dragon's effect activates: it destroys all monsters on my field that did not declare an attack. But the Wolf King already declared, so it won't be destroyed."
"Absolute power? Heh heh..." Kaiba drew a card.
His hand was extremely rich in resources.
"I reveal one Blue-Eyes White Dragon from my hand to special summon this—my new servant, Blue-Eyes Sub-White Dragon!"
A slimmer, sharper silver-white dragon materialized instantly on the field.
Blue-Eyes Sub-White Dragon, Level 8, Light Attribute, Dragon Type, ATK 3000!
"Wh-what?! A monster with 3000 ATK, no tribute, no tuning—just appearing?!" MC gasped.
"This card can special summon a Blue-Eyes White Dragon from your hand by revealing one. As long as this card remains on the field or in the graveyard, its name is treated as Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"
"Ugh!" Jack felt the dragon's oppressive aura, his breathing quickening. "But its attack is the same!"
"You think identical attack means it's equal to the Blue-Eyes? Foolish—activate spell card: Explosive Wind Burst!"
"A card with the same name as the Blue-Eyes White Dragon's technique?!" an audience member exclaimed.
"When you have a Blue-Eyes White Dragon on your field, destroy all monster cards on your opponent's field!"
"What?!" MC shouted, "What an absurdly brutal effect—"
"It's not that simple," Jack said, as the Blue-Eyes White Dragon began gathering energy again. He immediately activated his face-down trap. "I activate my face-down card: Starlight Highway!"
"Huh?" Kaiba blinked.
"When a spell, trap, or monster effect would destroy two or more of your cards, negate that effect and destroy it. Then, you can special summon one Stardust Dragon from your Extra Deck!"
A strange cry echoed as a bizarre, alien-shaped dragon, riding the stars, flew down from the sky and canceled the Blue-Eyes' wind blast.
Stardust Dragon, Level 8, Wind Attribute, Dragon Type, ATK 2500.
Then, the magnificent dragon spread its wings, scattering faint star dust across the track.
"That monster?" Kaiba frowned, studying the card.
"Starlight Highway?" You Wu watched the screen above, and upon seeing the card, muttered under his breath, "Isn't that Yu Xing's card?"
"How could this... Jack?" Lin sensed something.
Jack exhaled in relief.
Activating this card had saved him from the Blue-Eyes' destruction, and with Stardust Dragon's protection...
"Pathetic!"
At that moment, Kaiba's emotions shifted visibly for the first time. He adjusted his D-Wheel, standing atop it, pointing at Jack: "Pathetic! You dare use that card to duel me?"
"What?!" Jack froze, startled by those words.
"Stupid!" Kaiba spat again. "I'm disappointed. I never imagined I'd let my Blue-Eyes fight someone like you—you're worse than a first-year student who only uses Fusion!"
Even as he spoke, every duelist in the crowd turned their gaze toward Tiancheng Guang.
Tiancheng Guang, who had planned to slack off today, was utterly baffled.
What?
But in truth, he understood—and every duelist present understood: for Kaiba to say such a thing meant he had truly noticed this person. He had, in fact, granted this duelist a measure of Kaiba's approval.
"What did you say?!" Jack roared.
"You're afraid—afraid not of the Blue-Eyes, but of—"
"Failure!"
"That card isn't one you should ever use!"
