Chapter 222: Easily Changing the Battle Situation

Tenjo Hikari's turn.

He placed the drawn card in his left hand, idly shuffling a round while reconfirming the field state.

His own Life Points are 4100; his opponent's are 15600.

On the opponent's field: two face-down cards, one Continuous Trap Card—Amazon's Audience Chamber, one Amazon Empress, one Amazon Pet Tiger-Lion, and three Disrupt Tokens.

With the Amazon Empress on the field, all Amazon cards on the field cannot be destroyed by battle or effects and gain the Guard effect; with the Amazon Pet Tiger-Lion on the field, no monster except itself can be attacked.

On his own field: one Level 1 Infernal Guardian Dragon.

"What's wrong, Tenjo Hikari? If you want to give up, now's the time to do it," Gloria crossed her arms and laughed twice.

"Indeed, a Level 1 monster with 0 ATK—your teammate gave you absolutely no sufficient fusion materials."

"Your deck has far more fusion cards than fusion material cards; you can't easily resolve our current field state, can you?"

Although the Monster Zone is sealed, the Taylor sisters' field is incredibly stable; with so many cards to face, what use are six empty cards?

Tenjo Hikari stopped shuffling.

"Give up? Too naive. Just one card can change the current situation."

"What did you say?" The Taylor sisters spoke simultaneously.

"Activate the Spell Card—Sudden Mutation."

"Oh oh oh! It's Sudden Mutation!"

"I haven't seen Hikari-nii use this in ages."

"Yes, yes!"

Since acquiring Divine Yingyi, Tenjo Hikari's deck has gained significantly improved synergy, but even so, his deck still remains at the level of "draw one, play one."

Cards like Sudden Mutation, which are virtually universal for him, he wouldn't waste.

"Sudden Mutation…" Gloria frowned, as if recalling something.

On the other side, Grace lightly covered her lips with her right hand and whispered, "Oh no, Gloria-nee, it's Thousand-Eyed Offering God!"

"Huh!" Gloria, reminded by her sister, remembered.

"Release one monster on the field; from the Extra Deck, Special Summon one Fusion Monster of the same Level—I send the Level 1 Infernal Guardian Dragon to the Graveyard, and Special Summon!"

"The legend among legends."

"The demon among demons."

"Level 1, Thousand-Eyed Offering God!"

The demon emerged from the darkness, opening one eye after another, staring at the opponent; the two girls instinctively rubbed their arms, breaking out in goosebumps.

Thousand-Eyed Offering God, Level 1, Dark Attribute, Spellcaster Type, ATK 0.

Although this wasn't the first time they'd seen Tenjo Hikari use such a gloomy card, many second-year students couldn't help cheering.

Tenjo Hikari had used this card to defeat numerous powerful opponents—it was a shared memory among second-year students—and more importantly, this single card could perfectly resolve the entire field!

First, its ATK is 0, so it triggers none of Amazon's Audience Chamber's effects and cannot restore Life Points.

Second, this card can directly turn the opponent's monsters into Equip Cards and "absorb" them; whether it's the Empress or the Pet Tiger-Lion, their effects are meaningless against it.

Third, as long as this card is on the field, neither player's monsters except this one can attack.

In other words, as long as this card is on the field, the Amazons' signature tactic of trading Life Points for cards becomes impossible; no matter how high the Taylor sisters' Life Points, victory comes simply by attacking them one by one.

"Oh no…"

Grace Taylor couldn't help whispering.

Since it became an Equip Card, the Amazon Empress's effect cannot activate—its effect is that when it leaves the field due to the opponent's action, it Special Summons the Amazon Queen.

But now that the Amazon Empress has become an Equip Card, it is no longer in "Fusion Summoned" state!

"Activate Thousand-Eyed Offering God's effect: equip one of your opponent's monsters as an Equip Card—I choose… the Amazon Empress!"

The countless eyes of Thousand-Eyed Offering God locked onto the Amazon Empress; overwhelmed by their gaze, she dropped her sword in fear. Yet no matter how terrified she was, when purple light struck her, she dissolved into nothingness and merged into Thousand-Eyed Offering God's body.

"Thousand-Eyed Offering God gains the ATK and DEF of the equipped card."

Thousand-Eyed Offering God, ATK: 0 → 2800.

"Huh…" The Taylor sisters gasped in unison.

"Battle: Thousand-Eyed Offering God attacks the Amazon Pet Tiger-Lion."

The countless eyes of Thousand-Eyed Offering God glowed purple again; the fierce Tiger-Lion crouched low, its fur bristling, growling.

"It's not that simple!"

"Activate the face-down card! Amazon's Secret Hot Spring!"

As she activated it, a card depicting Amazon warrior women soaking in a hot spring appeared before her.

"Once per turn, when there are Amazon monsters on our field… restore battle damage we've taken!"

"Then, the monster must be destroyed."

Boom!

The Pet Tiger-Lion on the Taylor sisters' field was destroyed—but their Life Points remained unaffected.

"Battle phase ends."

So it's a trap like this—I thought it was something like a crossbow unit.

Tenjo Hikari glanced at his hand: "I activate the Continuous Spell Card—Bright Fusion."

"Damn… since the Amazon monsters were destroyed, this guy can now fuse freely without being drained of Life Points!" Gloria muttered.

"Hmph, don't think me that foolish."

"!??"

"If you can only attack with one monster, then use only that one." Tenjo Hikari inserted the Continuous Spell Card into the slot. "When Bright Fusion activates, you can send fusion materials from your deck to the Graveyard to Special Summon one Gem-Knight Fusion Monster with 0 ATK and 0 DEF."

"Ah!" Grace was utterly stunned.

It bypassed Amazon's Audience Chamber's effect!

"I send Gem-Knight Lius and Gem-Knight Huang Bi from my deck to the Graveyard, and Fusion Summon!"

"Level 7, Thunder Bai Jing, Gem-Knight Light Prism!"

"Hmm…"

They knew this card all too well.

The Thunder-type form of Bai Jing Knight, Tenjo Hikari's field-clearing tool—but honestly, compared to XYZ Dragon Cannon, this card was clearly inferior. Still… now, there was no Amazon Empress on the field to defend.

"I discard from my hand—Gem-Knight Fusion—" Tenjo Hikari pulled out a Gem-Knight card and tossed it away. "Destroy Amazon's Audience Chamber."

Light Prism raised its shield; light refracted and shattered the Trap Card.

"So strong!"

"Too strong?!"

Some first-year students, new to dueling and having seen only one match, couldn't help exclaiming as they watched Tenjo Hikari dismantle the Taylor sisters' most troublesome field components with just two cards.

Although the opponent still had plenty of Life Points, the field state seemed to have reversed?

And this…

Was all because his teammate left him a single Level 1 monster!

"Sorry, Gloria-nee. When that Wan Wan Zhangmu revived its monster, I shouldn't have attacked."

Without a Level 1 material, Tenjo Hikari couldn't have used Sudden Mutation to Special Summon Thousand-Eyed Offering God.

"What are you talking about, Grace? The duel's become more interesting!" Gloria stared at her opponent, excited. "Come on, Tenjo Hikari, show me more of your fusions!"

Tenjo Hikari raised an eyebrow, glanced at them both, then calmly placed two cards into the face-down zone.

"Two cards face-down. End turn."

"What? That's it? Already?" Grace looked disappointed.

"Tch, do you think this tactic alone can beat us?!" Gloria's brow darkened with irritation.

Wan Wan Zhangmu examined Tenjo Hikari's face-down cards.

"Cool… Hikari, you actually have this card."

"It's a card I specifically added for team duels. If you want it, I'll trade you for B-Destroyer Dragon."

"Haha, Hikari, you're joking—no deal!"

Tenjo Hikari held A-Striker Core; Wan Wan Zhangmu held B-Destroyer Dragon and C-Shatterwing Dragon; neither had the third.

Otherwise, Wan Wan Zhangmu would've already fused ABC long ago and wouldn't be stuck using XYZ.

Wan Wan Zhangmu laughed heartily, relaxing considerably.

"Damn it, ignoring me—Draw!" Gloria, angered by Tenjo Hikari's silence, drew a card with force; upon seeing it, her fury instantly turned to a cold smirk. "Looks like luck's on my side."

She drew—

Amazon Archer!
