Chapter 36: Parasitic Fusion Parasite!

~8 min read 1,491 words

Two days later, the duel between Duel Academy and Heart Land Academy came to an end.

To everyone’s surprise, Duel Academy had achieved a clean sweep!

Yes, although the duelists Heart Land Academy sent out were people Tenjou Hikari didn't recognize at all—characters he had no impression of from either Z4 or A5, with generic hairstyles—they were still grade-level top students with more modern monsters. Yet, somehow, they hadn't won a single match.

Even excluding Kaiser and Tenjou Hikari, the second-year seniors had also defeated their opponents.

The second-year student’s winning method was a complete copy of Tenjou Hikari’s; he had filled his deck with cards like Book of Moon, letting the Heart Land second-year student enjoy the experience thoroughly.

"I didn't expect to lose again." Kokugawa Haruto had dueled Tenjou Hikari again today, and the result was another loss.

Thinking back to how even the seniors had lost, he couldn't help but sigh: "It seems there really is a clear gap in our skills?"

He scratched his head.

Since that day, Tenjou Hikari had sought out Kokugawa for a duel every day, and he never refused. On one hand, although he lost, he often lost at school anyway and didn't have a state of being invincible among his peers. On the other hand, in their world, dueling was far more recreational than practical—even though they had developed many outrageous technologies through dueling, they hadn't applied them elsewhere.

Moreover, dueling Tenjou Hikari didn't cause the physical fatigue or stinging pain that dueling spirits did. Since there was nothing to do in this Neo Domino City, and he could learn something from dueling Tenjou Hikari, he was naturally willing.

After three days of exchange duels, he could clearly feel that he was "smarter" than before. Upon returning to his own world, he would surely perform better.

Just as the two finished today's duel in the Neo Domino City duel arena, Flame Swordsman and Dark Flame Knight suddenly jumped out, standing on either side of Tenjou Hikari, giving Kokugawa Haruto a huge fright.

"My Lord, there's a situation!"

"My Lord, the atmosphere is wrong!"

"Whoa—what is that!" He was startled.

"Haruto, come here, get behind me—"

Tenjou Hikari had just shouted when he saw a pitch-black mass fly out from the shadows. Sensing danger, Tenjou Hikari performed a great leap, bright white armor manifested on his body, and he kicked the shadow.

"Whoa..." Kokugawa Haruto’s mouth hung open, feeling as if he were in a movie.

"What was that just now!?" He said, somewhat excited, "That was so cool—"

Tenjou Hikari didn't have the heart for that. He quickly pulled Kokugawa Haruto over, scanned his body, and then his eyes widened sharply. He ripped the card off his neck and slashed it across Kokugawa Haruto’s hand like a razor.

"Ah..." Kokugawa Haruto felt a sharp sting in his arm. When he regained his senses, he realized that, somehow, a bug that looked disgusting to the point of death had appeared on the ground!

"Captain!"

"Here!" Bai Jing’s massive form shielded Tenjou Hikari and the other, emitting a bright flash. Then, the red and black swordsmen swung their greatswords, hacking at the shadows.

A pile of eerie bugs was hacked out and burned to death. Both spirits looked pale, appearing quite nauseated.

The next second, with a thud-thud sound, a tall, giant creature slowly walked out of the darkness. It was covered in black fur, wore purple armor, had blood-red eyes, and was crawling with countless tiny, dense bugs that looked twisted and disgusting. Coupled with the faint black smoke rising from its body, it was visibly malicious.

"What's the situation? Who is this guy?" Kokugawa still hadn't grasped the situation.

"I... am... the proud Beast Warrior, here... to confiscate... your... life..." the bear spoke in a human voice.

"Is it Gladiator Beast Eye-Dito?" Flame Swordsman frowned, "How... did it become like this?"

In the Sanctuary of the Warriors, he had seen the spirit of Eye-Dito. Although it was a Beast-Warrior type, Lord Black Luster Soldier didn't mind him following and learning. Although this might not be the same spirit, it still made him feel uncomfortable.

They had been colleagues, after all.

"I'm afraid it's been mentally controlled." Tenjou Hikari looked at the disgusting bugs on its body, curled his lip, and then lowered his voice, "I think that egghead has nothing better to do and wants to retire early."

Tenjou Hikari didn't know that Akaba Reo was Director Himaru’s "right-hand man," but Tenjou Hikari recognized this damn parasite.

Half of Tenjou Hikari’s malice toward "Yu-Gi-Oh! A5" stemmed from this "Parasitic Fusion Parasite."

It could alter the thoughts of the parasitized, brainwashing them into becoming obedient slaves.

The reason Tenjou Hikari had absolutely no favorability toward Akaba Reo was that in the original work, that egghead claimed to be a daughter-con, yet he insisted on using this thing to brainwash his own daughter.

Can you call that a normal person? Isn't that a complete, obsessed lunatic?

He hadn't heard of anyone named Serena in this world and was still wondering why that egghead was causing trouble. Besides, since he didn't have a daughter anymore, it seemed he wouldn't need to use this thing. Who would have thought he was applying this technology to spirits?

Not only that...

He looked at the wisps of black energy rising from Eye-Dito, identical to what had been on Bai Jing!

This egghead really was using everything. This must be "Shadow," right?

"Come, human, duel!" Eye-Dito said slowly after being stung by the parasite.

"Hmm... fine." Tenjou Hikari’s left hand shook, and his Duel Disk unfolded with a sound, "Gladiator Beasts, I quite like them."

A Fusion deck that doesn't need Fusion cards, Gladiator Beasts!

He had long wanted to reach this higher realm of Fusion!

"Flame Sword, Dark Flame, you two watch our surroundings. Don't let any bugs get through."

"Yes!" "Understood!"

"Duel!" x2.

"I'll go first—" Eye-Dito drew a card and glanced at his hand, "I summon Gladiator Beast Respite in Defense Position."

A giant heavy-armored rhino warrior appeared on the field in defense.

Gladiator Beast Respite, Level 4, Earth, Rock-Type, DEF 2100.

"I set two cards and end my turn."

"A plain turn, huh." Kokugawa Haruto had originally wanted to touch Flame Swordsman and Dark Flame’s swords, but seeing the duel had started, he focused his attention on the duel.

Having dueled Tenjou Hikari several times, he knew Tenjou Hikari’s level. With this kind of opening, it felt like there was basically no defense.

"My turn—" Tenjou Hikari scanned his hand, "Magic card, Instant Fusion. I pay 1000 Life Points to Special Summon Thousand-Eyes Restrict!"

Tenjou Hikari LP: 4000 -> 3000

The evil god of a thousand eyes appeared after a long absence.

"I activate my face-down card. Gladiator Beast's Charge. I can target up to the number of Gladiator Beast types I control on the field among face-up cards on the field. Destroy those cards." Eye-Dito gently raised his bear paw and held up one finger, "Destroy, Thousand-Eyes Restrict."

"Woom-gah!" The rhino’s eyes suddenly turned red, followed by a violent charge that forcibly rammed the evil god to death.

"Oh no—" Kokugawa Haruto finally came to his senses. The opponent wasn't him; how could they not have any interference?

"The Fusion monster Special Summoned at the cost of 1000 Life Points fell instantly. Tenjou, be careful! That thing gives me a very bad feeling."

On this point, Tenjou Hikari was clearer than Kokugawa Haruto, but he didn't speak. Instead, he nodded and continued his play: "In that case, I activate the effect of Thunder Dragon in my hand, discarding it to add up to two Thunder Dragons from my deck to my hand.

I add the second Thunder Dragon to my hand, then activate the effect of the second Thunder Dragon, discarding it to add the third Thunder Dragon from my deck to my hand."

Ever since obtaining Gem-Knight, Tenjou Hikari had stuffed Thunder Dragons into his deck. After dueling the Vampire Lady, he had obtained new cards, just never had a chance to use them.

"What's the point of this operation?" Kokugawa Haruto asked suspiciously from the side.

Wouldn't it be better to just take two? Now he had thrown away an extra one instead.

"Of course there is, Haruto—I activate the Fusion magic, Thunder Dragon Fusion!" Tenjou Hikari pointed at the ground and shouted, "Thunder Dragon Fusion is a Fusion magic exclusive to the Thunder-Type. By returning Thunder-Type monsters from the field, graveyard, or banished zone to the deck, I can Fusion Summon 1 Thunder-Type Fusion monster!"

Kokugawa Haruto’s mouth hung open. You can even recycle Fusion!?

That’s right, this is deck-returning Fusion!

"Witness my brand new power—" He clapped his hands together.

"Fusion Summon, Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon!"

Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon, Level 7, Light, Thunder-Type, ATK 2800.

This attack power was already quite impressive!
