Chapter 243: Undead Submission, The God Eddard

~20 min read 3,947 words

The Wall is one hundred leagues long and seven hundred feet high, with a total of nineteen castles along its line.

The snow fell heavier and heavier; even the wildlings and the Northmen had never seen such heavy snow, the cold piercing through to the marrow.

Daenerys wore a white lion-skin cloak; it was a gift given to Daenerys by Khal Drogo on the Dothraki Sea.

Daenerys stood on the Wall as goose-feather snowflakes fell in succession; the undead army of the North was marching in the ice and snow, and she said dejectedly, "Khal Drogo gave me this lion-skin cloak, but he has become the Night King's Death Knight, along with my brothers Rhaegar and Viserys."

Eddard said, "Daenerys, you may rest assured; as long as we defeat the Night King, Khal Drogo, Prince Rhaegar, and Viserys will all regain their self-awareness, and they will remember those who loved them, as well as those they loved."

Six magic dragons, the flying wolves, the koi, the Eagle Eye, Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion circled above the Wall; the fortress south of the Wall was the Shadow Tower.

The Night King screamed repeatedly, merging with the Balrog inside the sword; now, Eddard's sword Ice had become the "Concerto of Ice and Fire."

Eddard had no choice but to take the injured Balrog and store it inside the sword Ice.

After the undead army marched south to attack the Wall, the weather grew increasingly cold; people were still arguing to this day whether the undead liked to appear during cold weather, or if the appearance of the undead brought the cold. Even the Maesters of the Citadel could not answer this question.

Wights rode frost dragons and ice bats, landing on the ramparts in swarms; the Night's Watch, the Winter Wolves, and the soldiers of the Golden Company fought back with fire arrows and fire guns to resist the wights.

However, the plague wights on the ramparts continued to increase; some of these plague wights had jumped down from the backs of frost dragons and ice bats, while more were human defenders killed by the frost of the frost dragons and turned into plague wights.

Eddard said, "The Wolfswood, the Kingswood, the Rainwood, and the Vale shall be left for the Children of the Forest to inhabit."

The Bat Enchantress was leading the undead army to attack Castle Black.

Eddard stroked his sword Ice and summoned the Night King.

Eddard said, "The Children of the Forest will bring nurses to heal them and transfer those wounded to the manors in the Gift for settlement."

Daenerys raised one eyebrow.

The plague wights on the backs of the ice bats also jumped off the bats' backs and landed on the Wall.

The undead did not need sleep, did not need to eat or drink; they were perfect slaves who could fight at their work posts forever, which could save Eddard production costs.

Eddard rode on the back of a magic dragon flying wolf, holding his sword Ice high; seven-colored rainbow light instantly shone over Castle Black, and the little bats died screaming, turning into ashes.

The Children of the Forest had placed teleportation stones in every castle, allowing Eddard to take the magic dragons in his possession and pass through spatial teleportation; they utilized the teleportation stones to go directly from Eastwatch to the Shadow Tower.

Jon worriedly said, "This castle flies higher than the Wall; will the Night King use the moving castle to fly directly over the Wall?"

The human defenders finally repelled the enemies at the Shadow Tower; however, many soldiers had been infected with the plague.

The Night King was furious; he kicked the Corpse Queen Serxi aside and drew his Death Sword.

Below the Wall, the Undertaker's funeral carriage team was constantly resurrecting wights and stitched monsters. The stitched monsters and wights were fiercely attacking the gate tunnel of the Shadow Tower below the Wall.

On the Wall, the Three-Eyed Crow told Eddard.

Daenerys hugged Khal Drogo, "My sun-and-stars, you have finally awakened. It was I who wrongly trusted the witch back then, and that is what caused the death of my sun-and-stars."

However, the ice of the frost dragons still had astonishing attack power.

Eddard extended his finger, and the surrounding fire elements trembled; Meraxes, Vhagar, and Balerion, along with the Conqueror Aegon, Visenya, and Rhaenys on their backs, began to burn.

If it were a human army, they would be terrified and hesitate when encountering landmines, but the undead knew no fear; they continued to advance.

The ice bats and wights retreating from the major castles gathered one after another at the Nightfort.

The most tragic battle took place at the Nightfort; the Night King personally led the army to attack the Nightfort.

"Emperor Eddard, you are already a god-like existence; you have subdued the Night King, stopped the Long Night, and created the shortest winter in the history of Westeros. Spring has come, and the Children of the Forest and I must return to the forest."

Eddard only granted permission for the Death Knight Prince Rhaegar, Robert Baratheon, Viserys, and Khal Drogo to regain their self-awareness.

The Night King on the moving castle snapped his fingers.

Eddard said indifferently, "This is Dark Magic." Sooner or later, this would become Eddard's castle.

In the bitter cold weather, guarding a giant ice structure like the Wall, every breath felt like needles piercing into the lungs. Many warriors who had come to the Wall to fight from Dorne, the Reach, and the Stormlands were shivering, even after wearing thick furs in three layers inside and out.

"Why can this kind of castle fly?"

Jon came to Eddard's side.

The sky bled in trickles; these castles condensed into a map of Westeros under the gaze of the God's Eye, and the map of Westeros was pieced together from weirwood.

The Children of the Forest took the opportunity to scatter powder, which turned into a magic net and entangled Meraxes, Vhagar, and Balerion.

Brienne stroked her sword Dark Sister, "This is a gift from His Majesty and the Mother of Dragons; I ought to slay the enemy so as not to live up to this gift."

The heavy snow stopped, and the sunlight poked out from the dark clouds; the long winter ended, and spring arrived. This might have been the shortest winter in the history of Westeros.

More than a dozen castles on the Wall were all enduring attacks from the undead; Eddard breathed in the Element Power in the air, and the place where the aura of death was thickest was where the undead attacked most fiercely.

"I am starting to like the cold weather brought by the Night King; if the weather were warmer, the stench of the stitched monsters would have suffocated us to death."

Jaime shrugged, "It seems I am born with the fate of a Kingslayer! Back in the Red Keep at King's Landing, I had enough of Robert climbing into Serxi's bed every night; I always regretted not being able to kill Robert with my own hands. I never expected that Robert would become a Death Knight, finally allowing me to get my wish."

Eddard decided to support Castle Black first; he used the teleportation stones and, taking the magic dragons, giant eagles, griffins, Daenerys, Jon Snow, and Melisandre, arrived at Castle Black.

On the Wall, multiple castles including Castle Black and the Nightfort were suffering attacks from the undead; Eddard decided to go to the Shadow Tower first.

The Undertaker was dressed in black, holding a scythe, and revealed a smile.

Eddard recognized that one of the frost dragons was Silverwing; she once belonged to the "Good" Queen Alysanne. Back then, Queen Alysanne persuaded House Stark to donate the New Gift and used her own jewelry to help the Night's Watch build a new castle. To show gratitude for Queen Alysanne's contribution, the castle west of Castle Black, Snowgate, was even renamed Queensgate.

The moving fortress shattered instantly; Vhagar, Meraxes, and Balerion trembled incessantly, and the wights and White Walkers turned to ashes.

The Night King's power was so formidable that even the powerful Balrog could not take a single blow from the Night King.

The craftsmen immediately began to repair the artillery platforms, catapults, and ballistae.

This was because Robert was Eddard's good brother, Prince Rhaegar was Jon's father and Daenerys's brother, Khal Drogo was Daenerys's husband, and Viserys, however foolish, was after all Daenerys's brother.

Khal Drogo said, "Khal Drogo would duel Jon for this; the undead Drogo would not, because I have seen death. Being alive is the happiest thing. Woman, wife, please enjoy life; I will fight for you and protect everything of yours."

The frost dragon Vermithor dove down toward the Wall; the Child of the Forest Leaf scattered a handful of green powder, and the powder fell onto Vermithor, instantly turning into a large net that covered Vermithor. Vermithor struggled bitterly, the net tightening more and more; the giant Wun Wun, Dodo, and the strong Mag swung their war hammers and smashed Vermithor to pieces.

Subsequently, Eddard, with the magic dragons, giant eagles, and griffins, repelled the necromancer Ogbeta at Heidiao Ting.

Daenerys and Jon hurriedly mounted the magic dragons to engage in battle; Eddard controlled the six magic dragons with his mind, spraying dragonfire, and the ice bats burned and fell while screaming.

On the Wall, Melisandre was wrapped in a red silk dress, covering her plump, jade-like skin; the Red Cloak Melisandre's skin was scorching hot, completely unaffected by the cold, which was because she served the Lord of Light R'hllor.

When Daenerys and Jon arrived above the Nightfort, they were both shocked, because a moving castle had appeared in the air; the castle was skull-shaped, and its eyes were blue.

The Night King led the undead army and knelt at Eddard's feet.

"Your Majesty, we have defeated the undead, what is the next step?"

The Three-Eyed Crow answered, "The Wall itself possesses magic; the Moving Castle cannot fly over it."

Eddard said, "Westeros's workshops need the undead to work, the land needs tilling, the ports need ships built; in the future, the undead can farm for me, work in the workshops, dig canals, and repair roads."

At Stonemoor, the Magic Dragon repelled the Spider Baron's army of ice spiders.

The Element Power surged; the powers belonging to the earth, streams, rivers, oceans, forests, and wetlands gathered into Eddard's body, and Eddard was instantly filled with power.

Winter breathed out Dragonfire, the Undertaker's scythe struck out a black light, a coffin covered the space above the Undertaker, the coffin emitted rolling black smoke, and when the Dragonfire burned the coffin to ashes, the Undertaker vanished without a trace, fleeing toward the north.

A stitch-monster is a monster pieced together from corpses, over two meters tall, its limbs stitched together from dozens of rotting heads and limbs, pus flowing from the stitched parts, its whole body emitting the stench of abscesses and corpses.

The frost dragons Blue Queen, and Meleys, flew onto The Wall and sprayed ice, but were trapped by the Children of the Forest's nets; cannons roared, cannonballs pierced through these two frost dragons, the frost dragons screamed repeatedly, and subsequently, the Giant Eagle Prince Michu and griffins tore the frost dragons to pieces together.

Eddard said, "Brienne killed the Goat, Jaime killed Robert the Death Storm; for the Night King to resurrect these two Death Knights, it will consume quite a bit of Magic."

Eddard said, "This is the power belonging to Westeros, the Seven Kingdoms, the countless rivers, streams, earth, mountains, forests, oceans, and metals; Night King, the power of death cannot contend with the power of nature."

Following the Night King being miserably sealed, the Dark Altar in the Land of Always Winter began to collapse, the tens of thousands of undead army instantly lost Mind Control, and after only a heartbeat, Eddard took over the undead army; the Undertaker, the necromancer Ogbeta, the Spider Baron, the Death Knight, the Bat Enchantress, the frost dragons, and the Crow Eye all became puppets controlled by Eddard.

The Children of the Forest used magic nets to lock the bats, and cannons and Dragonfire together made these ice-snow bats vanish into thin air. Seeing that victory was impossible, the Bat Enchantress could only flee with the remnants of the undead.

Melisandre channeled a spell, the large red gemstone on her snow-white neck emitted a blood-red light, and she summoned flames to engulf the swarms of wights on The Wall.

Khal Drogo said, "This is my destiny, it has nothing to do with my wife. I really wanted to have a love that transcends life and death with you, but unfortunately, I am ultimately undead and can no longer give you a child."

Eddard revealed a smile, "I'm afraid the one who will be the servant is you!"

The Night King turned into a pendant on the ice sword, it was silver-blue, and next to the Night King pendant was a fire-red Balrog pendant.

Daenerys said, "We killed three frost dragons, will the Night King resurrect them?"

Brienne held the sword Dark Sister and blocked the Goat to fight; when the seven-colored rainbow light appeared, the Goat instantly lost his vision and was temporarily blinded, Brienne took the opportunity to use Dark Sister to stab into the Goat's heart, the Goat screamed and convulsed, his body turned to ashes, and his ghost drifted toward the sky.

Nightfort was commanded by the experienced Barristan, and the Knight of Flowers Loras, the Red Viper Oberyn, The Hound Sandor, the Lightning Lord, and the Red Priest Thoros were also at Nightfort.

Of course, the most stalwart resistance force at Nightfort was the Green Seer Three-Eyed Crow, the Crow Soldiers, and the Children of the Forest.

Under the gaze of the God's Eye, the Night King began to burn from within, his internal organs began to burn, the Valyrian Steel Sword Ice ignited, the Balrog in the sword heart danced wildly, and Eddard chopped off the Night King's head.

Rhaegar Targaryen stroked Jon Snow's black hair, "I didn't expect you to have grown so big already, thank you Emperor Eddard for raising you to adulthood. Back then, I made many foolish decisions because of prophecies."

"Eddard, the game should end!"

Eddard had eyes like an eagle, he could see everything about the undead under The Wall clearly, Eddard saw the pus-dripping stitch-monster and felt a wave of nausea, he used his hand to brush the accumulated snow off his hairline.

Melisandre checked the wounded, "If the plague is not treated in time, these wounded will eventually turn into wights with blue eyes."

Qhorin Halfhand led the Night's Watch brothers to fight desperately, Qhorin Halfhand brandished his burning sword and hacked down one enemy after another.

The ice sprayed by Balerion was so cold that the Magic Dragon Winter, the koi, and the Eagle Eye were all frozen in mid-air by the ice; Eddard channeled Element Power, flames descended from the sky and shattered the ice blocks.

Jon was riding on the back of the Magic Dragon Rhaegal, a plague wight jumped from the back of a frost dragon onto Rhaegal's back and pounced toward Jon, Jon drew the sword Blackfyre and pierced the wight's head with one strike.

The Night King's Death Sword was deflected by the Element Power, the Night King was greatly shocked, he gripped the Death Sword and stabbed toward Eddard, Eddard stroked the Weirwood Bracelet on his right wrist, and the totems of castles such as Winterfell, Casterly Rock, Highgarden, Riverrun, Harrenhal, Oldtown, Storm's End, the Eyrie, and Sunspear appeared in the air.

The Night King was once the Thirteenth Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, he and his Corpse Queen had beautiful memories here, and clearly, the Night King hoped to tear open the defensive line of The Wall from Nightfort and open the road to the south.

Robert Baratheon hugged Eddard, "Ha! My good brother Eddard, became King? You all treated me like this back then, it's time to let you god-damned bastard taste what it's like to be King."

The Kingslayer Jaime, Brienne, the advisor from Beyond the Wall Mance Rayder, the Old Bear Mormont, Ser Jorah, and others were commanding the battle on the ramparts of The Wall.

The air was full of the smell of rot, sour stench, and death, and some human soldiers could not help but cough.

Eddard was riding on the back of the Magic Dragon Winter, he used his mind to control the koi and the Eagle Eye together to kill the frost dragon Dreamfyre.

"Emperor Eddard, your servant the Night King is willing to serve you, may I ask, what can your undead servant do for you?"

Daenerys said, "I am already engaged to Jon, will you be jealous?"

The Night King's soul tried to escape, Eddard used Element Power to trap the Night King and collected the Night King's soul into the sword Ice; the undead's magic abilities were all absorbed by Eddard.

Daenerys and Jon tried to ride Magic Dragons to save Eddard, but were blocked by the frost dragons Meraxes and Vhagar.

The Three-Eyed Crow said, "The Children of the Forest also believe you are the greatest wise man; it is precisely because of Emperor Eddard that the Children of the Forest have learned to advance and retreat with humanity; in the future, the Children of the Forest will become a part of the family of living beings in Westeros."

Eddard was not troubled by the cold, the Element Power within his body was incomparably powerful and reached a perfect balance. Even setting aside the Element Power, the sword Ice in Eddard's hand was like a heater, emitting warmth; this was because the Balrog was sealed within the sword Ice.

The bats brought by the Bat Enchantress included not only ice-snow bats of huge size but also ordinary bats; these rat-sized bats appeared densely in the sky above The Wall.

After the frost dragon died, the undead air force above the Shadow Tower was left with only ice-snow bats; the Giant Eagle Prince Michu led dozens of giant eagles and griffins to arrive, and the ice-snow bats were soon killed off completely.

The shadow of the dying frost dragon covered the sky and sun, Aegon the Conqueror appeared riding Balerion the Black Dread, followed by Visenya riding Vhagar and Rhaenys riding Meraxes.

Six Magic Dragons bathed the undead below with Dragonfire, and the wights and stitch-monsters screamed as they died.

When at Harrenhal, the ice sprayed by frost dragons could freeze cannons, catapults, and ballistae; once these siege engines were frozen, they completely lost their ability to attack. At The Wall, because The Wall itself possesses magic, the ice sprayed by frost dragons could not freeze the siege engines.

The shadows of Meraxes, Vhagar, and Balerion obscured the sky, and they sprayed silver-blue ice, the ice covering the sky and earth.

After the landmines finished exploding, the cannons on The Wall began to roar, and cannonballs exploded among the undead under The Wall.

Ice-snow bats appeared from the sky, this kind of monster was more ferocious than giant bats, with a wingspan usually three meters long, its whole body emitting plague, it was much smaller than a frost dragon, but its size was enough to rival giant eagles and griffins.

The Winter Wolves and Night's Watch on The Wall had already buried landmines in the area one thousand meters north of The Wall in advance; when the wights entered the landmine range, many wights and stitch-monsters were instantly blown into broken bones.

The Night King's fierce general the Undertaker, leading tens of thousands of wights and stitch-monsters, approached the Shadow Tower, the western castle of The Wall, from the north amidst the sky-filling flying snow.

Eddard controlled the undead legion; these undead were all Eddard's puppets, having lost their self-consciousness, they were perfect killing machines.

Robert the Death Storm was hit by a Weirwood arrow from the Children of the Forest, and the seven-colored rainbow light also interfered with the Death Storm; the Kingslayer Jaime took the opportunity to use the Valyrian Steel Sword Oathkeeper to stab into the Death Storm's heart, the Death Storm died laughing wildly, and his ghost drifted toward the north.

The Night King rode Balerion the Black Dread and dived toward the Magic Dragon Winter that Eddard was riding; the Death Sword struck out a blue light that hit Eddard, bright red blood flowed from Eddard's chest, and the Magic Dragon Winter instantly lost control and began to fall slowly toward the ground.

The Wall has magic reinforcement and would not collapse under the ice and flames of the frost dragons, but the humans on The Wall could not survive under the ice attacks; Eddard drew the greatsword Ice, a flash of fire struck out, and the Balrog appeared on The Wall, blocking the ice from Meraxes, Vhagar, and Balerion.

The ice hit the cannons on the battery, the surrounding soldiers let out screams of blood freezing, died instantly, and turned into wights with blue eyes.

The remaining two frost dragons, Silver and Silverwing, were also both covered by the Children of the Forest's nets; Silver was killed by Daenerys's Magic Dragon Drogon, and Silverwing was killed by cannon fire.

The Night King held the waist of the Corpse Queen Serxi, appreciating the slaughter at The Wall from the Moving Castle.

The roar of frost dragons came from the air, three frost dragons appeared above The Wall and sprayed pale blue ice-dragonfire toward the defensive fortifications on The Wall.

"Eddard, death is sweet; after you die, you can be my Dark Servant forever."

The backs of the frost dragons were covered with wights emitting yellow plague, and like shaking off lice, they fell onto the ramparts of The Wall.

The world spun, and Eddard fell into the mud.

Bones were everywhere; once placed into the Funeral Carriage, it would not be long before these corpses turned into stitched monsters or blue-eyed Wights.

"Wolf King, you are truly heroic, but it is a pity that the valiant resistance of humans will only add amusement to the Night King's conquest."

The flames on the frost dragons Vhagar, Balerion the Black Dread, and Meraxes vanished, but all the Dragonknights were dead; the Night King rode upon the back of Balerion the Black Dread, and the Death Sword struck out a blue light, causing the Balrog to scream repeatedly as it bled magma.

Robert the Death Storm and the Goat Vargo Hoat rode ice bats and landed on the ramparts of The Wall.

Eddard rode on the back of a flying wolf, "I have truly heard enough of your nonsense!"

Fortunately, the timber at The Wall was very abundant; otherwise, in such weather, even without a war, people could be frozen to death alive.

Eddard said: "If the Night King wants to resurrect the frost dragons, he will have to waste more Magic. The Magic of the Undead also has a limit."

The shadows of the Night King and the Black Dread loomed over Eddard, and the Night King pressed the Death Sword against Eddard's heart.

Eddard said: "After your wedding with Daenerys, and Robb and Margaery's wedding, I will fulfill the promise I made to Daenerys back then; I will march across the Narrow Sea, liberate the slaves, and build a new empire."
