Chapter 61: The Abyss and Schubert

~7 min read 1,323 words

"I will add Eula to the group later, but now is not the time." Mu Yang chuckled, "I am very much looking forward to seeing how much Eula will grow in the future."

"She will make the right choice. I can feel a strong character within her!" Venti shook his head slightly.

"By the way, Venti, you were planning to half-heartedly hand over your Gnosis to La Signora before, weren't you?" Mu Yang suddenly asked out of the blue.

Venti stared at Mu Yang, dumbfounded, as if wanting to ask: How do you even know about that?

However, he nodded slightly and said, "I did intend to do so. After all, we had actually tacitly approved of the Cryo Archon's actions."

"Moreover, I also feel a sense of guilt toward La Signora; she saved Mondstadt when I was not around."

"Then you don't need to feel guilty anymore. You saved her life once!" Mu Yang said indifferently.

Venti's pupils constricted slightly. He understood what Mu Yang meant—that the other party sparing La Signora had, to some extent, to do with his own reasons.

If that was the case...

He could finally set his mind at ease.

Suddenly, both Venti and Mu Yang felt a shift in their thoughts and concealed their presence. Not far from them, a spatial rift opened, and an Abyss Herald stepped out. It looked around, failing to notice Mu Yang and Venti, who were hiding in mid-air.

"That is an Abyss Herald. It seems to be the one that attempted to corrupt my Statue of the Seven with Abyssal energy!" Venti transmitted his voice to Mu Yang.

After a pause, Venti continued, "They are likely descendants of Khaenri'ah, but they have been tainted by the power of the Abyss. They harbor intense hatred toward the Seven Archons and their nations."

"Of course, what they hate most is undoubtedly the Heavenly Principles."

Mu Yang nodded slightly upon hearing this. He did not reject this fact; since he had taken the place of the Heavenly Principles, he had to bear the hatred left behind by his predecessor.

The hatred of the Abyss and the Abyss Order!

Mu Yang accepted it!

The rebellion of the Cryo Archon and Snezhnaya!

Mu Yang accepted that too!

The Abyss Order must die. For this world, they were a massive hidden danger, and Mu Yang could not sit idly by while they continuously invaded the continent of Teyvat.

At least half of the Fatui had to die. He wondered what kind of expressions La Signora and Childe would have if they knew he wasn't some Traveler, but the Heavenly Principles themselves.

"They are likely trying to force you out!" After a moment of thought, Mu Yang realized their goal: "Corrupting the Seven Archons with Abyssal energy—truly worthy of the Abyss Order."

"However, for you, this is a good thing!"

"If it truly comes to a critical moment, Regarding Regarding Zhongli and I can intervene. As long as it isn't a large-scale invasion of the Abyss, it remains within an acceptable range."

"Heh, if they want to send us points, I can't really stop them!" Venti felt helpless thinking about how the 'old buddies' of the Abyss Order were going to such lengths to deliver points to him.

These guys were just too honest.

He really had no choice!

About ten minutes later, a sneaky figure ran over from the distance. Upon seeing the Abyss Herald, the man's expression brightened, though he quickly suppressed his smile and walked up to the Herald: "Checks have been strict lately; getting out of the City of Mondstadt is not an easy task."

The Abyss Herald glanced at the man—the protagonist of this incident, Schubert—and nodded slightly: "Have you finished the task we entrusted to you?"

"Almost, but it won't take long to complete!" Schubert's eyes flickered: "However, you must guarantee that after you take Mondstadt, you will hand it over to our Lawrence Clan to govern."

"If you agree, I can provide you with powerful combat strength."

"My niece, Eula, possesses strength not inferior to the Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius, Jean. I can persuade her to join you on your behalf."

"By then, your Abyss Order will have gained a great general!"

Even though the Abyss Herald and his kind were monsters, what did that have to do with him, Schubert?

When the time came, it would be Eula turning into a monster, not him!

He believed Eula would be willing to sacrifice herself for the family!

"We have no interest in territory; we only seek revenge against the Anemo Archon, Barbatos!" The Abyss Herald gave Schubert a deep look, a hint of mockery flashing in its eyes, its tone indifferent.

"Good! Give me one day, and I will definitely set up that transmission gate. When the time comes, as long as you have need, I can open it for you!" Schubert immediately replied to the Abyss Herald.

"Can the Abyss Order not enter the City of Mondstadt directly?" Mu Yang asked Venti curiously at this moment.

"Although there is leylines energy within the City of Mondstadt, it is not the same system as the leylines outside the city. I used some special methods back then, and almost all of the Seven Archons used similar methods in their respective countries."

"Monsters almost never appear inside the city."

"The spatial gates of the Abyss Order essentially utilize the power of the leylines."

"Without the help of someone inside the City of Mondstadt, they cannot enter directly!" Venti explained softly.

"Is that so? It seems there is still too much I need to learn!" Mu Yang nodded slightly.

In truth, he was still interested in the affairs of the previous Heavenly Principles—for instance, the four shades, or the three Moon Sisters; these were all incredibly mysterious existences.

Their status on the continent of Teyvat was even above that of the Seven Archons!

However, now only the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles remained.

Mu Yang was very curious about the story behind all of this!!

It was just a pity that the old man was very good at keeping secrets. Even when Mu Yang asked him, he only told Mu Yang that due to a contract, he could not speak of it.

After all, a contract never ends just because the other party has died.

As for Venti, that guy hid things very deeply; trying to get information out of him was truly too difficult.

On the other side, the Abyss Herald was quite satisfied with Schubert's attitude. It painted a grand picture for him: "Rest assured, in three days, the Stormterror will attack the City of Mondstadt. That will surely attract all attention, and you can open the spatial gate!"

"After that, leave it to us. Mondstadt will become your Lawrence Clan's..."

After a pause, the Abyss Herald erupted with terrifying killing intent: "If you mess things up, it will only cost us a little more effort, but as for you, you know the consequences!"

"Yes, yes, yes, yes!" Feeling the killing intent radiating from the Abyss Herald, Schubert shivered all over.

If they had this kind of strength, combined with the Stormterror, perhaps they really could finish off that bastard, the Anemo Archon!

After warning Schubert, the Abyss Herald opened a spatial gate and left. Schubert then regained his usual arrogance and snorted: "What a piece of work!"

"Once Eula joins the Abyss Order, her status will sooner or later be higher than yours. When that time comes, I will definitely make you kneel and kowtow to me three times!"

Having said that, he quickly ran back toward the city along the path he had come.

Schubert dared not linger outside the city; it was crawling with monsters.

Yet, seeing how he entered and exited Mondstadt, Mu Yang asked with a strange expression: "Why is there a dog hole in your Mondstadt city wall that no one manages?"
