Chapter 65: Volume 1, Chapter 65: Intestinal Carbuncle, Xiaoyu and Xiaoman
Just as Yun Qiyue was wondering what had happened to the young beggar to make him so desperate, he reached her. Before she could react, he knelt down before her with a 'thud'.
"Please, save my younger brother." The boy's voice was choked and urgent; if one listened closely, one could hear the fear and despair within.
Yun Qiyue raised an eyebrow slightly.
This young beggar had a strong personality; he was definitely not the type to kneel easily.
Since he was kneeling, it was clear that the person for whom he knelt was extremely important to him, and the situation was currently critical.
Thinking of this, Yun Qiyue didn't waste words. She stood up directly and said calmly, "Lead the way."
The young beggar probably hadn't expected Yun Qiyue to agree so readily. He was slightly stunned, but quickly stood up and led the way.
Circling behind the dilapidated temple, they saw a few even more decrepit shacks.
The young beggar led Yun Qiyue to a rickety door, pushed it open, and walked inside.
It was a room with only a corner of the roof covered by tiles. In that corner, there was a bed made of broken wooden planks and dry straw, on which a thin, weak child was lying.
The child was clearly being tortured by pain, constantly calling out "Brother Xiaoman," but was unable to open their eyes due to the agony, only able to moan in pain.
Sweat had long since soaked the child's face, washing away the dirt that seemed to have been smeared on intentionally, revealing patches of fair skin.
Yun Qiyue didn't linger on the child's appearance; she took a few quick steps forward and took their pulse.
But as her hand touched the child's pulse, Yun Qiyue subconsciously glanced at the child's face, a glimmer of realization in her eyes.
Then, with a calm expression, she asked the young boy about the child's condition.
From the boy, Yun Qiyue learned that the child had started having stomach pains five days ago, and for these five days, the pain had been so severe that they could barely eat anything.
Today, after begging for some steamed buns, the boy had brought them for the little beggar to eat.
But after just one bite, the little beggar had been in excruciating pain, which had terrified the young beggar.
Once she understood the situation, Yun Qiyue, having finished checking the pulse, reached out to press on the little beggar's abdomen.
As Yun Qiyue pressed, the little beggar's moans of pain grew louder.
The young beggar, who had been watching from the side, saw this and was both heartbroken and anxious. "What's wrong with my brother?"
Yun Qiyue withdrew her hand and looked at the young beggar. "Intestinal carbuncle." In other words, appendicitis. The little beggar's condition was likely a perforation; surgery was required immediately.
Upon hearing this, the young beggar was furious. "You're a quack! She doesn't have any intestinal carbuncle; she just has a stomachache from eating something bad."
As he spoke, the young beggar pointed to the bun that had only been bitten once. "It's your bun, isn't it? You poisoned the bun."
With that, the young beggar lunged at Yun Qiyue, looking as if he wanted to fight her to the death.
Yun Qiyue didn't indulge the young beggar's bad temper; she gave him a shoulder throw.
The young beggar felt the pain, but he scrambled up again, ready to attack Yun Qiyue once more.
Yun Qiyue's face turned cold. This time she didn't move, but said coldly, "Are you sure you want to keep fighting me and wait for her to die in pain?"
Yun Qiyue's words acted like a kill switch for the boy.
Then, with a deathly pale face, the boy stumbled to the bedside and knelt down. "Xiaoyu, I'm sorry. Brother didn't take good care of you."
As he spoke, the young beggar buried his head in the straw and sobbed.
Perhaps hearing the young beggar's crying, Xiaoyu struggled to open their eyes. "Brother Xiaoman..."
Hearing this, the young beggar quickly wiped away his tears and looked at Xiaoyu in a hurry.
Xiaoyu smiled slightly. "Brother Xiaoman is being a crybaby..."
Xiaoman clenched his fists tightly, saying nothing, but his body was trembling, clearly trying to endure the inner pain.
"Brother Xiaoman, am I going to die?" Xiaoyu asked.
Xiaoman immediately retorted, "No, Brother Xiaoman won't let Xiaoyu die."
Xiaoyu smiled, but didn't respond to Xiaoman's words, saying instead, "I'm so happy to have met Brother Xiaoman..."
Xiaoman choked up again, not knowing how to respond.
Watching this scene of "brotherly love," Yun Qiyue was speechless. "Why are you two acting like this is a life-and-death parting? Did I say I couldn't treat an intestinal carbuncle?"
She knew why Xiaoman had gone crazy and attacked her.
After all, by the medical standards of this era, an intestinal carbuncle was indeed classified as an incurable disease.
Xiaoman was afraid of losing Xiaoyu, and under the dominance of that fear, he had used her as a vent. While she was displeased, she could understand it.
But she didn't seem to have said she couldn't treat an intestinal carbuncle, did she? To jump to the conclusion that the patient would definitely die—wasn't that too disrespectful to her?
It was just a surgery. With the medical laboratory function of the system, what did she have to fear?
After hearing Yun Qiyue's words, Xiaoman froze, looking at her in disbelief. "You... you really can..."
Yun Qiyue didn't want to explain further, only saying coldly, "Right now, you have no choice but to trust me."
Xiaoman stared fixedly at Yun Qiyue, meeting her gaze behind the veil, as if trying to verify the truth of her words.
Finally, he gritted his teeth. "You... save her."
This decision seemed to have been made with great difficulty.
Yun Qiyue nodded. "Alright, get out."
Upon hearing this, Xiaoman looked guarded. "I'm staying right here."
Yun Qiyue shrugged. "Suit yourself."
With that, Yun Qiyue walked toward the door.
Xiaoman: "..."
Seeing that Yun Qiyue was really going to leave, Xiaoman grew anxious. "Didn't you say you were going to save her?"
Yun Qiyue turned back to look at Xiaoman, saying word by word, "Yes, but you're in the way here."
Just kidding, if she were to be watched while performing surgery, how could she possibly proceed?
Xiaoman still didn't want to leave. "I can be quiet."
Yun Qiyue refused to communicate further and turned to step out of the door.
Xiaoman grew anxious.
He looked at the departing Yun Qiyue, then at Xiaoyu on the bed who had closed their eyes again in pain, and finally made up his mind. "Fine, I'll go out."
Yun Qiyue retracted her step and turned to instruct Qingyan and Sixue outside, "Don't let anyone near this room."
At this moment, the beggars in the dilapidated temple had all been attracted to the scene, and Qingyan and Sixue had naturally followed.
After giving instructions to Qingyan and Sixue, Yun Qiyue turned and walked to the bedside.
Xiaoman left reluctantly, looking back every few steps, and at Yun Qiyue's signal, closed the door that looked anything but sturdy.
When only Yun Qiyue and Xiaoyu were left in the room, Yun Qiyue took off her veil.
However, just as Yun Qiyue put down the veil and turned to start working, she met a pair of clear eyes... ===== CHAPTER 66 =====
