Chapter 14: Void Predator, Devour Leader, Infinite Evolution!

~7 min read 1,247 words

Very quickly,

the teller walked over holding a black case.

Li Yao prepared to open it, but was stopped by the teller.

"Mr. Li, it would be better to wait until there is no one around to open it."

"Fine."

Li Yao roughly guessed what was inside the case and stored it in his storage ring.

Seeing this, the teller finally set her mind at ease and spoke with a smile.

"Mr. Li, have you chosen a suitable summon?"

"This one, why is it so much more expensive than the others?" Li Yao pointed at the Devour Bug.

The teller was stunned when she saw it, then explained.

"Because the Devour Bug's HP attribute can theoretically grow to the level of an A-rank summon."

"Oh?" Li Yao was curious.

"However, I do not recommend you choose this one."

The teller tapped on her tablet a few times and handed it to Li Yao: "See for yourself."

[Devour Bug (B-rank summon): Mandatory skill: Devour. Bites the target, sacrificing 10% of its own HP to deal true damage equal to 30% of the target's maximum HP. If this damage kills the target, it permanently increases its own HP by 1. Cooldown: 1 hour.]

Looking at the description, Li Yao was somewhat disappointed.

Although it was an extremely rare 'infinite growth type,' the growth value was too low.

Even if utilized to the extreme, it could only increase its HP by 24 points a day; presumably, this was the reason the teller did not recommend it.

Wait!

Li Yao suddenly thought.

For an ordinary summoner, the Devour Bug was just a B-rank summon with limited skill effects.

If he used Star Up, would it increase this value, or perhaps reduce the cooldown?

B-rank meant there was a lot of room for improvement. ===== CHAPTER 35 =====

The more he thought about it, the brighter Li Yao's eyes became.

"I'll take it!"

"Huh?"

Now it was the teller's turn to be surprised, thinking she hadn't explained it clearly enough.

"Mr. Li, please reconsider."

"Many summoners have raised Devour Bugs before; even if they hired specialists to feed them 24 hours a day, they only gained 8,000 HP in a year."

"Most importantly, aside from HP, the Devour Bug's other attributes are just at the level of an ordinary B-rank summon."

"Once grown, it's at best a meatier punching bag."

"Selling it for 2 million is too expensive."

If it were someone else, the teller would certainly hope they bought it so she could get a commission.

But the person in front of her was the young master of the Silver Wolf Guild and a heaven-sent genius who had awakened a talent.

If he wasn't satisfied with the Devour Bug after buying it and felt she had scammed him,

the teller felt terrified just thinking about it!

"Don't worry, even if it's exactly as you say, I won't blame you."

Li Yao saw her concern and spoke.

"You still want to buy it?"

"Yes." Li Yao nodded.

The teller quickly tapped on the tablet a few times.

Before long, a staff member brought the skill book *Devour Bug: Summon* to Li Yao.

"Charge it."

Li Yao took the skill book and went to the seventh floor of the Star Network Exchange.

Below the third floor was the exchange, and above the third floor were the hotel accommodations.

The room walls were made of special materials; even if an explosion occurred, the neighbors wouldn't hear a sound.

Of course, the price was not low.

Inside the room,

Li Yao reached out and placed his hand on the skill book, which turned into specks of starlight and surged into his body.

The Devour Bug's attributes appeared on his system panel.

[Chess Piece: Devour Bug]

[Skill 1: Devour. Bites the target, sacrificing 10% of its own HP to deal true damage equal to 30% of the target's maximum HP. If this damage kills the target, it permanently increases its own HP by 1. Cooldown: 1 hour.]

It could only be described as mediocre.

Aside from Devour, it had no other skills.

However,

"System, upgrade it for me!"

He had 5 gold coins left, and the hedge fund had given him another 10 upon reaching level 10, which was plenty for the Devour Bug's Star Up.

Once the Star Up was finished, Li Yao looked at the Devour Bug's attribute panel.

His heart finally settled.

The name had changed from Devour Bug to Void Predator, and it had gained an additional 'Void' bond.

Unfortunately, the Void bond required three Void chess pieces on the field simultaneously to trigger.

[Chess Piece: Void Predator]

[Level: 10 (Increases with Summoner level)]

[Grade: A-rank]

[Bond: Fighter/Void]

[Star Level: 2-star (Requires 15 gold coins for A-rank chess piece Star Up)]

Little master, there is more to this chapter, please click the next page to continue reading, it gets even more exciting!

"Perfect!"

Li Yao was ecstatic.

After the Star Up, it removed the HP increase from devouring ordinary creatures and changed it to requiring the devouring of leader-level targets.

At first glance, it seemed like a nerf.

But leader-level creatures usually had incredibly high HP; as long as he could secure the kill, the HP increase from one time would equal hundreds or thousands of previous increases!

Plus, it gained an extra skill.

Looking at the description, it was likely a crowd-control skill.

It kept the Void Predator from being just a brainless tank with nothing but HP.

Li Yao summoned the Predator.

"Are all creatures of the Void family deep purple-skinned?"

Looking at the Predator's appearance, Li Yao couldn't help but mutter.

It wasn't large, about a meter tall, with four pincers, two legs, and an upright insectoid body.

On both sides of its mouthparts were huge teeth that made one's hair stand on end.

Li Yao reached out and touched it.

The hard exoskeleton gave Li Yao a great sense of security!

"Next is this case."

Li Yao took the black case out of his storage ring and placed it on the table.

He had a rough guess as to what was inside.

Professional resource subsidy.

This was also the reason he had returned to his room after buying only one skill book.

The resource subsidy included an A-rank skill exchange badge, so he didn't need to waste extra money to buy one.

Li Yao extended his finger and placed it on the black case, on a spot similar to a fingerprint scanner.

"Bang!"

A large amount of steam sprayed out, and the black case slowly opened.

The next second,

"Huh?"

Looking at what was inside, Li Yao froze in place.

"It's actually an S-rank resource subsidy?!" ===== CHAPTER 36 =====
