Chapter 613

~7 min read 1,340 words

Li Yao might not be like Kujo Mise, who would brave any danger to improve her strength,

but he possessed an extra touch of yearning.

Facing the unknown, his hands would reach out uncontrollably.

He hoped to unveil the mystery with his own hands.

The threat of the Demon race

only made him step into the Abyss faster.

Even without the Demon race,

once his strength reached a certain level,

he would have stepped into this mysterious place all the same.

As they went deeper into the cave,

Mishaluo, though nervous, did not speak out to warn them.

The cave was winding with no branching paths, and the slope became increasingly steep.

If one weren't worried about sudden dangers,

one could even sit on the ground and slide all the way down.

Time flowed slowly.

They continued downward as if there were no end.

As things quieted down, everyone began to feel a bit exhausted.

It was already night when they entered the Abyss.

If they were on the Blue Star, the sun should be slowly rising by now.

They were all professionals, so their travel speed was not slow.

Even in the steep, narrow passage,

after several hours,

the length of the passage they had covered was nearly a hundred kilometers.

Although it wasn't a straight vertical drop,

the depth was at least thirty kilometers.

Li Yao could no longer sense the bronze chariot on the surface.

But he had a premonition:

That guy was definitely still waiting up there!

Darkness, humidity, narrowness, and underground tunnels—all these things invisibly exerted pressure on people.

The sound of breathing in the dim space became increasingly heavy.

There was a feeling of being unable to catch one's breath.

In such an environment, only those with absolute self-confidence would remain unaffected.

Mishaluo and the others, even as professionals,

knew that if any accident happened at this depth,

their strength would not be enough to blast open a path to survival.

Even Lu Zai increased the frequency of his smoking, attempting to dispel the restlessness in his heart.

However, this could not affect Li Yao.

He could link with the Tiger Beetle and easily leave the underground.

So, only he could focus on thinking right now.

"Li Yao, there's no path ahead," Shang Shang Yana said, looking at her instrument.

"Judging by the airflow, it should be a wide space of unknown size."

An underground space?

Li Yao easily associated it with the underground space where the Insect race hunted crows.

"Are there still no branching paths?"

"None," Shang Shang Yana replied.

"Got it!"

The group set off again,

and they unconsciously quickened their pace.

The word 'wide' gave them the feeling of surfacing from water, able to take a deep breath.

Soon, they walked another few hundred meters.

The cave had an exit, about five meters above the ground below.

Upon reaching the exit, they could clearly feel a faint breeze blowing over.

Li Yao took the flashlight handed to him by Mu Mu Xiaoxiao.

The beam broke through the darkness, and they could vaguely see an open area.

When the flashlight probed out of the exit and shone upward, the light could not find a ceiling.

It was just like shining a flashlight into the sky at night.

Li Yao did not sense any danger, and Mishaluo gave no warning.

The group jumped down to the ground

and all took out their flashlights to scan the surroundings.

They could see all kinds of strange rocks.

There were 'honeycomb' stones full of holes and 'cactus stones' covered in sharp spikes.

Yet, they could not see any living creatures or plants.

After observing carefully, they could find some traces of biological activity.

For example, indentations on the stones must have been moved by some creature,

or there were slight scratches on the stones.

"Sniff, sniff." Li Yao sniffed; along with the breeze, there seemed to be a bloody scent.

"Let's go." He shouted, and the group moved forward again.

There was a scent, but no biological aura was sensed.

This meant the bloody scent was drifting from several kilometers away.

A bloody scent meant slaughter.

Slaughter meant there were living creatures.

Li Yao unconsciously quickened his pace.

A few minutes later,

everyone smelled the blood, and various weapons appeared in their hands.

The flashlight swept over.

On the ground lay a pile of messy corpses.

"Wolves?"

The corpses looked somewhat like wolves, but no fur could be seen, and their faces were covered by a layer of thick skin, so their eyes were not visible either.

Li Yao squatted down to examine these corpses carefully.

Some had a circular pit in their abdomen, with charred edges around the pit.

Others had their skulls smashed, the huge impact directly blasting the inside of the cranium into a mess.

Kujo Mise walked around for a while. "They are all corpses of these skinless wolves."

"The battle should have been one-sided, and the blood is still warm."

"Li Yao, can you sense any aura nearby?"

"No," Mu Mu Xiaoxiao, as a healing-class professional, dipped her finger in the blood on the ground and sniffed it. "There is other blood mixed in."

"It wasn't one-sided; the other side was injured too!"

Li Yao did not sense any aura, proving that the other party was still some distance away.

The group did not linger for long.

Mishaluo kept his eyes closed, continuously sensing malice, and then they continued deeper.

There were more and more corpses on the ground.

Not only were there skinless wolves, but there was also another type of corpse.

A kind of white, worm-like creature resembling a silkworm.

One skinless wolf was still tightly biting its body even after death.

Dark green blood flowed all over the ground.

The group looked at each other and then quickened their pace.

The other side had suffered casualties here.

The place of slaughter should not be far away.

Soon,

an aura appeared in Li Yao’s field of vision.

Immediately after, there were more and more auras.

The bloody scent in the air became increasingly obvious.

By now, the corpses of those silkworm-like creatures were becoming more numerous.

"Donor Li Yao!"

Mishaluo called out.

Looking in the direction of his gaze,

human corpses?

The group felt a shock in their hearts.

Among the pile of messy corpses, was there really a human corpse?

Li Yao approached quickly.

Just like the footprint he saw earlier,

this 'human' was unusually short.

The face was mature, but the height was less than half a meter.

There was an exaggerated wound on the back, with the spine even pulled out.

Preliminary judgment suggested it was clawed out by those skinless wolves.

Blood flowed all over the ground, and like humans, it was scarlet.

In terms of clothing, it was made of animal hide, but there were iron tools tied to the leather, indicating they had mastered iron forging; the level of civilization was not low.

Mu Mu Xiaoxiao stared blankly at the corpse. "This height can no longer be explained by disease. Although it looks like a human, it is not a human."

"And the footprints found earlier prove that their height is not an isolated case!"

Mu Mu Xiaoxiao leaned in, frowning as she touched the bloodstain.

If it were the blood of a monster, she wouldn't have any psychological burden, but as a healer, she felt a glimmer of pity for this creature that resembled a human.

"Time of death is no more than half an hour."

"Li Yao, they should still be fighting. Judging from the corpses, these humanoids should have the advantage, but the number of skinless wolves is huge; they must have fallen into a bitter battle."

"We..."

"Let's go, let's go see." Li Yao knew what Mu Mu Xiaoxiao meant.

He thought the same.

Between skinless wolves and these petite humanoids,

no matter how you look at it, the humanoids are easier to communicate with.
