Chapter 1198: I'm Going to Save the World Now
Marshal Xu set the documents aside and rubbed his forehead hard. "Tell me, what's going on!"
When he had first learned that his world was going to merge with another, he had found it hard to accept, but after a period of adjustment, Su Yang had regained his composure.
He briefly told Marshal Xu about the anomaly, including the Void Wanderer's assessment.
"Sigh!" Marshal Xu let out a heavy breath. "The probability you're describing is very high, and it also perfectly explains why, three hundred years ago, this kind of strange change appeared across the entire world."
He sighed, yes he did.
But Marshal Xu was still relatively composed.
Perhaps because he had been through more, Marshal Xu's cultivation of his temper was a notch better than Su Yang's.
"Mm!"
"Right, the fusion point you discovered is deep in the Pacific Ocean, isn't it?"
Su Yang nodded. "Yes!"
"Then that explains it."
"Can you explain?"
Su Yang asked curiously.
Clearly, Marshal Xu knew things Su Yang did not.
That was only natural — as one of the Federation's rulers, he must certainly know many secrets Su Yang did not.
"To ordinary people, the Great Calamity did seem to happen out of nowhere, but it was actually a process — a very short one, so short that we had no time to prepare and didn't even know what was happening!" Marshal Xu said. "At the time, the first places to have problems included the deep Pacific. Submarines and warships from the Huaxia Federation, the Beautiful Country, and several other nations all vanished mysteriously and completely lost contact… Everyone suspected someone had struck in secret to provoke a war. Our countries were still squabbling internationally, pointing fingers at each other, and then suddenly, the whole world changed!"
Satellites and space stations lost contact with the ground one after another. The entire world was struck by intense magnetic interference. Power and communication systems collapsed completely, as if hit by the legendary solar storm. Plants began to grow wildly, animals became increasingly aggressive, and even the legendary superpowers appeared. Technological weapons lost their effectiveness…
Marshal Xu said quietly, "I've heard the older generation say that period of upheaval was like a nightmare!"
"Mm!"
Su Yang nodded.
When he was young, he had often heard the older generation talk about stories from that period.
In the libraries, many texts of despair and bewilderment had been preserved to this day.
Marshal Xu said quietly, "I thought that once we got through the Great Calamity and adapted to this world of rampaging fierce beasts, everything would start moving in a good direction. I never imagined that the Great Calamity of three hundred years ago was only the beginning!"
"Yeah!"
"Until this matter is settled, keep it confidential." Marshal Xu said to Su Yang. "I'll first notify some of the senior leadership and a few heads of the Federation Academy of Sciences, confirm things, and then discuss a response strategy!"
Confidentiality was, of course, a must.
"Yes!"
"You can set aside the Northern Army matters for now. Have Liu Mengyun take charge temporarily. We need you to assist the Federation Academy of Sciences people with an on-site investigation."
Without splitting Su Yang and Liu Mengyun apart, the Federation had clearly intended all along to have Su Yang provide support to Federation regions at any time.
With a space-type pet beast, Su Yang's support capability was unrivaled in the Federation!
"Alright!"
Su Yang agreed at once.
First, the matter of the worlds merging was indeed more important.
Second, there were quite a lot of fierce beasts in that area, and their quality was quite high.
It was very beneficial for raising his strength.
After learning that the two worlds were about to merge, Su Yang's desire to raise his strength grew ever more urgent.
The Federation could not afford trouble!
Su Yang was not an original resident of this world — he was, in a sense, a transmigrator.
But over these years, he had found himself inseparable from this world and truly regarded it as his homeland.
After telling Marshal Xu about the matter, Su Yang felt much lighter, and the pressure was no longer as heavy. He even had time to mooch a meal at the cafeteria, then sit in on a meeting with Marshal Xu.
After all, having an entire nation backing him was far easier than going it alone.
Everything proceeded in an orderly fashion under Marshal Xu's command.
By the very next day, the General Headquarters had dispatched an elite investigation team led by Chen Wen, Vice President of the Federation Academy of Sciences.
The team included five Academy scientists, five King-level Generals, and a large amount of scientific equipment.
Of course, the investigation team the Federation sent could not be only this size — this was merely the advance party!
The Federation had prepared only ten people, taking Su Yang's ability to transport personnel into account.
According to plan, close to a hundred scientific researchers, think-tank members, and elite bodyguards would be dispatched in successive waves afterward.
However, all of these people would travel by land first, making their way to Mount Dajiao in the Southeast Army, and then Su Yang would transport them. This way, Su Yang's burden could be eased somewhat.
The advance investigation team was set to depart on the third day. On the second day, Su Yang applied to return to the Northern Army for a trip to make arrangements.
When he returned to Bingcheng, it was around three or four in the afternoon.
Su Yang pushed open the office door. When he saw Liu Mengyun, she had her head down handling documents and didn't even look up.
"Mm! Mm!"
Su Yang cleared his throat.
"Heh! Some people still know how to come back, do they? Haven't you had enough gallivanting around out there these past few days?"
Su Yang couldn't help laughing.
Although he had gone to inspect the Northern Army's two hundred cities, almost every night he would come home — he had the Void Wanderer, after all!
Getting home was very convenient — a matter of an instant.
But in the last few days, in order to investigate the abnormal surge of spatial energy, he hadn't said anything to Liu Mengyun about it.
Su Yang smiled, walked around behind Liu Mengyun, stretched out his hands, and gently massaged her shoulders.
Liu Mengyun slowly leaned back and rested the back of her head against Su Yang's stomach.
"What's been going on these past few days?"
Her voice had grown much softer, and her anger had clearly faded.
Liu Mengyun knew Su Yang must have run into some trouble.
"A big one!"
"What kind of trouble?"
Su Yang briefly told Liu Mengyun about his experiences over the past few days, and the problems this world might be facing.
Liu Mengyun's eyes were slightly closed, her exquisitely beautiful face showing no expression at all.
But Su Yang could still tell her heart was pounding fiercely.
"Su Yang, will the Federation disappear?"
"Impossible!"
"Why?"
Su Yang laughed heartily and said, "Because I'm here!"
Liu Mengyun opened her eyes, gazed at Su Yang's face, and smiled as she reached out both hands.
Su Yang bent forward slightly, and his neck was hooked by Liu Mengyun's hands and pulled down, until their lips pressed together.
Leaning against the wall, Su Yang said slowly, "The matters at the Northern Military Department will have to trouble you for now—I'm going to save the world!"
Plans always fail to keep up with change.
"Mm!"
"Take good care of yourself. When I have time, I'll come back!"
"Wait!"
