Chapter 1437: Arriving at the Imperial Palace of Qingluan City
Su Yang and Xia Na were simply too dazzling; intimidated by the aura constantly radiating from them, the people around would voluntarily clear a path.
The city-guarding general walked over, and before he could speak, Su Yang produced a cyan command token.
"Send someone to take me to the imperial palace!"
The moment the city-guarding general saw the token in Su Yang's hand, he dropped straight to his knees.
"Get up, no need to kneel, just take us straight to the imperial palace!"
"Yes, my lord, follow me!"
After a brief handover of his post, the city-guarding general respectfully led Su Yang and his companion into Qingluan City.
"That token—it's really that useful?"
Xia Na looked curiously at the token; the cyan token was forged from some unknown metal, with a divine blue phoenix about to take flight carved upon it.
"Qin Longyun gave it!"
"So this is what a blue phoenix looks like?" Xia Na asked curiously, "Can I have a look?"
"Here!"
Su Yang handed the token to Xia Na.
Whatever Xia Na wanted, as long as Su Yang had it, he gave it.
The general escorting Su Yang into Qingluan City broke out in a cold sweat hearing their conversation.
He had already realized that Su Yang and Xia Na were not their Your Majesty's trusted confidants!
Their background was probably extraordinary!
Thinking of this, he flagged down an ornate carriage.
This carriage bore no family crest whatsoever—clearly belonging to someone they could afford to offend.
"The person inside, come out—this carriage has been commandeered!"
The coachman stopped and looked back.
"Lady!"
A still-graceful woman stepped out from inside the carriage; as she lifted the curtain, Su Yang and the others also saw two children within.
"Um... brother, no need, we don't need to ride—we can take the chance to look around Qingluan City!"
Su Yang quickly called out.
The city-guarding general said: "My lord, the imperial palace is still some distance away; at this pace, it may take quite a while!"
"That's fine."
Making the carriage's owner step down so he could sit up himself—
under normal circumstances, Su Yang still couldn't bring himself to do it.
"Soldier, and you two lords as well—the carriage is fairly roomy, why don't you all come aboard?"
At this moment, the woman standing by the carriage hopped down and offered of her own accord.
The city-guarding general looked at Su Yang, who smiled and said: "Then many thanks!"
The carriage interior was indeed spacious; Su Yang and Xia Na sat on one side, the city-guarding general and the woman on the other, while the two children nestled against their mother, curiously eyeing the other three.
Xia Na produced three lollipops and waved them playfully in front of the two children.
She unwrapped one lollipop, popped it into her own mouth, and asked:
"Really sweet—want some?"
The two children turned to look at their mother.
"Do you want some?"
The youngest, a three-year-old, swallowed and nodded.
"Then take them!" the woman smiled. "Remember your manners!"
The three-year-old reached out and took the lollipop: "Thank you, big sister!"
"Good child!"
The slightly older child also got a lollipop, and mimicking Xia Na, peeled off the wrapper and popped it into his mouth.
"So sweet!"
Xia Na thought for a moment, then took out three more lollipops and handed them to Su Yang, the woman, and the city-guarding general.
The woman and the general accepted them out of politeness.
Su Yang stared at the lollipop, momentarily at a loss as to what to do with it.
But Xia Na handled it for him.
"Open your mouth!"
Looking at the lollipop right before his eyes, Su Yang helplessly opened his mouth.
"Good boy!"
Su Yang, lollipop in mouth, shot Xia Na a look.
Recently this girl had started getting more and more mischievous.
The woman asked curiously: "Are you two lords visiting Qingluan City for the first time?"
"Yes, first time!"
Xia Na answered.
"If you'd like to look around Qingluan City, I can serve as your guide."
Xia Na asked: "Would that be convenient?"
"What's inconvenient about it?" the woman laughed. "My husband runs a small shop in Qingluan City; aside from looking after the children every day, I've nothing else to do—bored out of my mind."
Xia Na looked back at Su Yang, who shook his head: "Thanks, but no need to trouble you!"
She was refused outright, and the woman gave an awkward laugh. Spotting a building outside the carriage window, she changed the subject and began chatting with Xia Na about that building's history.
The defending general would also chime in from time to time, adding a word or two of his own.
Su Yang listened along to the three of them as they talked.
With this woman around, the journey wasn't dull. An hour and a half later, the carriage arrived at the gates of Huanggongda Sect, and the three of them hopped down from the carriage.
The imperial palace of the Qingluan Kingdom was far more magnificent than the palace of the little Tang Kingdom on the Beautiful Continent!
After all, the little Tang Kingdom was just a small country of three cities, whereas the Qingluan Kingdom was a truly great nation.
