Chapter 222

More than ten military trucks lined up at the entrance of the camp.

Over a hundred members of the emergency squad leapt onto the truck beds; the trucks started up and headed toward the southern gate of Tongjia City.

After leaving the middle zone and entering the outer district, the trucks slowed noticeably.

Su Yang and his team stood on the trucks, seeing civilians who had retreated to the sides of the streets.

Most of them brought their families and luggage, with cotton quilts spread out on the ground.

They stood along the streets, watching curiously the emergency squad members in crisp military uniforms atop the trucks, their gazes filled with awe.

Most of these people were ordinary civilians evacuated from towns and villages outside Tongjia City.

With no enough space to house them, they had to squeeze along the roadside!

They were equally curious about Su Yang and his team's identities.

"Who are they? They look so imposing!"

"Are they Tongjia City's beast tamer?"

"No, they're from Changwu City's emergency squad!"

"I heard they're incredibly strong—even the weakest are Gold-ranked beast tamers!"

"Are these reinforcements summoned by our city lord?"

"Of course! Our city lord is truly amazing!"

"When I become a beast tamer, I'll join the emergency squad too—looks so cool!"

"…"

Su Yang gradually pulled his gaze away from the civilians when suddenly a dark shadow flew toward him!

Ambush?

Su Yang instinctively reached out and gripped the flying shadow tightly.

He looked down at his hand—it was a bouquet of bright red roses.

Dew clung to the rose petals, releasing a rich, fragrant scent.

The seventh emergency squad members beside him burst into laughter.

Su Yang looked up and saw a delicate, long-haired girl leaning out of an open second-floor window.

The girl had fair skin and a blushing face; she gathered her courage and shyly waved at Su Yang.

Xu Jiutian chuckled: "She's confessing her love to you!"

"Why doesn't anyone throw flowers at me?"

"Because you're too ugly!"

"Yeah, Su Yang's the seventh squad's beauty representative—Old Liu said just the other day he wanted to introduce his daughter to Su Yang!"

"…"

An officer in charge of maintaining order rushed over, apologizing to Su Yang: "Sorry for disturbing you—we'll arrest her immediately and give you justice!"

The girl at the window, seeing the officer glance her way, grew visibly alarmed.

She realized she had made a mistake.

"It's fine," Su Yang waved his hand. "She didn't mean it."

Seeing Su Yang had no intention of pursuing it, the officer quickly changed tone: "Then we'll just give her a reprimand—this must not happen again!"

"Do as you say."

Su Yang gave a slight tug and tossed the bouquet neatly back onto the girl's windowsill.

The beautiful girl's eyes filled with disappointment.

The military truck turned a corner, and the window vanished from Su Yang's view.

Arriving at the southern wall of Tongjia City, the city's soldiers stood ready for battle.

Two Gold-ranked beast tamers from the emergency squad, under Zhu Xiaoshuang and Shen Yan's command, joined Tongjia City's Gold-ranked beast tamers.

Su Yang stood atop the southern gate, directly behind Zhu Xiaoshuang.

Before him stood Tongjia City's lord, Mu Yuankai, and Shen Yan.

He gazed far off toward Jinya Mountain, thinking of the Purple Crystal Rhinoceros—rumor said its power surpassed even that of a Sovereign.

Once, a Sovereign-ranked beast tamer tried to kill it—and failed, losing four Sovereign-ranked companion beasts in the attempt!

"Su Yang, scout the area around Tongjia City!"

"Understood!"

Storm Eagle appeared and soared into the sky above Tongjia City, vanishing quickly.

Even without clouds, a regular Gold-ranked beast tamer could not locate Storm Eagle.

Mu Yuankai glanced at the sky, then looked curiously at Su Yang.

Zhu Xiaoshuang asked: "Any findings?"

"First wave: flying-type ferocious beasts, plus massive numbers of mutated sparrows. The strongest are four Platinum-ranked Cloud Soaring Eagles—likely other Platinum-ranked ferocious beasts too. They'll arrive in ten minutes. Based on their flight path, they'll reach Tongjia City first."

Due to the Purple Crystal Rhinoceros's rampaging slaughter, the ferocious beasts of Jinya Mountain, driven by terror, have erupted in chaos—of course, their target isn't Tongjia City.

But they will pass through Tongjia City; even the mere stragglers among them could inflict catastrophic damage.

For example, those four Cloud Soaring Eagles—if they unleash even a few skills as they fly over, Tongjia City could suffer Heavy casualties.

"Lord Mu, prepare for battle. We'll try to divert the Platinum-ranked flying ferocious beasts ahead," Zhu Xiaoshuang said. "The rest, we'll handle."

"Understood!"

This was Su Yang's first time facing a ferocious beast eruption head-on.

He felt slightly nervous.

Ten minutes later, the four Cloud Soaring Eagles appeared at the edge of sight.

Mu Yuankai, Zhu Zhu Xiaoshuang, and Shen Yan led five Platinum-level flying familiars into battle.

The remaining two deputy squad leaders did not move.

Su Yang witnessed the battle firsthand: the three of them jointly killed two of the four Azure Cloud Eagles; the remaining two fled in another direction.

The three Platinum-level experts did not pursue them, but instead prepared for the next Platinum-level ferocious beast to pass by.

Next, seven or eight more Platinum-level ferocious beasts passed by, all of which were either killed by Zhu Zhu Xiaoshuang's group or forced to detour.

After one round of combat, their five Platinum-level familiars were injured and heavily drained.

Their Platinum-level familiars weren't as monstrous as the Storm Eagle!

"Golden-level flying ferocious beasts are coming!" Su Yang shouted loudly. "They'll appear in five minutes!"

Zhu Zhu Xiaoshuang looked toward the Golden-level beast tamers on the wall: "It's your turn now!"

"Understood!"

The emergency squad and the beast tamers of Jiacheng simultaneously summoned their Golden-level flying familiars.

Su Yang's Storm Eagle also slowly descended.

Golden-level ferocious beasts were rare even at Mount Yandang; Su Yang naturally wanted his Storm Eagle to reap a batch of experience now!

Zhu Zhu Xiaoshuang saw Su Yang's Storm Eagle and knew exactly what he intended.

She said with concern: "Don't let that treasure get lost!"

Zhu Zhu Xiaoshuang's Platinum-level Black Tiger Eagle flew straight to the Storm Eagle's side!
