Chapter 299: Su Yang

"This is an order from above—I can't do anything about it!"

Zhu Zhu Xiaoshuang spread her hands, indicating she was powerless.

Liu Liu Mengyun slowly turned around, her expressionless face saluting Su Yang with a perfect military salute: "Major Su, sir!"

Su Yang waved his hand, not planning to acknowledge this woman.

"I'll talk to Commander Yao—fine, she joined the military, I accept it, but can't we just send her far away?"

High-ranking military command's power struggles were beyond Su Yang's reach.

Liu Liu Mengyun not being executed was within his expectations.

After all, her father, Liu Long, was the head of the Southwest branch of Zhenbao Pavilion and a King-level Beast Tamer; if enough of a price was paid, it was still possible to save her life!

But why assign her to the Emergency Unit?

"Wait!"

Zhu Zhu Xiaoshuang grabbed Su Yang.

"Captain, is there something else?"

He held great respect for Zhu Zhu Xiaoshuang.

First off, it wasn't Liu Mengyun's fault; from other perspectives, she's exceptionally talented. Back then, Deputy Commander Ma Wenhong even invited Liu Mengyun to join the Emergency Unit—but she refused at the time!

"And then?" Su Yang asked.

"Liu Long personally delivered the severed head of the Starlight-level Beast Tamer who hunted you, plus compensation: three Imperial-potential beast eggs, ten King-potential beast eggs, fifty Starlight-level beast eggs, and a hundred Platinum-level beast eggs… all just hoping the Southwest Military would overlook Zhenbao Pavilion's mistake and spare his daughter's life!"

What could Su Yang possibly say?

Zhenbao Pavilion… damn, they're rich!

He turned to look at Liu Liu Mengyun; at that moment, she had lowered her head.

Two pale hands clenched tightly together!

On the market, a King-potential beast egg was worth far more than a mature beast of the same level.

Young Beast Tamers who bonded with King-potential beasts could grow faster under the beast's influence.

Only Liu Mengyun knew how devastating a price the Southwest branch of Zhenbao Pavilion had paid!

If her father, Liu Long, weren't a King-level Beast Tamer, he might already have been taken to headquarters for questioning!

"Even General Qin wouldn't refuse!"

Zhu Zhu Xiaoshuang looked helplessly at Su Yang.

It meant… they offered too much!

The Southwest Military, the High-ranking military command, also wanted这批 beast eggs.

"I can understand that—but can't we just transfer her away?"

"Originally, General Qin planned to sentence her to life imprisonment, but Deputy Commander Ma thought Liu Liu Mengyun's talent and ability were too good to waste in prison…"

Deputy Commander Ma Wenhong of the Emergency Unit?

Su Yang recalled that amiable deputy commander…

Did he take the money?

He definitely took the money!

Still, General Qin's maneuver impressed Su Yang.

After accepting so many benefits from Liu Long, he changed the sentence to life imprisonment!

This is the true model for our generation!

"So…"

"So, after gaining approval from Commander Yao and General Qin, Ma Wenhong decided to give Liu Liu Mengyun a chance!"

Su Yang asked: "What kind of chance?"

"Assign her to the Seventh Squad of the Emergency Unit as your deputy officer!"

"My deputy officer?"

Su Yang jumped straight up in place.

In the Huaxia Federation Army, deputy officers were mostly of very low rank and held virtually no real authority.

Their main duties were writing documents, delivering orders, fetching tea, running errands for superiors…

Very similar to a secretary position in civil administration.

But in the military, there were only deputy officers—no secretaries!

Most officers' deputy officers were of the same gender; Su Yang had never seen a single case of an opposite-gender deputy officer!

But I don't even have the qualification to have a deputy officer, do I? Su Yang complained.

"You're a major—you qualify!"

"I have no real authority, I'm just a common soldier—I don't need a deputy officer!"

Zhu Zhu Xiaoshuang pointed upward: "It's an order from above!"

"I'll go ask Deputy Commander Ma!"

Su Yang turned and ran immediately after speaking.

Even Zhu Zhu Xiaoshuang couldn't call him back.

Liu Liu Mengyun watched Su Yang's retreating back, her vision growing blurry.

She could clearly feel Su Yang's disdain for her!

Zhu Zhu Xiaoshuang idly flipped through documents, ignoring Liu Liu Mengyun entirely.

When he met Deputy Commander Ma, Ma Wenhong warmly received Su Yang and ordered his deputy officer to serve him tea.

"Sit down, don't be formal!"

Su Yang sat respectfully on the chair.

"Captain, that Liu Mengyun…"

Ma Wenhong smiled warmly and lowered his voice: "Not bad, right? I arranged it for you!"

Ma Wenhong's tone implied: Su Yang, look, don't I take good care of you?

This made the explanations Su Yang had prepared on the way vanish from his mind almost instantly…

Su Yang whispered: "Is this really appropriate?"

"Only this arrangement is best. If we just dumped her into some random department, Captain Yao and General Qin feared you'd object!"

"What objection could I possibly have?"

Ma Wenhong smiled warmly: "Hard to say, hard to say!"

Su Yang silently cursed:

These old foxes!

They think too much!

They're judging a gentleman by the standards of a petty man!

Was he, Su Yang, the kind of man with a narrow mind?

"Then… how about this!" Ma Wenhong hesitated, reached into his waist pouch, and pulled out a massive beast egg, placing it before Su Yang: "Here's a royal-potential beast egg—take it, and accept Liu Mengyun!"

Of course!

Su Yang was now certain!

Ma Wenhong took a bribe!

The Deputy Captain took money from the Treasures Pavilion!

Su Yang touched the beast egg hesitantly: "But I have a grudge against Liu Mengyun…"

Reporting her was out of the question.

Reporting her would only anger Ma Wenhong, the Deputy Captain of the Emergency Unit!

Besides, he had no proof.

"I've spoken with her. She's smart—she'll obey you without issue. If she shows any sign of rebellion, you can kill her, as long as it's justified… Of course, if you're interested in her, don't force her. Give her father some face."

Su Yang felt he and Deputy Captain Ma were not on the same wavelength.

Force her?

His taste couldn't possibly be that bad.
