Chapter 11: Unusual
The motorcycle's speed was extremely fast.
The modified engine emitted bursts of roar, raising the speed to 100 kilometers per hour in a short time.
Lin An wore no helmet, his expression blank; the high-speed airflow coming head-on had no effect on him.
Faintly, he seemed to hear someone shouting from the residential area behind him.
However.
Even if he heard it clearly, he would not stop.
The modified motorcycle was like a black streak, speeding along the ring-city highway.
Along the way, wrecked cars and miserably dead bodies could be seen everywhere.
Limbs and severed arms hung on the guardrail like fresh pork.
Lin An, relying on his awakened reflexes, easily maneuvered the bike, flexibly dodging obstacles along the road.
Even though he was not skilled at riding a motorcycle, thanks to reflexes beyond human limits, he still gained driving ability comparable to that of a top racer.
Ring-city expressway. On the roof of a silver-white RV, a man and a woman stood carefully.
They had been trapped there for a day and a night.
No food, no water.
Fear and hunger and cold pressed upon them, nearly breaking their will.
Beside the RV below, the original driver and other passengers had turned into zombies.
Four zombies, driven by their craving for flesh, incessantly howled and clawed at the vehicle's body.
Under the zombies' relentless impacts, each shake of the body provoked a shrill scream from the bald-headed man.
On the roof, another girl wore a white short-sleeve top and denim shorts, looking youthful and cute.
Unlike the panicked middle-aged man, she simply clung tightly to the roof's antenna to keep from falling.
"We can't stay here any longer."
"Without water and food, continuing like this will drain our strength and lead to death."
The girl's name was Wen Ya; she forced herself to stay calm, unable to resist wanting to discuss a plan with the bald-headed man.
The bald-headed man was named Li Zhiping, her superior at the company.
Li Zhiping did not respond.
He was still frightened, merely looking around in panic.
Wen Ya saw Li Zhiping in that state and couldn't help but sigh lightly.
She hadn't expected that Li Zhiping, at his age, would be less composed than she.
Lustful, cowardly.
The day before, during the company team-building, Li Zhiping, using both soft and hard tactics, tried to drag her to KTV to sing.
Having no choice, she could only suggest going out for a picnic.
Otherwise, even with your feet you could guess what such an old man would do.
Wen Ya no longer paid attention to Li Zhiping's loud shouting, and couldn't help but rub her sore, soft ankles.
On her slender, fair ankles, there were some bluish marks.
Those were from when she accidentally bumped herself while climbing onto the roof.
"Save me!"
"Is anyone coming to save us!"
Not knowing how long he had shouted, after a day and night without a drop of water, Li Zhiping felt his throat about to smoke from shouting.
Overcome by fear and exhaustion, he lost his spirit and stopped the hoarse shouting.
Turning his gaze, he saw Wen Ya sitting cross-legged on the roof, her eyes glazed.
A pair of long, beautiful legs were being rubbed at the fingertips.
"Wen Ya..."
"I see you're badly hurt."
Li Zhiping laboriously swallowed a mouthful of saliva. He had long lusted after this little girl.
Youthful, beautiful—different from the old, faded hags at the company.
Rumor had it she graduated from a prestigious university.
"Let me help you rub it."
Speaking, he couldn't resist wanting to hold those small feet in his arms and knead them.
Wen Ya's face turned wary; she immediately stood up.
"No need; you'd better worry about yourself!"
Wen Ya gave the man a disgusted glare.
Cowardly, disgusting.
Even in this situation, his lust remains unchanged.
Li Zhiping didn't care, his eyes fixedly scanning Wen Ya's body.
Desire showed through.
After shouting all day with no one coming, this world—probably already gone mad.
If we can't survive, we might as well enjoy ourselves before death; dragging someone along to the grave isn't lonely either!
The atmosphere solidified.
Wen Ya's expression turned icy; she noticed Li Zhiping's change.
Both are now on the roof; if they fight or resist, it's easy to fall into the zombie horde.
However, she would never let that old man touch her, even if she died.
What to do?!
Li Zhiping's will wavered, and the fantastical vision drove away fear.
He could hardly restrain himself as he undid his belt, his right hand reaching toward Wen Ya.
Suddenly, the vehicle body shook.
Caught off guard, he staggered and fell backward onto the roof.
The zombies below instantly went berserk, madly scratching and leaping upward, all stretching their arms to grab him down for a meal.
The zombies' rotting fingertips touched his neck, like an electric shock.
Li Zhiping screamed, then straightened his body in panic.
After a while.
He fumbled, turning his head back and forth, as if realizing something.
"Help me check quickly! Have I been scratched?!"
His voice trembled with tears.
"I beg you, please look quickly!"
He couldn't see whether the back of his neck had been scratched by a zombie, so he could only ask Wen Ya, who was also on the roof.
"No."
Wen Ya exhaled lightly and replied coldly.
A flicker of unease crossed her eyes, but she quickly hid it.
Li Zhiping let out a long breath, his highly tense nerves instantly relaxing.
Like a survivor after a catastrophe.
As long as he wasn't scratched, it's fine.
He would rather commit suicide than become a zombie.
He had personally seen, the night before, a fellow passenger in the same vehicle, after a zombie scraped a small piece of flesh from his face, quickly turn into a zombie within ten minutes.
Flesh peeled away, rotting and foul-smelling.
If it weren't for his quick reaction to dodge onto the roof,
the corpse on the ground, with only half a foot left, would have been his fate.
"I just remembered."
"There's food in the nearby vehicle, and the key hasn't been pulled out."
"Moreover, the roof's skylight is open, just covered by the sunshade so you can't see it."
Wen Ya suddenly spoke, addressing Li Zhiping.
"Jump over, there's a chance to survive."
"That thing can be kicked apart with one foot."
"If we stay here, after the temperature drops at night there will be no hope at all."
Her tone was calm as she stated the facts.
Her right hand behind her back, tightly gripping a bunch of keys.
Hmm?!
Li Zhiping's eyes lit up at the words, and he hurriedly looked toward the nearby RV.
He had noticed that vehicle earlier, but jumping over wouldn't help.
But now Wen Ya says the skylight is open, meaning one can enter from the roof!
Torn, hesitant.
The distance is a bit far; he doesn't dare to jump.
After speaking, Wen Ya no longer looked at Li Zhiping, merely patiently conserving her strength.
He couldn't help but bitterly smile inside.
The skylight wasn't open, and the keys were in her hand.
To deceive Li Zhiping into jumping over, then attract zombies to drive the car away when he's dying.
There are many loopholes, but it's the only method she can use now.
If we stay longer, both of us will die.
No.
Actually, it should be said that only one person.
Li Zhiping has already been infected.
She saw the tiny wound on the back of his neck.
"If you want to jump, you go first!"
"Since you know, why don't you jump over?"
Li Zhiping asked Wen Ya suspiciously, then couldn't help scratching his arm.
"Or how about this: I'll jump over first."
"Take off your clothes and let me have a go first."
Too lazy to hide it.
Li Zhiping suddenly spoke, but only for a short time did he dare not go over.
Wen Ya's gaze was icy, and she remained silent.
Her right hand hidden behind her back, she slowly felt for a utility knife on the keyring.
Suddenly.
"Boom!"
The roar of the motorcycle's engine came from far to near, rapidly approaching.
The two people on the roof listened in disbelief.
Upon hearing the sound clearly, the two simultaneously jerked their heads up.
Their faces full of surprise and joy.
A vehicle is coming!
Li Zhiping hurriedly straightened Li Zhiping's body, frantically waving Li Zhiping's arms crossed to catch Lin An's attention.
"Save... life!"
Heart-wrenching, Li Zhiping screamed loudly, afraid Li Zhiping's shout wasn't loud enough.
With a dry mouth and throat, the voice sounded like a goose having its throat torn.
Lin An turned a deaf ear, driving the motorcycle past with a howl.
So fast that even the zombies besieging the RV didn't have time to react.
"Damn it! Damn it!"
"Why didn't you stop!"
From hope to despair, the man stared blankly at the distant black dot fading away.
"What bullshit!"
"Didn't you see anyone here!?"
Li Zhiping couldn't help but curse loudly, while Wen Ya beside Li Zhiping, although disappointed, quickly recovered mood and seemed to be thinking about something.
The two's gazes suddenly met.
Li Zhiping licked Li Zhiping's dry, cracked lips, lost in thought.
Li Zhiping scratched the back of the neck, not knowing why, Li Zhiping suddenly felt an itch on the body.
So hot, so itchy……
Wen Ya before the eyes suddenly seemed……
Kind of appetizing?
Highway intersection.
"Squeak--"
The tires friction left a long black mark.
Lin An suddenly braked, controlling the motorcycle to make a beautiful drift.
After getting off, Lin An looked far at the RV about four hundred meters behind.
Not intending to be a hero saving the beauty.
After the apocalypse's baptism, even if a beautiful woman died before Lin An, Lin An's brow wouldn't furrow.
Just, there were some doubts.
When Lin An just passed the RV, Lin An felt a faint spiritual energy fluctuation.
Apocalypse equipment?
Or what?
As an Awakened One, Lin An's perception far surpassed that of ordinary people.
Especially after the Doomsday Game started, some items from the 'game' would automatically emit fluctuations.
Like a point of light in the darkness.
"Judgment's Eye!"
Lin An gave a low shout, instantly activating Judgment's Eye to search.
"Human: male (infected status)"
"Player level: 0 (non-Awakened)"
"Human: female (normal)"
"Player level: 1 (non-Awakened)"
"Zombie: ordinary"
"RV: driving prop (damage 22%)"
Dense information poured down like a waterfall.
All information existing within Lin An's field of vision was displayed in detail.
Lin An's gaze narrowed, Lin An carefully focused on the strange item at the center of the information.
"Human: female, player level: 1"
Pupils dilated, Lin An's vision like a zooming telescope quickly captured the scene on the distant RV roof.
On the RV roof, Li Zhiping bent over, coughing incessantly.
While Wen Ya stood alert on the RV roof, right hand behind the back, gripping tightly.
Lin An frowned slightly.
Nothing unusual.
Lin An did not see any similar apocalypse equipment.
On the contrary, Lin An could see that Li Zhiping had been infected, and would likely turn into a zombie in about five minutes.
It seemed Wen Ya's level one was not from equipment.
Lin An was doubtful.
In the Doomsday Game, a player's level can only be increased by killing mutant zombies.
Going from level 0 to level 1 requires killing two mutants.
Level 2 requires killing four.
The woman on the car roof is neither an Awakened One nor could she possibly have killed any monsters.
Yet the information labels her as level 1, and she also possesses a faint psychic fluctuation.
How is that possible?
Unless……
Lin An's expression was strange; he roughly guessed the reason.
His eyes burned with fervor.
