Chapter 1118: It Has Come
"Take a picture here!"
"This thing looks kinda abnormal; could it be this?"
"A rare bustling scene."
Above the second floor, the Awakened Ones of Xiao Peng Squad kept raising their cameras, click-click snapping photos, looking like police collecting evidence at a crime scene.
While flipping over a plaster head with a Western face, the photographer Awakened One couldn't help but keep looking back and forth.
"This thing is just placed on the ground; could it be it.."
Nearly half an hour had passed; from the initial tension and caution to now, nobody was that worried anymore. No attack, no deaths. The whole manor seemed, aside from being a bit gloomy, otherwise normal—they hadn't even seen any bloodstains.
"It probably isn't, right?"
"You've been flipping it back and forth like that; if I were a ghost, I'd have swallowed you whole by now."
In the midst of joking, another Second Level Awakened One, camera in hand, click-click took a few photos of the human head, then felt rather sentimental.
"I feel like this mission is basically to find trouble with that thing."
"You say, could it be the trees in the manor? We've been here so long, nothing's happened."
"Could it be that the ghostly thing isn't inside the house?"
"Tree?"
"If it really is a tree, how long would we have to search?"
"I think maybe that thing only comes out after dark."
During idle chatter, an Awakened One loitering and taking photos in the reception hall heard the noise behind and, somewhat helplessly, rebuked them.
"Just take the picture carefully; where's all this nonsense coming from?"
"We've finished shooting this floor, but there are still several more floors!"
Pay attention, this is a paranormal instance; you don't think it's like the missions Xiao Ge used to lead us on, do you?
Just as the words fell, a sudden clattering sound came from downstairs.
Everyone jumped in shock, instantly becoming alert. Several Awakened Ones even instinctively moved to rush downstairs.
"Downstairs!"
"Did those three people run into it?!"
"Clatter—"
Inside the library on the first floor, Mo Ling stared fixedly at the fallen book covers on the floor.
Lin An and Zhang Tie, who had rushed over upon hearing the sound, arrived at her side almost instantly.
Only saw Mo Ling crouching on the ground, holding a blue-covered novel in her hand, she lifted her head and spoke in a low voice:
"Lin An, I've sensed it!"
"Just now, while I was noting the order of the books on the shelf, several books suddenly fell from behind me."
"At that moment, I sensed the aura of a paranormal entity!"
"But I'm not sure of its level."
Lin An's eyes narrowed; he quickly scanned the library and saw that the three bookshelves held neatly arranged books, while the ones that had fallen to the floor came from the right-hand shelf.
"Unsure of the level... is it appearing now?"
"Is this about to begin?"
Lin An gave a slight nod, then crouched down to look at the few books that had fallen to the ground. There were five in total—novels, magazines, everything.
"No attack on Mo Ling—could it be that her physique avoided it?"
"If that's the case, then it shows the paranormal entity's level isn't high."
At the same time, several Awakened Ones on the second floor rushed into the library upon hearing the sound, appearing tense at the doorway.
"What happened?!"
"Did the ghost appear?"
"No, that thing came out, but it only knocked a few books down."
Mo Ling replied softly, and like Lin An, she gazed at the books on the ground.
Hearing that, the few people were stunned, then let out a relieved breath; seeing the three unharmed, they also realized nothing had happened.
Just after noticing the few books on the ground, they all turned their gazes toward them.
Several of the more quick-witted ones blurted out:
"Books?"
"If the ghost appears here, does it mean we're close to finding its hiding place?"
"Possibly—could there be hidden clues in the books?"
As they spoke, several people grew tense and excited, unable to help but crouch down and flip open the five books on the ground.
However, while they were looking through them, Lin An calmly said:
"No need to flip them."
"It's merely announcing that it's going to kill someone."
"Huh?"
Several people stared blankly at Lin An; they hadn't even glanced at the contents yet, completely not understanding why he said that.
The next second, Lin An casually lifted the books from the ground, pointed at the titles, and said:
"Wind and Snow with You", "We Who Refuse to Be Ordinary", "Fog City", "Contract Theory and Capitalist Society", "Blue Life and Death"..
"Read the last characters together."
A few seconds later, those who suddenly grasped Lin An's meaning only felt a chill down their backs, and the books in their hands instinctively fell to the ground.
"We.. are all going to die?!"
On the third floor of the mountain villa, a Second Level Awakened One following Xiao Peng quickly pressed the shutter to take a photo of the bedroom, then suddenly startled.
"Xiao Ge, I think I heard some movement downstairs!?"
"Shall we go down and take a look?"
He exclaimed. For an Awakened One, even if separated by two floorboards, he still heard the footsteps rushing downstairs.
However, after shouting several times, he found Xiao Peng standing dazedly at the bedroom bathroom door.
"Xiao Ge!?"
Suddenly, he became nervous.
The Awakened One holding the camera spoke up nervously; before he could think of anything bad in his mind, Xiao Peng finally spoke in a low voice:
"Never mind! Come over and take a picture here!"
"This place is not right!"
Seeing that Xiao Peng was unharmed, the Awakened One holding the camera finally breathed a sigh of relief and hurried over.
However, just like Xiao Peng, as he reached the bathroom door, a flash of fear crossed his eyes.
Only to see dry, bloody footprints lining the ceiling of the bathroom; those tiny footprints looked like a child's, stretching along the wall until they disappeared outside the window.
It was as if a child had once walked upside down on the ceiling.
