Chapter 125: Slaughter Among the Zombies
Layer restaurant.
Dust filled the sky, falling like the white scraps behind the door.
At the instant the Spider Maker died, the previously blocked team communications suddenly rang out.
Zi-
"Lin An, a student on the blue truck started the car; they seem ready to return to base."
The message was repeated twice; the second time, Mo Ling's tone sounded a bit anxious.
The communication came from 19 minutes ago, when the monster first appeared.
In an instant, Lin An suddenly understood why the monster had shown itself voluntarily.
He abruptly turned his head toward the window, but this angle couldn't see the vehicle where the students were.
"Gao Tian! Stay and search the 4th floor! See if there's anything here!"
"Power burst!"
Lin An hesitated not, directly activating his skill to rush toward the nearest window.
He had earlier guessed that spider eggs had been bred onto the supplies, and among the accompanying students, someone was likely already parasitized.
He originally thought that even if parasitized, there wouldn't be much danger, but given the information now known, none of this is that simple.
"Crack!"
The glass shattered; Lin An straight-up smashed through the glass and jumped from the fourth floor.
Outside the window, dark clouds covered the sky, and the wind drove a heavy downpour.
A flash of lightning illuminated his eyes, reflecting the dense zombie horde on the distant road.
A vague unease stirred in his heart.
If the Spider Maker had been lying from the very first word...
Perhaps even in his past life, no one had ever seen a scene of zombies fighting each other.
One side were the zombies Mo Ling could still control; the other side were zombies with red spiders burrowing out of their heads.
The red spider seemed to have a tremendous attraction for the uncontrolled zombies.
Zombies that would never attack each other, as if greatly tempted, frenziedly gnawed at the corpse horde controlled by the red spider.
These fearless dead tore flesh from each other, endlessly swallowing rotting chunks of meat.
In the most fiercely bitten area, some zombies' bellies bulged, desperately stuffing flesh dug from corpses into their throats, only to drop it when their throats overflowed.
Heads were torn off, sharp fingers jabbed into the eye sockets, and brains were scooped out.
The battle between zombies was incredibly brutal; everywhere lay skulls recently twisted off, smashed, and completely devoured.
Mo Ling's face turned pale; the zombies beside her charged like loyal soldiers toward the battlefield.
It wasn't fear of the hellish scene before her; her mental power, after continuous use, was nearly exhausted.
Her head felt like it would split.
Although the number of zombies controlled by the red spider wasn't large.
But strangely, each time a red-spider-controlled zombie died, those tiny spiders would leap onto another zombie before death, instantly taking control.
Uneradicable, with a constant stream of reinforcements, the red‑spider side clearly held the advantage.
Soon, of the thousands of zombies, only a faint remnant would remain—but all of them would be under the red spider's control.
"Lin An!"
It wasn't just the umpteenth call; the team channel was constantly filled with a buzzing sound.
Like a girl who didn't know what fear was, her eyes showed anxiety for the first time.
Should we give up?
If she kept blocking like this, she had no doubt the red‑spider‑controlled zombies would eviscerate her.
There had been no news from Lin An's side, and before leaving she never imagined such a turn of events.
On the blue truck, the man who had been sitting upright in the driver's cabin suddenly stiffened and stood; a red spider crawled out of his eye socket and then burrowed back in.
"Bang!"
The truck's rear door opened, and five students, moving stiffly, jumped out of the cargo area.
Three boys and two girls, their eyes dull and lifeless.
They fumbled in the cargo area for half a day, finding an iron rod and a simple long sword, then marched mechanically, with strange steps, toward where the zombie horde fought.
The red spider on their heads occasionally flashed red, like a signal light implanted in the brain.
Squelch-squelch-squelch-squelch
Pairs of sneakers stepped in puddles, splashing murky rainwater.
Mo Ling heard the sound and looked toward the rear of the red‑spider zombie horde; five students raised their weapons and charged forward like marionettes.
These controlled humans differed from zombies that only know to bite what's in front; their steps were strange yet uniform, precisely flanking the zombie horde to approach Mo Ling.
Her brows knitted tight.
Mo Ling hesitated not, drawing a short dagger from her waist and glaring at the five who had circled the zombie horde.
They were fast—within ten seconds they could cross the horde and surround her.
As a shared body, Mo Ling, despite having the ability to command fearless zombies, also lost the combat power of an Awakened One.
Even if her rank rose to 1 Fourth Rank, her physical quality still showed no improvement.
Her strength now was no different from that of an ordinary girl.
Even under the clash of death‑qi and life‑force, her physique was somewhat worse than an average player's.
The rain was icy, waves of cold seeping into the bones.
Mo Ling bent slightly, half‑drawing her right hand back to grip the dagger, like a wary beast.
「 huh-huh-huh 」
Footsteps approached, the weapons in the five people's hands faintly reflected in the dim light.
In the final few steps, the controlled student moved with extreme speed, leaping high under the urging of the red light above his head to attack the girl.
「 whoosh! 」
The blade and iron rod swung simultaneously, blocking her dodging space.
「 drip. 」
Crimson blood dripped into the puddle, splashing ripples that spread and bloomed.
