Chapter 18: Dream Party Inn
After twisting off the iron lock on the rooftop small door with his bare hands, Lin An led Wen Ya carefully into the inn via the fire escape.
It is already afternoon, and the windows of the privacy‑focused inn are tightly shut.
Without electricity, the interior is somewhat dim.
On the ninth‑floor corridor, a few zombies wander aimlessly.
The red carpet has many dark‑red spots.
On the corridor walls covered with exquisite wallpaper, blood spatter forms patterns.
A female zombie with only an upper body crawls back and forth, dragging itself with one hand.
Behind her, a male‑student‑looking zombie cradles a plump severed leg and gnaws on it, following her step for step.
He looks like her boyfriend.
What a warm scene.
No surprise, they are probably a campus couple who came here to get a room.
Lin An quickly locked onto his target, preparing to clear the entire floor.
The zombies wandering outside, exposing the target, are not scary.
The real danger is the zombies hidden inside the rooms.
A straight forward thrust.
Lin An darted out from the stairwell corner, his blade stabbing into the male‑student zombie's brain like a sharp sword.
One strike, fatal.
The zombie, its brain tissue destroyed, swayed and fell.
Before the female zombie crawling at its feet could react, Lin An stomped and crushed her skull.
"Roar!"
The zombies not far down the corridor heard the sound, snapped their heads around and howled.
Unlike the slow zombies in movies, the zombies in the Doomsday Game move extremely fast.
The remaining zombies surged wildly toward Lin An.
An upward diagonal slash.
Brandishing his blade, Lin An slew one zombie then stepped forward.
A reverse cut.
Shifting his stance, two flashes of blade light vanished.
With precise force control, he easily cut the remaining zombies in half.
The combat skills honed over three years of the apocalypse in his past life, combined with his strong physique.
In close combat, Lin An is as efficient and ruthless as a killing machine.
In less than three seconds, the zombies on the corridor were cleared out.
Wen Ya gripped a fire axe with both hands, following behind Lin An.
She had originally wanted to help Lin An finish off any survivors, to prevent any from escaping.
Seeing the ground littered with corpses split in half, she reluctantly lowered her axe.
She felt she really wasn't useful at all.
"I'll look for a room key."
"Maybe I want to show I'm somewhat useful."
Wen Ya hurriedly crouched, forcing herself to endure the discomfort as she rummaged through the corpses.
Lin An tilted his head slightly, his gaze at her somewhat strange.
"Without electricity, what's the use of looking for a room key?"
Ignoring Wen Ya's embarrassment, Lin An grabbed the door lock with his bare hands.
The metal deformed, and the door handle was easily pulled out.
Nothing is simpler than forcing a door open.
"Room 909."
He entered the room.
The room isn't large; a water bed sits in the center, and the walls are hung with many erotic pictures.
A hanging chair, a yoga ball, and even several black straps hanging from the ceiling lie at the head of the bed.
Wen Ya followed behind Lin An, her face flushed and head lowered.
Although she wasn't sure what they were for, they looked impressive.
"Just stay here and rest; I still have things to do."
After confirming no zombies were hiding in the room, Lin An planned to let Wen Ya rest there.
The zombies on the ninth floor have been cleared; this place is temporarily safe.
"Where are you going?"
"I don't need—"
Wen Ya lifted her head, instinctively wanting to ask Lin An where he was going and why he didn't want her to follow.
"I still have things to do."
"The space here is too small; it's not safe for you to follow me."
Lin An's coming to Dream Pa Inn isn't merely to find a place close to the hospital.
If he remembers correctly, there is a mutant zombie here.
His current Awakened One rank and player level are only one mutant away from leveling up.
Once he reaches level 1, his strength will undergo another qualitative leap.
When he later fights the Mutant.
Wen Ya following him will only be a burden.
Her true role is that after a few days of awakening, Lin An will bring her to participate in the battle against the Suturer.
Or later, when building a force, she could serve as logistics personnel providing mental strength.
Wen Ya didn't say anything more; she wasn't so foolish as to like courting death and showing off like a female side character in movies.
Lin An walked out of the room, leaving some food for her.
Along the way, he kept hearing Wen Ya's stomach growling.
But Wen Ya never spoke.
When they reached the end of the hallway, Lin An was about to go downstairs when he heard a strange sound.
Click.
The door of Room 901 suddenly opened, and a middle-aged man brought a young woman out from inside.
"Hello, comrade!"
The middle-aged man was somewhat excited, his face full of stubble.
He instinctively wanted to shake Lin An's hand, appearing to be someone who works as a butler.
Lin An stepped back, his expression cold.
The man's outstretched hand hung in midair, somewhat awkward.
"Please allow me to introduce myself."
The middle-aged man habitually coughed lightly twice, while the young woman beside him furtively sized up Lin An.
"I'm the head of the Forestry Bureau, my name is Wang Jianguo."
"Big brother, I'm Xiu Xiu."
The woman's voice was soft and coquettish, and she couldn't help but give Lin An a flirtatious glance while speaking.
She pulled down her clothing in front by two inches.
Lin An remained unmoved, and roughly understood what relationship the two had.
"First of all, thank you, comrade, for breaking our siege; I am deeply grateful……"
"Swish."
Lin An pointed his blade at the middle-aged man's throat, cutting off his long-winded official tone.
This person before him is likely a government official, talking too much.
"Just say what you need."
A hint of killing intent made the two retreat two steps, almost losing their balance.
After the middle-aged man came to his senses, a flash of dissatisfaction crossed his eyes.
He usually held a high position and was respected; whoever saw him would not fail to flatter him.
But these past days he's been trapped in the room, unaware of what the outside world has become.
Having long resided in official circles, he still knows how to read the situation.
Just now, through the peephole, he saw Lin An raise his hand and slash, easily disposing of the Zombies that had besieged him.
He then conceived the idea of having Lin An protect him.
If there are many such monsters outside, then the only hope of getting out lies with Lin An.
"Comrade, as long as you're willing to escort me to the government office, I will surely request a commendation for you from my superiors."
"This will be of considerable benefit to your future development; later obtaining a government post won't be difficult."
Wang Jianguo suppressed his displeasure and spoke to Lin An in a fawning manner.
Lin An snorted, sheathed his blade, turned and walked away, too lazy to pay attention.
Seeing Lin An unmoved, Wang Jianguo felt a sudden surge of anger.
After all, I'm also a leader; what's this attitude of yours?
"Young man, think it over. I still carry some weight in the Forestry Bureau."
"Now the phones are down, and the government people can't find me, so I came to you for help."
"Such a good opportunity, don't waste it."
Xiu Xiu also leaned against Wang Jianguo and chimed in.
"Big brother, Director Wang's position is not ordinary. If you're willing to take us with you, you can ask for anything later."
Director Wang, hearing Xiu Xiu speak up to persuade, nodded satisfiedly.
Lin An gave a cold snort.
Idiot.
The government?
If nothing unexpected happens, the Government Building has now become the Zombies' lair; according to his Past Life Memory, there are at least ten Mutants holed up inside.
Seeing Lin An's steps not pause in the slightest, Xiu Xiu's face turned anxious.
The Zombie corpses in the hallway were truly frightening.
"Director Wang, why don't we follow behind him?"
Wang Jianguo's face darkened, and he nodded.
These past two days he's witnessed the horrifying scene of Zombies eating people; if Lin An hadn't cleared the hallway, he wouldn't dare go out no matter what.
Seeing Lin An walk farther and farther away, the two hurriedly trotted to follow behind him.
Eight floors.
Lin An shoved open the heavy fire door, his eyes narrowing.
In the room at the center of the corridor, several dozen zombies relentlessly pounded the door.
It sounded like someone inside had made a commotion.
Inside the room, a couple stared in terror, huddled in the corner.
The door frame had come loose from the zombies' overnight pounding, and the zombies outside were about to break in.
The cheap wooden door already bore a fist‑sized hole.
"Yu Shihao, what should we do?!"
The girl, voice trembling, asked the boy beside her, her whole body shaking.
Yu Shihao turned his head to glance at her, his face full of hatred.
"You ask me what to do?!"
"You slut, you're on your period and still came to hook up with me—are you brain‑dead?!"
In his rage, Yu Shihao slapped the girl across the face, his expression full of resentment, then kicked her.
After the zombie outbreak, he, who usually watched movies a lot, immediately chose to lock the door from inside and hide.
According to his observation, there were still quite a few living guests on this floor.
Right now, the zombies have been pounding only their door since yesterday, not anyone else's.
This is clearly because the girl beside him reeks of blood!
"Yu Shihao, you're not like this! You said you'd love and protect me."
The girl clung to the last shred of hope, her face streaked with tears.
She subconsciously made excuses for Yu Shihao—maybe he's just too scared?
"Get lost, you motherf—er. If it weren't for the fact that you're a virgin, I wouldn't even look at you."
(Her) heart was like dead ashes.
Yu Shihao anxiously pressed the new phone in his hand, trying to get a call through.
It had no effect.
A phone with no signal is useless as a brick.
In frustration, he couldn't help smashing the phone on the ground to vent.
The phone had been bought by the girl through her hard‑earned savings.
Yu Shihao told her the phone was useless, and that if he wanted to stay in touch often, she should buy him a new one.
Shards littered the floor.
The girl, incredulous, covered her face and silently sobbed, her grip on the boy's arm slowly loosening.
The girl's name was Zhou Fang, and she and the boy were university classmates.
The boy had pursued her for a long time, usually gentle and refined, asking after her well‑being.
She, not particularly good‑looking, usually felt inferior; this was the first time anyone had treated her so well, and moved, she agreed to Yu Shihao's courtship.
Before the apocalypse broke out, the boy coaxed her to come out, saying this place was a private theater.
Inexperienced, she agreed in a daze.
Little did she expect that when danger struck, Yu Shihao would reveal his true colors.
"Roar!"
The zombies howled; a rotting arm reached through the hole from outside.
The boy stared in terror at that hand.
Can't wait any longer!
The girl, head down and sobbing, didn't notice the boy beside her suddenly rise, his eyes flashing with malice.
He pulled a small knife from his keychain and stabbed straight at Wang Fang's ankle!
"You slut, didn't you say you loved me?"
With a savage grin, he stepped on her other leg, doing the same.
"If you love me, die for me."
