Chapter 1824: Doubts of the Blood-Colored Eye

~6 min read 1,124 words

The faint buzzing sound, like the world's whisper, echoed continuously.

Upon appearing outside, without waiting for Number 77's habitual glance toward the distant Star Core Silver Disk, a sudden voice rang out from the void beside him.

"Number 77."

"Is this the person you want to save? Do you know the Executor has already set its sights on you?"

The voice was calm, yet carried an icy skepticism.

As the words fell, a eyeball roughly the size of Number 77 slowly emerged from the void filled with azure spiritual energy.

Unlike Number 77's silver-blue "shell."

The giant eyeball that spoke was entirely crimson, its light like a blood-colored star, instantly staining the surrounding space with an oppressive scarlet. Even without deliberate release, the space around this Blood-Colored Eye began to twist the moment it appeared.

Such aura, without doubt, marked another senior Overseer Committee member.

"Are you following me?"

Turning sharply, Number 77's silver-blue eyes coldly regarded the suddenly appearing Blood-Colored Eye. Without answering the question, Number 77 openly displayed his coldness and vigilance, instantly laying a barrier around them.

Seeing Number 77 so cautious,

the Blood-Colored Eye, however, spoke indifferently without concern:

"It seems you know what you're doing."

"But who do you think you can fool? Everything you've done is recorded."

The atmosphere suddenly tensed.

Between them, it seemed to instantly fill with the smell of gunpowder.

However, soon the Blood-Colored Eye that had coldly questioned Number 77 let out a light laugh, as if to ease the tension, and spoke again.

"Alright, no need to be nervous."

"I didn't follow you; I was merely curious, I looked up the records of those who entered the Silver Core during this period, and incidentally saw the appeal from the Spiral Star System."

"Tsk tsk."

Raising his eyelid slightly, the Blood-Colored Eye made no effort to hide his astonishment, uttering a "tsk tsk."

"You've caused quite a stir; the Overseers of the thirty-seven surrounding star fields all know you've crossed four domains, slain three Overseers, just to bring out a Fourth Stage."

"If you kill one more, the Committee will come after you."

"I'm genuinely curious—what's so special about that worm that lets you.."

"My action complies with the System Rules!"

Before the Blood-Colored Eye could say more, Number 77 coldly cut him off.

Although he realized the Blood-Colored Eye, also a Committee member, wasn't here to cause him trouble, he naturally wouldn't give them a handle.

The eyeball blinked, the Blood-Colored Eye slightly startled; seeing Number 77's demeanor, the strangeness in his gaze deepened.

He also didn't mind being interrupted, smiled, and spoke again:

"Does it comply with the rules?"

"Number 77, we both know the Executor's mad dogs won't care about that; once they set their sights on you, they'll eventually find you."

"Even if you're a Committee member, it's no exception."

"But..."

The conversation shifted.

"\"As compensation for the question, I've erased a record for you. \"

Having said that, the Blood-Colored Eye vaguely waved the tendrils behind him, the eye at his rear casually sweeping toward the distant Star Core.

They exchanged a frank gaze.

He likewise didn't clearly state what he had done, but he believed Number 77 would understand his meaning.

As expected.

As his words fell, Number 77's eyes flashed with surprise. Their conversation lacked beginning or end, but the Blood-Colored Eye's final remark let him grasp its implication.

"Compensation? He erased a record for him?"

"What do you want to know?"

"Want to know what you intend to do."

A quick exchange of questions and answers.

Between the clever, words need no waste; seeing Number 77 understand his meaning, the Blood-Colored Eye chuckled, then turned to look at him seriously, the smile fading:

"An Overseer Committee member, unwilling to spare crossing star fields, forcibly slaying System Overseers to save a person! Not content with killing and saving, you even took the System's reward for that kid, and used your authority to erase the System's rating."

"Such a great cost! If you were saving a Seventh Stage, I could still understand!"

"But a Fourth Stage? An ordinary human in a trial zone, an ant so tiny it couldn't be tinier?"

The voice paused; the Blood-Colored Eye gazed solemnly at Number 77's eyeball, revealing a rare expression of disbelief.

Upon noticing this, his shock was no less than a stellar quake! Especially after he promptly pulled up Lin An's data, his incredulity soared to its peak!

Too absurd!

Number 77's actions are no less than a super-civilization unleashing an Epic Tier interstellar war just to rescue a mouse from a cave!

"Number 77! I don't believe someone of your rank would do something pointless!"

"I examined that kid's data: a Fourth Stage Peak Body System, a Fourth Stage Intermediate Rule System, seemingly a Faith System, manifesting at around B-rank for the masses."

"The sole highlight was luckily obtaining a Perfect Evaluation during the Third Stage, earning a Cataclysm Rule Reward!"

"But..!"

Lunging forward, rapid-fire questioning, the Blood-Colored Eye seemed unwilling to give Number 77 any room to rebut, flying straight to his eyeball and speaking each word deliberately:

"That kid's Perfect Evaluation is fake! His opponents then were merely a bunch of biological trash, a bunch of waste! They hardly qualified as a perfect trial!"

"He shouldn't have received the Cataclysm Reward, nor should he have relied on the Cataclysm Rule to achieve 'Shatter Star' at the Fourth Stage!"

Without the disaster-change rules, he would have already died ten thousand times later!

Question after question, filled with confusion. Trying to see something from No. 77's eyes, the Blood-Red Eye took a deep breath:

Is the disaster reward something you deliberately gave him, right?

What on earth do you want to do!? Back then, that kid was only at the Third Fourth Rank!

After his words fell, although the Blood-Red Eye was an Overseer Committee member, upon looking up this record, his heart could not help but be stirred by huge waves!

He didn't know what No. 77 wanted to do! But such a crazy act made him unable to resist wanting to find out why No. 77 did this!

He even did not hesitate to strike out and erase this record, just to get the answer!

However, this was beyond the Blood-Red Eye's expectations.

Only seen under his steadfast gaze, the silver-blue eyes of No. 77 showed no emotional fluctuation at all.

I gave it?

No..

If I say it was the System that gave it to him, would you believe me? I didn't help him cheat; it's the System that's 'helping' him.

After his words fell, the Blood-Red Eye stared in shock, the tremor in his eyes intensifying. It was as if this answer completely surpassed his imagination!
