Chapter 1889: A Straw to Cling To

~7 min read 1,225 words

He seemed like a madman.

Unable to bear such a massive blow, Andre seemed to have completely lost his mind.

People trembled watching the insane Andre, finding the scene utterly bleak and hopeless.

Just as a fox mourns a rabbit's death, though grief was felt, someone hesitated to catch Andre staggering down from midair, but fear of Lin An's terror made them abandon the attempt.

Silence fell over the scene, save for the earth's continual tremors mourning.

Lin An withdrew his gaze, gave a slight shake of his head, and even his peripheral glance at the 'crazed' Andre ceased to notice him.

He never saw Andre as a threat from beginning to end; though slightly abnormal, it wasn't worth his time.

He ignored people's fearful looks.

Lin An calmly looked at everyone:

"You should be glad—glad that I am human just like you."

Hiding the indifference in his eyes, Lin An didn't bother whether the various national representatives understood him; the next second he turned his gaze to the survivor squad trying to sneak into the copy right under his nose.

"I almost forgot you."

His words fell, and the survivors who had harbored no hope from beginning to end instantly paled; the bodies sneaking into the copy shook violently.

"Damn it! That monster noticed them again!"

They had thought Andre could at least buy Lin An a bit of time, but they couldn't even last a second.

"Run!!! Run fast!!!"

In an instant, all survivors screamed and surged into the copy, while those inside hastily shut the door, terrified that Lin An would pursue and slaughter them.

People are selfish; driven by a fierce will to survive, even if crushed until bleeding, the survivors outside the door refuse to relent.

"Open it up!!! Let us in! Let me in!!! You damn bastards!!!"

"Don't let them in! Close the door now! Ah! If we don't shut it, we'll all die!"

Confronted by Lin An's threat, the survivors instantly split into two sides.

Those inside strained to shut the door, hating their own kin as bitterly as a father's enemy, wishing to crush them.

Those outside the door frantically tried to open the passage, reaching in with both hands wishing to drag their own kin out to feed Lin An.

Such chaos instantly left the global survivors dazed and stunned.

Is this the gods? Is this the very gods who, just minutes ago, were touting humanity's salvation and wielding limitless power?

Before that man, they were nothing but cowardly, death-fearing rats—utterly shocking.

Escaping is futile.

Soon, a distance of under a kilometer was, for Lin An, nothing more than a blink to cross.

Death descended, icy darkness looming overhead.

As Lin An's presence appeared behind them, the sheep-headed person who had barely managed to squeeze half his body into the passage instantly went rigid and collapsed.

His body shuddered, as if unleashing his fastest reaction ever; without hesitation he twisted his head and wailed for mercy:

"Lin God!! Spare us! We swear we'll never emerge again!!"

"It's our stupid arrogance, not knowing your greatness! It's our vile baseness—we're beasts, dogs! We're the lowliest ants!"

"Spare us! You can make me do anything! Killing me would only soil your hand! Killing those humans who believe in us would also taint you! As long as you don't kill me, I'll kill them for you!!"

His words were incoherent, his pleas for mercy tumbling out in haste.

Hearing the sheep-headed monster beg for mercy in under a second, spitting out words like a frantic rap, Lin An almost couldn't help laughing.

He's also a talent.

But he showed no mercy; just as the sheep-headed monster mistakenly believed his pleas had worked and wanted to add more,

The next second, Lin An gave a soft chuckle and instantly crushed the creature's upper body.

"You have no right to bargain with me."

After crushing a few nearby survivors with one hand, Lin An struck again, violently seizing both sides of the passage.

Like a monster bursting through a door, with a tremendous roar he forcibly pried open the passage—as if spreading a virgin's legs—causing the survivors inside to lose their wits, nearly fainting from terror.

"Shut the door!! No!! Blow the door!! Lin An's about to storm in!!"

"Run! Hurry!!"

Inside the Heaven copy, crowds of survivors turned and fled without hesitation, even though they could still have shut the door; but just glimpsing that mask outside left them feeling like a cat seeing a ghost—utterly devoid of courage.

No one dared to block Lin An; they only wished to outrun their fellows, perhaps buying a few more seconds.

Watching the gods scatter and flee inside the Heaven copy, Lin An found the scene quite amusing.

"Have you ever heard a nursery rhyme?"

"For instance... 'Little Bunny, Be Good'?"

"Bomm!!!"

The repulsion rule instantly kicked in, as if tearing a hole in the sky.

He ignored the chaotic spatial turbulence at the rift.

In the eyes of believers worldwide, stunned beyond belief, Lin An stormed into Heaven like a devil, then vanished at random from the broadcast.

Soon, the gods' anguished cries rang out again from the screen.

Lin An began slaughtering the gods.

"Hah... hah..."

Panting heavily, above the Egyptian war zone, the surviving national representatives all stared fearfully at that hideous rift.

The lingering shock had not yet subsided.

Through the shifting light, they seemed to see the gods inside the copy enduring whatever slaughter was unfolding.

They felt afraid and wanted to flee, but under unimaginable pressure they could only stand frozen like lambs awaiting the slaughter.

No one knows when Lin An will come out.

Perhaps in the next second, whoever dares to flee will die even more miserably.

Among the Fourth Stage, the six remaining Fourth Stage High Level officials of the Soviet theater, their faces pale, looked at each other, their faces full of bitter, grim smiles.

It is obvious they lost the bet, losing so thoroughly, so ridiculously.

They were like clowns, confidently choosing the path to the most miserable death. If they had known today would happen, they would absolutely not have betrayed Lin An!

What Andre... what gods... what damn Fifth Stage! In front of Lin An they are all mud chickens and tile dogs, not worth a blow!

If there were regret medicine in this world, they would be willing to pay anything to buy it!

Unfortunately, regret is now meaningless.

"If we had insisted back then on standing by his side, would it... would it..."

His voice trembled, filled with regret.

Among the six Soviet high-level officials, the middle-aged man who first made contact with the escapees painfully clutched his own head, wishing he could kill his former self.

Although Lin An is still dealing with the escapees and it hasn't turned to them yet, even with your toes you can tell that perhaps after today, the Soviet Union will cease to exist! Hateful, hateful that they persisted for so long, once being so 'intimately close' with Lin An!

"Regret is useless now, I'm just thinking, what else can we do to make up for..."

"Would suicide be useful? If we give up resistance and apologize with our deaths, will Lin An... spare us?"

"It's useless, you still don't understand that man? Don't even mention our apology, even if...!"

"Wait!"
