Chapter 1918: Cognition Overlimit
In the endless deep space where the Northern Crown Great Wall extends its arm, the giant eye of No. 77, which casually sliced open a spatial passage, was just about to drill into the passage, heading to the mission location released by the system.
The next second, a sudden system warning startled him in place.
"Warning! Warning!"
"Warning: Overseer No. a077, the system has detected abnormal cognition in your managed area! Please handle it immediately!"
"The target lifeform's cognition level exceeds the theoretical maximum! Possibly triggering a C‑class breach! Please verify and handle it immediately!"
The scarlet alarm flashed rapidly.
After No. 77 stopped the transmission, his heart was greatly shaken!
"Cognition overlimit!? What a joke—how could such a problem appear in his territory!?"
The so‑called cognition overlimit means an individual's understanding of the world far exceeds their own level, and under normal circumstances it only happens to Overseers.
Within the system, many Overseers unwilling to remain eternal slaves of the system will use their privileges to steal system information in order to find a way to escape!
Taking a C‑class warning as an example, it is roughly equivalent to a Fifth Stage knowing Seventh Stage matters, which the system will judge as cognition overlimit!
Instinctively, No. 77's eyes filled with rage, assuming some clueless Overseer had invaded his territory and was trying to make him take the blame!
"Looking for death!"
No. 77 glared at the system information.
But the next second, after seeing the abnormal player information marked by the system, No. 77 suddenly froze, as if he had seen a ghost, standing there stunned.
All that could be seen in the system‑marked information was a name that should never appear, flashing nonstop.
"That's…"
"Lin An?!"
"How could it be him?!"
???
No. 77 stared at the endless warnings from the system, and for a moment he actually didn't know what to do!
Damn it, what the hell is this kid up to?!
Shocked and angry, he didn't bother to think further; a few seconds later, No. 77 accepted the task at the fastest speed, and after a brief hesitation he ruthlessly decided to upload a report of no abnormality.
Damn, he just placed a bet on Lin An—how could he possibly give up so easily!
Soon the alarm was cleared.
In the void, watching the system quiet down, No. 77 finally let out a breath of relief.
After regaining his composure, he repeatedly glanced at Lin An's information panel, his eyes flickering with hesitation.
He didn't know how Lin An had triggered the warning, which caught him off guard.
But…
"Being able to trigger a warning at the Fourth Stage shows this kid must have guessed something tremendous…"
"I don't know if it's good or bad; maybe… it's a good thing?"
His gaze flickered.
As an Overseer, he naturally should erase Lin An to resolve the anomaly.
But as No. 77, the more "abnormal" Lin An's performance, the greater his potential, proving his choice was correct!
"Forget it, let this kid keep stirring things up. This stagnant pool needed a variable anyway."
"I don't need to ask anything either, lest I trigger a warning for no reason…"
No. 77 muttered to himself, then simply stopped worrying about what was happening to Lin An. As long as it was within his authority, he could keep Lin An safe no matter how recklessly he acted.
Shaking the tendrils behind him, No. 77 let out a light sigh, intending only to continue his own task.
Perhaps even Lin An himself doesn't know that, as an Overseer, No. 77 clearly intends to "cultivate" him, yet makes him figure everything out on his own—not as a test.
But some things, once known, become a disaster...
"Lin An!! Lin An!!!! Wake up!!"
"Damn it!! Everyone run!! Get out of here!!"
"Boom boom boom! Boom!!"
In the midst of terrifying angry roars, wave after wave of astonishing pressure erupted violently from Lin An's surroundings, like an invisible giant hand centered on the building, smashing everything around it to pieces.
Closest to Lin An, Jiang Haochen's chest caved in as he vomited a mouthful of blood with a wow, feeling as if Lin An were about to crush him to death.
Indeed, even if Lin An remained motionless and did nothing, just the leaking spiritual power would soon pulverize him into minced meat!
Seeing Lin An seemingly turned into the source of disaster, Jiang Haochen instantly felt a wave of regret—if this continued, not only might his Safe Zone not be saved, even his own life would be in jeopardy!
Within the chaotic Safe Zone, crowds fled in all directions, everywhere filled with screams of extreme terror.
Jiang Haochen's eyes were nearly bursting as he prepared to unleash his Meme talent in a desperate bid; in an instant, Lin An snapped his eyes open, and the leaking spiritual power around him instantly receded like flowing water back into his body.
What a swift reaction.
The moment Lin An regained consciousness, he realized he had almost destroyed this place.
(I seem to have… fallen into some kind of thought spiral?)
Lin An reached out and grabbed, instantly pulling Jiang Haochen straight in front of him, signaling that he was back to normal.
At the same time, his Omniscient Domain suddenly unfolded, enveloping both the building he had destroyed and the Safe Zone.
Under the gaze of countless Survivors who looked on as if witnessing a miracle, Lin An simply used his spiritual power to swiftly restore the entire Safe Zone to its original state.
"Whoosh whoosh whoosh‑whoosh"
Broken stones rejoined, steel bars reconnected, all things were drawn together.
Soon, the building originally destroyed by his spiritual power returned to its original shape; aside from a few tiny cracks, everything looked as if nothing had happened.
"You're awake!!"
Watching Ling An, who had regained clarity and also helped restore his Safe Zone, Jiang Haochen let out a great sigh of relief, feeling as if he had truly walked through the Gates of Ghosts.
Damn, how twisted—is this his power?!
"Sorry."
A few seconds later, Lin An, who rarely apologized, gave a slight nod toward the still-startled Jiang Haochen.
"I was just thinking about things, but didn't you say you had a solution? What way can get rid of the meme on me?"
Lin An stared seriously at Jiang Haochen, who hardly dared to stay near him.
He stopped wondering which problems had dragged him into the mental whirlpool; after coming to his senses, Lin An also vaguely realized that his earlier state had completely exceeded his control.
It was as if he had touched an unknowable answer—his thoughts, his brain overloaded in a short span, falling into a dead loop.
I don't know if it was from his recent thinking, but he unintentionally came up with a rough equation about the ultimate problem, and when he subconsciously 'plugged in the calculation,' it overloaded outright.
Though he got no answer—and could never get one, just like trying to calculate pi.
But...
Vaguely, Lin An felt he had gained a deeper understanding of the essence of his world and the truth of the apocalypse.
"Yes, of course there is—you just... never mind."
He swallowed dryly; seeing Lin An ask about his meme, Jiang Haochen hurriedly spoke up.
