Chapter 1925: Fire Seed Convergence 3

~7 min read 1,301 words

Akua shouted in fear, even the cabin door in his hands was deformed by his grip.

His wounds hadn't healed yet, but he was brought here by the Safe Zone's High Level. Faced with a trapped Fourth Stage Sea Beast, any Awakened One would inevitably feel greed.

Seeing Akua refuse to jump down no matter what, the leader, a Third Stage Leader, instantly turned cold, grabbed a woman from the cabin, and held her aloft outside.

"Jump down! Kill that monster!"

"You won't die from falling! Akua! Didn't we make you jump from high places many times!? You can even fly!"

"Think it over—if you dare refuse us again, I'll throw this woman down! You won't die, but she might!"

Having no patience left, as the Indian War Zone's interior grew ever more chaotic, the man clearly understood that this Fourth Stage Sea Beast most likely to be killed by "them" would be a staggering fortune! Once this job is done, no matter how chaotic the world becomes, they'll be able to live in comfort!

Nobody knows how many people have their eyes on this place; he doesn't want to wait another second!

"No! Don't! Please, let her go, let her go! Don't, Akua doesn't want to die!"

Under continuous threats, Akua was on the verge of collapse; this big boy cried while desperately pleading for them to spare his clanspeople.

He had no relatives left; these clanspeople were the only ones he still cared about.

He really wanted to stop all this, but he could feel that jumping down would truly kill him! The pressure from the Fourth Stage made him feel, for the first time in his life, a threat beyond his comprehension.

Just looking at the monster's enormous body, he could realize that its strength was absolutely beyond his ability to match!

The monster is so huge, even a mountain couldn't crush it! He's so tiny, he's bound to die!

"Spare them?"

Seeing Akua actually dare to resist them, even showing resistance for the first time.

The leader, a Third Stage, gave a cold chuckle and spoke expressionlessly:

"Akua, remember, it's not that we won't spare your clanspeople, nor is it me who killed them. Rather.."

"You!"

As the words fell, the man, full of mockery, looked at Akua—who clearly had the strength to kill them all but was threatened by a gun—only to see his right hand loosen, and the girl in his hand scream as she fell desperately, like a bird dropped into water.

"A Luo! A Luo!!"

Akua trembled all over, shouting down while clutching the cabin door like a madman, one hand grasping at the air as if trying to scoop up the moon.

Kneeling by the hatch, his whole body trembled, he wept with heart-wrenching sorrow.

He wanted to jump down with the girl, but he was too afraid! He understood nothing; he was essentially just a village boy, still a child!

His heart was tormented by despair.

Tears streaming, Akua turned and kowtowed to the people inside the cabin, his eyes red as he pleaded.

"No.. don't do this! I beg you, please quickly save A Luo!"

It would take a few seconds to fall; he knew these people could also fly, and if they wanted to save, they could definitely bring the person back!

However, his pleas were in vain.

Among the ranks, a white-clothed man of Third Stage Junior followed with a sneer, crouching down to slap his face repeatedly.

"Coward."

"You keep saying your clanspeople are important to you, that you'll protect everyone."

"Come on! Let your clanspeople see just what kind of coward your protector god Akua is, what kind of weakling!"

As he spoke, the man seized another elder, the old clan leader who had come to look after Akua.

"Akua, you can't fly? You don't dare jump down to save someone?"

"Remember, it's you who killed your clanspeople; even in death they won't forgive you, they'll hate you for life!"

Having said that, the white-clothed man shoved the elder out of the cabin without hesitation.

"No! Don't!"

Seeing the clan leader he loved most also about to be thrown down, Akua's eyes blazed with fury as he lunged forward, desperate to grab the elder.

However, the crowd seemed to have anticipated this; almost as Akua grabbed the elder's arm, a sharp longsword instantly severed the elder's hand.

In an anguished cry, Akua could only look on in despair at the severed hand in his own grasp, while the falling elder, at the moment of his drop, shouted desperately at him:

"Don't jump down! Akua!!"

The clan leader's final voice seemed blown away by the wind; the next second, his frail, withered body fell like a rotten log to the ground.

One, two, three...

Akua knelt on the ground, sobbing, clutching his head tightly like an ostrich refusing to look at anyone.

He couldn't face those desperate, tormented gazes, nor could he bear any word spoken by his clanspeople. He felt anger, but his fury was crushed by fear, leaving him able only to burst into tears, incapable of anything else.

"What are you.. afraid of..?"

A voice, as if from another world, echoed in his mind.

Before Akua's heart could even jolt, before he could panic and search for the source, the next second that voice, as if seeing through his soul, rang out again:

"You actually know whether your abilities are correct, don't you?"

"You also know how to become stronger, and you understand even better what those things in the system really are."

"You've guessed it, you've thought it through, but you dare not keep looking, dare not keep thinking. You're afraid, you keep thinking that maybe if you just pretend not to know any of this, the Apocalypse will suddenly vanish one day and everything will return to normal..."

"You let them push you around like a step-by-step machine, always telling yourself this is just a dream..."

"You're afraid of zombies, afraid of pain, afraid of suffering, afraid of everything! You're afraid that if you believe all this, this dream will never wake up again!"

The voice was soft, yet in Akua's ears it roared like a deafening thunderclap, as if the whole world had dwindled to just him and this voice.

"Who are you!? No..! I don't have!"

Panicked denial, Akua fearfully lifted his head to look at the misty space, at the unknown entity that had dragged him here!

Where is this? In his thoughts? In his brain!?

As if his innermost secret had been laid bare, for the first time Akua felt a fear greater than death itself!

Yes, his cowardice, his compromise, his unwillingness to resist—all stem from a single fantasy in his heart! It's all fake! Even seeing his clanspeople die, maybe one day it will suddenly end, and the dream will wake.

A light laugh.

Before Akuya could even shout desperately, that pity-filled voice rang out, booming like thunder!

"Open your eyes! Akuya! See clearly everything you are seeing!"

"Look at your tribespeople's eyes, look at your own heart! All of this is real, this is not a dream!"

"Look at that heart of yours, long filled with anger and resentment; it hates you for being so cowardly, so self‑deceiving!"

"Knowing the truth might make you fearful. It might leave you at a loss!"

"But the unknown is what's truly terrifying!"

"Tell me, do you really think that after being shot to death, your dream could wake up?"

"You truly don't hate, don't hate this bunch of trash for killing your tribespeople and trampling everything you have?!"

"Or perhaps..."

"You don't dare?"

The voice disappeared.

When Akuya opened his eyes again, before him was a head held in hand, bloody and dripping.

That was his last tribesperson.
