Chapter 1967: Ghost Skull Mystery 28

~7 min read 1,210 words

^"Is this a mental hospital?"

"To be honest, I've never been to a place like this before..."

He turned and jumped over the sliding automatic door; Jiang Haochen curiously gazed at the pitch-black reception hall not far away.

The hospital grounds were vast; just the buildings he could see numbered four or five, with a contiguous ward area behind. The whole courtyard was filled with dead trees, and the fallen leaves seemed about to flood the place.

Although it looked rather like a horror movie, it was still not quite what he had imagined.

"It's quite modern... I thought it would be that kind of medieval building, with a sealed big iron gate at the entrance, then all windows barred, and a patient gown hung on a tree..."

"As soon as we came in, a ghostly shadow flashed past the window..."

Walking and looking around, not knowing if it was just because the surroundings were too quiet, Jiang Haochen couldn't help muttering to himself, not caring whether Andre was listening.

However, as soon as he finished speaking, he heard Andre let out a light laugh:

"Modern mental hospitals aren't much different from regular hospitals. What you're describing probably happened in the 1950s-60s."

"Back then, people usually treated mental patients as lunatics; rather than therapy, it was more like confinement."

Walking ahead of Jiang Haochen, Andre casually observed the surroundings.

In North America, the places with the most patients are only two: one is a mental hospital, the other is a **facility.

"This place is huge; trying to search it all ourselves is probably unrealistic."

Without waiting for Jiang Haochen to react, after looking around, Andre pointed to the Rear ward.

Indeed, it's huge; at a glance, the whole hospital could hold tens of thousands. Trying to find a clue here is undoubtedly harder than climbing to heaven.

"It's quite troublesome..."

"If there were electricity, that would be nice; with electricity we could still check this place's computer system."

"The name on that piece of information is Sen Tian Zhen Yi, right? If we look up his medical records, we should be able to find a clue."

Recalling the half-page paper he and Andre had found, Jiang Haochen furrowed his brow, planning to see if he could find something like a diesel generator.

Seeming to see what he was thinking, Andre shook his head and spoke softly:

"It's not very meaningful; we don't have the login password. Moreover, restoring the power system here would take a long time."

"Barring any surprises, each ward's nurse station should have handwritten records, with some files archived inside."

He pointed to the Rear inpatient department.

"What do you think... what problems would a patient who got in a car accident exhibit?"

As Andre spoke, his gaze swept over each building, thinking about which building Sen Tian Zhen Yi, who left the information, might be receiving treatment in.

"What problems might arise?"

"I think... he might have been frightened? Like PTSD or something? Or delusional disorder, thinking he'd get hit if he went onto the road?"

"Anyway, he definitely isn't a lunatic; lunatics wouldn't live alone."

Jiang Haochen thought for a moment and voiced his guess.

After entering the mission, they appeared in a standalone villa, and the information was also found in the bedroom. It's obvious that Sen Tian Zhen Yi still had self-care ability.

"I don't think so."

Unlike Jiang Haochen's guess, after Andre finished speaking, he glanced at a signpost and strode toward the building marked for psychosomatic illness.

"If Sen Tian Zhen Yi had psychological issues similar to post-traumatic sequelae, why would there be a car outside his house? Do you remember the supermarket receipt in the trash can? He bought a lot of instant food."

"The dust on that car is less than in the kitchen, so that guy is unlikely to be afraid to go out as you said."

"Moreover... maybe there is a physical deficiency."

"It's very likely the hand, or..."

"It's probably not a part that would affect driving."

After his words fell, Andre didn't say anything more; he already had a rough idea in mind.

Seeing that Andre had already confirmed the target, Jiang Haochen hurried to catch up.

He understood Andre's meaning.

If Sen Tian Zhen Yi really developed a disability after the car accident, that would indeed explain the car and kitchen issues.

"However..."

"What disability still allows driving? Missing a hand? Or missing fingers?"

With a strange expression, Jiang Haochen subconsciously glanced at his own crotch.

"Damn, if that's really the case, then his psychology would certainly have problems."

Soon, after passing through two inpatient buildings in a row, the two finally stopped in front of a seven-story building.

Unlike other inpatient buildings that are over ten stories high, this building marked for psychosomatic inpatient care actually has only seven floors. Upon Jiang Haochen's careful observation, he noticed that the right side of the top floor still bore a sign for a certain university's research group.

Without waiting for Jiang Haochen to look further, all that was heard was a creak, and Andre had already pushed open the dark blue glass door.

"Let's go, let's go up and take a look."

"Although the hospital system isn't quite the same, according to my experience, nurse stations are generally on the middle floors, around the fourth floor."

"The first floor is the lobby, receiving families and consultation rooms. Floors two to six are the inpatient area, and the top floor is generally the treatment area and offices."

"If there isn't one on the fourth floor, then it would only be on the top floor."

Listening to Andre's analysis, Jiang Haochen nodded, not saying much more. But for some reason, he felt something odd inside.

He didn't think Andre had said anything wrong; rather, it was that sentence Andre said.

Based on my experience, did this guy also have a brain problem before the apocalypse?

He didn't know Andre well, only knowing that the other was once a leader of the North American war zone. His background is mysterious, with rumors linking him to the military.

To be honest, he still doesn't know why Lin An summoned this guy into the instance.

Not having time to think further, Jiang Haochen suppressed his inner unease and followed behind Andre, merely assuming Lin An had taken Andre on as a lackey.

"Thud thud"

Footsteps echoed.

As soon as he entered, Jiang Haochen felt a chill of yin cold.

In a pitch-black hall, medicine windows lined both sides. Whether it was psychological or not, Jiang Haochen constantly felt as if pairs of eyes were watching him from behind the windows.

"This place, the yin energy is heavy..."

Unable to help it, he shrank his neck; after sighing, Jiang Haochen planned to follow Andre straight up to the fourth floor.

Just as his gaze swept past the restroom beside the stairs, he suddenly froze.

Only the washstand was empty; although it looked normal, his subconscious told him something felt off.

"Any problem?"

Andre asked sideways, his voice low.

"No... just a feeling..."

"Do you feel like something's missing?"

Andre turned his head and continued upstairs.

"Do you feel the washstand is empty? It's simple—there's no mirror there. Naturally it looks strange."
