Chapter 1990: The Mystery of the Ghost Skull 51

~7 min read 1,247 words

He ran wildly all the way.

He didn't even have time to wait for his main body; Lin An dashed straight toward Jiang Haochen's entry point, running at full speed!

No wonder he was so nervous.

Although in theory, a camera ghost cannot see people without its camera.

Lin An clearly remembered that Jiang Haochen was somewhat special—that guy could see ghosts even without a camera! This meant Jiang Haochen was likely to die just like the Divine Archer.

"That guy's ability to see ghosts is both a way to live and a way to die!"

"After losing its camera, the camera ghost will surely wander around. If Jiang Haochen accidentally sees it, he won't even know how he died!"

A ghost that had lost its eyes suddenly saw a person, just like spotting a firefly in the dark; Lin An could easily imagine the camera ghost bursting out of the hospital instantly and chasing down Jiang Haochen!

Jiang Haochen is very important!

If my current state can't be seen and I can't transmit any information, then the only one who could possibly help me transmit information is Jiang Haochen!

He needs to rescue Jiang Haochen, then bring Jiang Haochen to find the main body and complete his cognition!

As for how to actually find the ghost skull and how to eliminate the ghost skull on his body, that's a matter for later!

Outside the ghost skull mission.

Unlike Lin An and the others who entered the mission via teleportation,

Like a dark ruin floating in deep space, amidst the starry sky, a massive Overseer silently gazed at the darkness beneath its feet.

It was a twisted expanse, as if countless shattered spaces had been pieced together into a city cluster—like fragments of a world cut out, with the surroundings seemingly cleared into a vacuum.

No. 77 slowly waved the tendrils behind it, as if waiting, waiting for a beam of light in the darkness.

"Overseer No. 77, the Committee now demands you give a reason for attacking other Overseers—your actions have seriously violated the Overseers' code!"

"The Star Battlefield, the Star Domain Civilization, and other Overseers have already submitted an application to the Committee!"

It slowly turned its head, like a planet rotating.

No. 77 expressionlessly watched the huge phantom looming behind it—that was another Overseer.

"Reason?"

"No reason—I just don't like them. If they dare attack me, let them go die."

While speaking, No. 77's indifferent attitude made it clear it didn't take the Great Bear Star Domain's accusations seriously at all.

It was as if a bunch of ants jumped up to question why he should be stepped on, while No. 77's explanation was just to piss on them.

"You!?"

"This is your reason!?"

As expected, faced with No. 77's arrogantly insolent answer, the b1199 inspector tasked with verification seemed equally surprised—seeing her eyes widen, she couldn't help but be angered by No. 77's attitude:

"No. 77! Don't think that being a Committee member lets you ignore the rules!"

"I tell you! The Great Bear Star Domain has already contacted another Committee member! If Overseers all act like you, disregarding the rules, then...!?"

"What then?"

"Kill me?"

"Besides the System, the Committee has no authority to deal with me. So what—did those losers pick No. 99 or No. 80?"

With a light chuckle, No. 77 mockingly gazed at the b1199, supreme in the eyes of countless high-level civilizations—in an instant, its tendril shot out like a long sword, aiming straight at her pupil.

"Little one, it seems you have no idea who I am."

"Want to move me? Unless ten higher-ranking Committee members accuse me at once, or those two old-timers personally step in—do you believe I'd dare kill even a Committee member?"

"His voice rang like the rules themselves, shaking the starry sky!"

"Although they were tens of light-years apart, it was merely a phantom facing off."

"The instant No. 77's words ended, the pupil of the projected No. 1199 suddenly contracted—as if sensing a vast killing intent spanning space—it locked onto her in an instant!"

"Her whole body trembled!"

"Damn it! Since becoming an Overseer, she had never felt anything like this!"

"She truly didn't know who No. 77 was, only aware that it was some oddball who had run alone to the edge of a low-level star cluster, a Committee member."

"Her reaction was swift—she suppressed her shock, instantly realizing that the No. 77 before her was far more terrifying than she had imagined!"

"But why!? No. 77's number isn't even high among the Committee!"

"Seeing the fear and disbelief in No. 1199's heart, No. 77's vicious expression instantly faded, as if nothing had happened, and it retracted its tendrils:"

"Little one, it seems you're just being used as a gun."

"For such a trivial matter to come find me, it's likely those losers want to test me using you."

With a sneer, No. 77 turned its head away, its gaze returning to the ghost skull scene below.

"In his view, someone inside was more important than the so-called Committee, more important than hundreds of star domains."

"Go tell the Committee that those worms found—tell them, if they have the guts, come find me in person! Tell them, not wiping out that place already counts as me being lenient! They know full well what they've done."

"Just who exactly is violating the System's rules and interfering with the mission? Don't they know? They dare to swallow a Fourth Stage reward—it's utterly laughable!"

"When I act, I'm merely helping the System clean up trash—while also annoying them a bit."

As the words fell, No. 1199's heart jolted—she also realized some things were no longer for her to participate in.

She had a mission on her shoulders; though frightened by No. 77, she couldn't afford to offend the Committee member assigned to interrogate her.

"So... you're admitting you know what happened in the Star Battlefield, and therefore you're speaking up for that player?"

"Whether it is or not, what does it matter?"

"Fine, even if you had a reason to act, what about here?"

"This mission scene has level restrictions, right? You not only broke the rules by letting a Fourth Stage enter, but also let one of them carry..."

Mid-sentence, No. 1199 seemed unable to even speak of the Eye of Creation's information—seeing her suppress her fear, she still intended to finish the questioning.

"By doing this, you've already violated the System's rules! This amounts to cheating with authority, interfering in the catastrophe process!"

If speaking of the Stellar Battlefield matter, No. 77 still has reason to act; then in this kind of mission, giving out Props that even she finds shocking...

It's no exaggeration to say, what's the difference between this and directly giving a full Star Destroyer Set to a Third Rank entering the mission?

Isn't this blatant favoritism?

However, beyond No. 1199's expectations, No. 77 had nothing to rebut:

The mission has undergone an aberration; don't say I merely gave him that thing. Even letting a Death Star Level enter, it's still hard to handle.

You haven't noticed that the system has already started clearing the surroundings? Mission? This is no longer a mission... but a loophole that even the system wants to strangle.

No. 1199 suddenly staggered, only then shockily discovering that the starry sky around the Ghost Skull Scene had long since vanished.

Kid.. I believe you!

You must have figured out what the mission is about!
