Chapter 814: Truth 2
Pfft!
The sound of flesh being pierced rang out again.
Time began to flow, as if a frozen scroll suddenly fast-forwarded and jumped.
In the deadlocked standoff, a sharp bone spur like a lance drilled out from Lin An's wrist and instantly pierced the aberrant mutant's giant fist.
As if the monster also had emotions.
Those lantern-like scarlet giant eyes suddenly widened.
Until 0.5 seconds later.
A chilling force followed the wound, piercing its fist and aching into the bone marrow.
Like decomposing, the foul-smelling pus at the wound dripped onto the ground.
Its limited intelligence could not comprehend how the tiny worm from just moments ago could have become as huge as itself.
Those "slender" yet ferocious like a dagger white bones formed a body like a killing machine.
He came to his senses.
"Roar!!!"
In pain, he roared.
After the aberration, Lin An emanated an evil, violent aura.
More like a monster than the monster.
The roar was futile.
The next second, a huge force came from its chest.
"Boom!!"
The tremendous sound of flesh colliding turned into an invisible shockwave.
The spreading airflow struck nearby buildings, shattering the last of the glass.
Amid the flying debris, a white "bowstring" was reflected.
That was a drawn bow, the white Lin An about to move again.
Lin An, covered in bone-spur armor, instantly drew his bone spear and then kicked toward its chest.
His sharp toe, like a razor, gouged into the rotten flesh.
At extreme speed, one strike pierced the chest!
A sonic boom sounded.
He was about to throw a punch.
The aberrant mutant didn't even have time to gather power before feeling another wave of pain from behind.
That white monster actually appeared behind it as if by teleportation.
"Pfft-"
"Pfft-"
Both hands turned into blurs, easily scraping off large chunks of muscle tissue.
If it could wail, the aberrant mutant at this moment would surely emit a miserable cry of pain.
Unfortunately, it couldn't even turn around.
Its back was hollowed out.
Embodied as a white shadow, Lin An performed a living dissection on it, slicing it alive.
Removing bones, stripping skin.
In those violent eyes, not a trace of emotion could be seen.
Not killing for battle, but as if enjoying it.
Straining to turn, the aberrant mutant, having lost over half its body, roared while trying to topple and crush Lin An.
But it was like being toyed with.
"Ho..."
A cruel, teasing sound devoid of meaning rang out.
Double spikes slashed, carving a cruel cross.
"Bang!"
The earth trembled!
Lowering his stance, the aberrant mutant suddenly discovered its right leg severed at the root.
Its massive body uncontrollably collapsed to the ground.
Thousands of tons of weight instantly crushed the ruined residential buildings into rubble.
The massacre began.
Fallen, straining to lift its head, the aberrant mutant's scarlet eyes reflected a blinding white.
Though it should have felt no emotion, it sensed fear from a superior being.
That was a demon.
"What... have you done..."
"How... did I become..."
The voice hoarse, indescribable.
In the lightless will-space, Lin An felt himself like a detached thought, no longer sensing his body.
At the other end of the space, the Second Will seemed also to have lost bodily control, calmly observing him.
Both "persons" had lost control of their bodies, leaving the aberrant mutant's demonic form to slaughter at will.
At this very moment, the two of them were actually standing apart from the battle.
("As you see...")
"As I... see..?"
Lin An endured the discomfort that felt like nothingness, his brows furrowed tightly, and he recalled what the Second Will had just said.
("Using mutants to fight mutants is the only way?")
Strangeness reveals itself everywhere.
He subconsciously posed a counter-question to the past:
"The fragments will cause mutant effects—how did you discover that?"
"Aren't you afraid... the main body will be contaminated, mutated into a monster..."
Courting death.
His eyes stared fixedly at the Second Will.
The main body possesses an anti-toxin property, allowing it to ignore part of the zombie virus in regular combat.
But that doesn't mean one can insert a fragment capable of causing a third-rank mutation into the brain.
What's the difference between this and suicide?
Even more terrifying than death..
Thinking hard, Lin An tried to guess the Second Will's intention.
Is it hiding information?
The sudden drastic change made it hard for him to comprehend.
Especially the pity revealed in the Second Will's eyes at the last moment made him feel even more uneasy.
Flesh and blood flew everywhere.
Outside of thought, his self transformed into an Aberrant Mutant was brutally massacring the giant zombies.
It wanted to rip out the opponent's entrails.
In the brief silence.
The Second Will looked at Lin An, an inexplicable emotion showing in his eyes, and slowly spoke:
("Infection, mutation?")
("There's nothing to worry about..")
He answered off-topic.
He paused a moment, then spoke again to himself:
("Lin An, do you still remember when the Apocalypse first broke out, you tried to use your own blood to suppress the zombie virus on An Jing Tian's body?")
("Unfortunately it failed..")
Hmm!?
Astonishment.
"Answer my question."
Lin An blinked slightly, not knowing why the Second Will would bring up the past at this moment.
Memory fragments flashed before his eyes, vivid as ever.
He certainly remembered.
That was the third day of the Apocalypse outbreak, when he first went to find An Jing Tian and the two of them, he had done that foolish act (Chapter 7).
In his past life, rumors said the Awakened Ones' blood could slow the zombification process, but in reality, it was utterly useless.
When his fresh blood dripped onto An Jing Tian's body, it was like sulfuric acid.
A sigh.
The Second Will slowly shook his head, seeming somewhat hesitant about what he was about to say.
After a long while, just as Lin An could hardly hold back his questioning, he spoke:
("I have already answered you.")
His voice echoed in the will-space.
("Lin An... have you ever considered that the rumor you heard in your past life might actually be... true?")
("The blood of the Awakened Ones contains spiritual energy, and it can indeed temporarily suppress the zombification process...")
"What!?"
Lin An's whole body jolted, as if he finally realized what the Second Will was trying to say.
A strong, almost absurd sense of unease surged into his heart.
Without waiting for his reply, the Second Will suddenly looked at him with a hint of pity, unable to bear it.
("Lin An, in your suspicions of me, does part of it stem from..")
("Why, in your past life, did I never appear when you died?")
("Logically, I should have stepped in to save you, even if I had been sealed.")
("In matters of life and death, a seal is meaningless.")
("So you actually secretly guessed that I have never told you the truth.")
Word by word, as if approaching the truth.
His speech quickened, the Second Will withdrew that strange pity, and spoke sternly:
("In fact, I have appeared.")
("At the moment you lost consciousness, I broke through the seal, trying to save us.")
("But... it was too late..")
("You mutated into a mutant in an extremely short time; under the violent torrent of thought, I could only seal myself again...")
Like a bolt from the blue, Lin An stood frozen in place.
He understood, and he guessed what the Second Will wanted to tell him.
His consciousness was chaotic and absurd; a terrifying guess almost tore apart his sanity.
Before him, the Second Will's mouth opening and closing was like a silent film.
Perhaps the last trace of sympathy had already shown.
The Second Will coldly stared at him, utterly disregarding Lin An's crumbling mind, and spoke his final words as if stating a fact:
("Lin An, face reality.")
("You died in your past life but 'lived' for a long time; you became a monster and killed everything you saw.")
("In my last memory, you devoured the last Awakened One of the Huaxia war zone.")
A burst of mockery, a low laugh came from the Second Will's mouth; his shoulders shook, as if he'd thought of the funniest joke in the world.
("Lin An, do you think you were reborn as a human?")
("No...")
("You were reborn as a monster...")
The laughter ceased, and the Second Will gazed with interest at that frozen silhouette:
("Lin An, I've said this many times before.")
("You are actually...")
("A monster wearing human skin.")
("So, your blood is of no use...")
