Chapter 945: Cheng An

~4 min read 729 words

Cheng An.

Both his surname and given name sounded clean and crisp, yet they were attached to a man who looked fierce and menacing, creating a stark and intense contrast.

"Where are you from?" Shen Ci lifted her eyes to look at him and asked softly.

Cheng An answered truthfully: "Hubei. My family is all gone, and I never married, so I don't really want to go back."

As they spoke, the two of them had already reached the entrance of the villa. The imposing mansion before him made Cheng An feel increasingly constrained. He glanced around and said with a hesitant expression: "I'd better not go in; I don't want to scare your family."

He had an exceptionally clear awareness of his own appearance and did not want to cause Shen Ci any trouble at all.

"It seems you often scare people," Shen Ci chuckled. "Don't be nervous, there's no one home."

Cheng An pulled at the corners of his mouth in embarrassment. Only after hearing this did he feel slightly more at ease, and he followed Shen Ci through the door.

Shen Ci led him directly to the dining room, heated up the leftovers in the pot, served them on the table, and after sitting down, gestured: "Eat, don't be a stranger."

Cheng An looked at the food before him and subconsciously swallowed a mouthful of saliva.

Although it was all left over from last night, it was from Shen Ci's family gathering, ordered from Shuiyun Jian; it tasted even better after being reheated. Abalone, lobster, sea cucumber... everything was there.

Having spent several years in prison, there was nowhere inside to eat such things. Cheng An was truly famished, so he stopped being polite, picked up his bowl and chopsticks, and began to eat in large mouthfuls.

Shen Ci did not rush to speak, but silently kept adding food to his bowl.

"Thank you... thank you." Cheng An thanked her while eating. Shen Ci's gentle attitude gradually diluted the awkwardness and unease he felt.

After wolfing down his food to fill his stomach, he finally slowed down. Only then did Shen Ci speak at the right moment: "May I ask, back then you were..."

"Intentional injury." Cheng An answered crisply, then explained simply: "I used to be a boxing coach. My former boss kept withholding my wages, and later I just..."

He didn't say much about the details, but Shen Ci could already roughly guess—it was nothing more than failing to collect wages, losing his temper for a moment, and then, without controlling his strength, injuring someone severely.

"How long did you spend inside?"

"Three and a half years."

Shen Ci raised her eyebrows in understanding and asked again: "Then did my brother give any instructions on how I should arrange things for you?"

Cheng An paused in his action of picking up food, shook his head gently, and hurriedly added: "Any arrangement is fine. If it's really inconvenient, that's okay too. I'm a grown man with hands and feet; I won't starve to death."

Shen Ci looked at him and smiled. That was what he said, but she knew in her heart that if he hadn't been at the end of his rope, he wouldn't have come here.

"There's nothing inconvenient about it. Since you are my brother's friend, I will certainly help you." She paused. "You said just now that you used to be a boxing coach? Can you do anything else?"

She wanted to help him find a stable job based on his skills. Having been inside for three and a half years and just coming out, he needed to slowly adapt to the rhythm of the outside world within a familiar circle first.

"Taekwondo, judo, I know them all." Cheng An raised his finger to point at the firm muscles on his arm. "I have great strength; I can do any manual labor."

Shen Ci nodded: "Alright, then I'll arrange a place for you to stay first. Do you have an ID card?"

"I do." Cheng An hurriedly fished his ID card out of his pocket and handed it over.

Shen Ci took it and looked, unable to help but widen her eyes in surprise: "You were born in '90?"

Cheng An smiled and nodded: "Yes, I'm thirty-six this year."

"I really couldn't tell." Shen Ci sighed sincerely. ===== CHAPTER 946 =====
