Chapter 68

~6 min read 1,148 words

“Susanoo — Third Form!” Jiang Xia muttered, and the Susanoo’s skeletal frame was covered in muscle and skin, a Ten-Punch Sword coalescing in its grasp.

He controlled the Susanoo as it charged toward Lei Yuying, who tried to dodge but was ensnared by the Susanoo’s long blade.

Jiang Xia’s gaze hardened; the Ten-Punch Sword elongated and slashed violently toward Lei Yuying’s head.

“Splat!”

Lei Yuying’s head split in two, blood spraying out as its massive body crashed to the ground, twitching a few times before falling still.

After eliminating Lei Yuying, Jiang Xia immediately turned to support Wang Teng.

At that moment, Wang Teng was being suppressed by the Golden-Haired Lion; countless black chains had been shattered, and his arms were slashed, bleeding profusely.

“Amaterras!” Jiang Xia muttered, switching his left eye to the Amaterras Sharingan, which fired a jet of black flame that landed on the Golden-Haired Lion’s back.

The Golden-Haired Lion let out a shriek; its golden fur instantly ignited, the black flames spreading rapidly until they engulfed its entire body.

The Golden-Haired Lion thrashed wildly, trying to extinguish the flames, but to no avail.

Wang Teng seized the opportunity; the black sigils transformed into a massive scythe and slashed toward the Golden-Haired Lion’s neck.

“Splat!”

The Golden-Haired Lion’s head was severed, rolling to the ground as the black flames continued to burn its corpse.

Just as the two eliminated the two Wang-jie beasts, a tremendous tremor erupted from the center of the square.

From the dust emerged the Gigantognathus, its mouth gaping as it unleashed a colossal torrent of water toward the soldiers.

Many soldiers were struck; their earthen wall shields instantly melted, their bodies flung backward and crashing to the ground, spitting blood.

“I’ll handle this Gigantognathus!”

Jiang Xia shouted, leaping into the air as his right Rinnegan activated, purple pupils glowing with light.

“Shinra Tensei!”

He muttered, and the Gigantognathus’s body was instantly pulled by a powerful gravitational force toward Jiang Xia.

The Gigantognathus struggled to resist, but could not break free from Shinra Tensei’s pull.

Jiang Xia transformed into Susanoo again, Ningju a powerful spiritual energy blade and thrust it into the Gigantognathus’s body.

“Boom!”

The blade pierced the Gigantognathus’s body instantly; blue spiritual energy exploded, shattering its internal organs.

The Gigantognathus let out a piercing scream, its massive body crashing to the ground, utterly lifeless.

After eliminating the three Wang-jie beasts, Jiang Xia and Wang Teng finally exhaled in relief.

They turned toward the center of the square and saw a massive fissure opening on the ground, black mist continuously pouring out, within which countless beast shapes flickered faintly.

The ground around the fissure had been corroded by the black mist, turning pitch black.

“That’s the fissure!” came the Colonel’s voice as he led over a dozen psychics toward the fissure.

“Everyone, prepare! I’ll suppress the mist with my psychic ability — strike the fissure while it’s exposed!”

The Colonel finished speaking, spreading his hands as blue spiritual energy gathered in his palms, quickly forming a vast water curtain.

“Water Curtain Heaven Shield!” he muttered, and the massive water curtain descended over the fissure.

The black mist hissed upon contact with the water curtain, gradually dissipating.

The beasts within the fissure, stripped of their misty protection, were now exposed to view.

“Attack!” Jiang Xia shouted, charging forward first. He pulled out a stack of explosive tags, spiritual energy surging as he hurled them into the fissure.

“Boom! Boom! Boom!” A series of explosions erupted within the fissure; many beasts were blasted backward by the shockwaves, crashing to the ground, immobilized.

Wang Teng also charged forward; black sigils transformed into countless chains, wrapping around the beasts within the fissure.

The chains tightened, flinging the beasts violently to the ground — many shattered into pieces.

The soldiers seized the chance, firing continuously; beams from spirit-energy rifles and shells from heavy artillery rained into the fissure, rapidly reducing the number of beasts inside.

At that moment, an even greater tremor came from the fissure. A dark figure burst forth — it was the Demon King Yingzhao.

Yingzhao stood over twenty meters tall, with a horse’s body, a human face, tiger stripes and bird wings on its back, blood-red pupils, a gaping mouth revealing sharp fangs, radiating terrifying energy.

“Disaster-class beast!”

The Colonel’s face darkened; he gathered blue spiritual energy in his palms once more.

“Be careful — this Demon King is late-stage Disaster-class, extremely powerful!” he shouted, launching a massive water column toward Yingzhao.

The water column struck Yingzhao’s body, causing it to pause momentarily — but inflicted no damage.

Yingzhao roared, swiping its claw, sending a wave of black energy toward the Colonel.

The Colonel swiftly formed a water curtain to block the black energy wave.

“Boom!”

The water curtain shattered instantly; the Colonel was struck, staggering backward several meters before stopping, spitting blood.

“Colonel!”

Jiang Xia shouted, immediately turning to lend support.

The Colonel, shaken by the energy wave, had barely stabilized his stance when Yingzhao lunged forward as a dark shadow.

Its spined claws tore through the air with a sharp shriek, aimed straight for the Colonel’s throat.

At the last instant, a red light shield erupted before him — Jiang Xia, controlling Susanoo, arrived in time, slashing the Ten-Punch Sword toward Yingzhao’s flank.

“Clang!”

The Ten-Punch Sword struck Yingzhao’s scales — leaving only a faint white scratch.

Yingzhao roared in pain, flapping its bird wings violently; countless black feathers shot forth like arrows toward Jiang Xia.

Seeing this, Wang Teng instantly spread black sigils across the ground, forming dozens of thick chains that encircled Jiang Xia in impenetrable defense.

The feathers struck the chains with a rapid “ding-ding-ding,” yet could not pierce through.

“Amaterras!” Jiang Xia’s left eye flared with Amaterras flame; black tongues of fire spread along the Ten-Punch Sword as he thrust it again into Yingzhao’s wound.

This time, the flames clung to the scale seams and burned fiercely; Yingzhao howled in agony, releasing a burst of black energy that blasted Jiang Xia and Wang Teng away.

Both crashed to the ground, blood trickling from their mouths.

“We can’t fight head-on!”

“Fengdu Secret Seal — Soul Reaper’s Scythe!”

Wang Teng wiped away blood, black sigils coalescing in his palm into a scythe.

“Its scales are too strong — we need to find its weakness!”

No sooner had he spoken than he leapt upward, the scythe slicing through the air toward Yingzhao’s outstretched wings.

Though the feathers there were sharp, they were far less resilient than the scales — deep, bone-exposing wounds appeared instantly, black blood gushing forth.

Yingzhao erupted in fury, rearing its horse body upright, its front hooves stomping down toward Wang Teng.

Jiang Xia’s pupils contracted; his right Rinnegan blazed with light: “Shinra Tensei!”

A powerful gravitational force pulled Wang Teng to his side, while Susanoo’s arm coalesced spiritual energy and smashed down onto Yingzhao’s hoof.
