Chapter 155: Ranking Boost

Zhao Chi was startled.

He saw Tang Ruan wearing white cloth shirt and trousers, with silk stockings on her feet.

She clung to him tightly and softly.

Zhao Chi felt only softness and warmth all over his body.

He asked in surprise, "What's wrong with you? Why are you hugging me? Did you equip the cloth shirt and trousers to the fashion slot? Switch to combat mode quickly, this isn't safe."

Saying so, he hurriedly looked around.

Fortunately, no wraiths were approaching.

Tang Ruan pressed close to his chest, and now raised her shy face to look at him.

"It was Sister Gu who told me to do this. She said if I did this, I could draw your attention away, and you might not be so scared. Sister Gu said that if there weren't outsiders who could see, she'd have me strip naked before hugging you."

How does Gu Qing come up with so many rotten ideas?

However…

"…It does seem, indeed, a little better."

"Hehe, that's good then."

Tang Ruan hugged him even tighter, her two trembling mounds of pride squished out of shape.

Zhao Chi did not refuse her kindness, letting her hold him as she pleased.

Tang Ruan pressed against his chest, listening to his violently beating heart.

The screams quickly grew sparse.

All the wraiths had been dispersed.

A notification came from the system.

【Fifth Trial Passed】

【Defeated】 50 Wraiths

【Time Used】 4 min 42 sec

【Score】 75 points

【Total Score】 298 points

【Ranking】 31st

Zhao Chi's ranking did not display immediately.

Instead, it only showed up after another few minutes.

This could also prove from another angle that his clearing time was much shorter than most trainees'.

He hadn't expected that after this trial, Zhao Chi's ranking had shot up 17 places directly.

It seemed the wraiths' screams had indeed caused considerable obstacles for the other trainees.

The wraiths' combat power was average.

But half the time their bodies were in a transparent state, impossible to hit.

Combined with the fear-inducing screams, it could make the players' soldiers timid and afraid to attack.

Even when they attacked, they did so in a panic, easily missing or lacking power.

Although everyone knew inwardly that this was a skill effect.

But it was just like drinking.

Those who have never been drunk cannot imagine drunkenness.

They think they can stay sober by focusing their mind.

That they can never get drunk.

But the truth is everyone overthought it — humans cannot struggle against objective laws.

Eating salt will taste salty.

Getting cut will hurt.

Reasoning with yourself cannot fight against it.

Moreover, although the wraiths' attacks weren't very strong, they couldn't be underestimated.

A solid hit from them would still cause injury, even fatal.

Gu Qing and the others all gathered around.

It could be seen that they all looked relaxed.

Gu Qing grinned and sidled up to Zhao Chi: "Tang Ruan, the battle is already over, why aren't you letting go of my lord yet? How long do you want to hug him?"

"Eh! It's over?" Tang Ruan said blankly, only then releasing Zhao Chi.

Gu Qing covered her mouth and laughed: "How come once you hugged him you became so reluctant to part? Next time there's an opportunity like this, I'll still let you do it."

Tang Ruan pressed her lips together and said nothing.

But she thought for a moment, then shook her head: "No, I promised my lord that I would be his strongest shield, and I specialized in defense. Sister Gu, you specialized in spiritual power, so let me take the lead in the future. I don't have much experience, but I can work hard."

Gu Qing laughed: "Alright, there'll be a time for you to shine soon. Don't worry, with me here, I'll heal you in time."

Tang Ruan nodded heavily.

Zhao Chi asked, "How are you all? Anyone hurt?"

Gu Qing nodded, pointing at the female soldiers beside her: "Everyone took a few hits, but the leather armor blocked them, and on top of that we all specialized in defense, so not much life was lost. Only 9 female craftsmen used up 9 pills."

Zhao Chi said: "That's good then. Seems this round went pretty well. We smoothly passed the fifth trial in less than 5 minutes. Everyone rest quickly — this time we have over 20 minutes of rest."
