Chapter 24

~4 min read 642 words

The surroundings were extremely quiet.

A strange, indescribable feeling arose in his mind.

Like the drowsy sensation of about to fall into a dream.

The next moment, the scene before his eyes spun rapidly.

Before he could react, he had already arrived in a stretch of woods.

He couldn't help glancing around.

Trees stood all around, not far apart from each other.

The sky was very blue.

Sunlight filtered through the leaves, a little dazzling.

It was the height of summer.

The foliage was thick and dense.

Some birds hopped among the branches, chirping softly.

Beneath the trees the ground was covered in green grass, nearly reaching the knees, and the chirring of insects rose from within.

The soil beneath the grass was slightly damp, with some moss growing on it.

Stepping on it felt a little sticky and slick.

Several rabbits suddenly darted out of the grass.

At the sight of Zhao Chi they immediately fled.

Dense trees, flat grassland, flocks of birds and wild rabbits.

These were all things he had configured when he first established his territory.

Later, as time went on, animals would migrate in from outside the territory.

Or seeds would drift in, sprouting into more and richer wild vegetables, wild fruits, and the like.

Zhao Chi hadn't yet spotted the small river he'd set up — perhaps it was hidden by the trees, but it shouldn't be far from here.

Behind him stood a small wooden cabin.

That had to be the Lord's Lodge.

Around the Lord's Lodge was a patch of open ground, all bare earth, roughly thirty meters across.

Buildings could be constructed here.

Zhao Chi walked toward the Lord's Lodge and pushed the door open.

The Lord's Lodge wasn't very large, with a total area of about fifty square meters.

The cabin was made of wood.

It was divided into a bedroom, kitchen, toilet, and bathroom.

The bedroom was the largest, about twenty square meters.

Inside were some simple pieces of furniture.

Windows were set into three of the walls.

A layout with windows facing both south and north — well-ventilated from both sides.

He never thought that a house he couldn't afford back in his old world, he could easily obtain here — one whole building.

The kitchen was a bit smaller, ten square meters.

Inside was a two-burner stove, with an area beside it for storing firewood and coal.

Next to the stove stood a large wooden barrel for storing water.

The toilet was also ten square meters.

Inside was also a water-storage wooden barrel, and a wooden toilet.

Beside it was some plant ash, used to cover up the feces.

The bathroom was likewise ten square meters.

Inside was a large wooden barrel, and a separate stove.

That large wooden barrel was for bathing, and the stove was for heating water.

The kitchen, toilet, and bathroom all had drainage sinks.

They could drain directly outside.

And all three rooms had windows on at least two walls.

Ventilation was no problem at all.

Although this small wooden cabin was very simple, Zhao Chi already was very satisfied.

At least it was better than his little house in the Great World.

He was still looking around.

Suddenly he heard a noisy commotion outside the door.

Zhao Chi froze for a moment and hurried to the doorway.

He cautiously poked his head out.

He saw more than a dozen ghastly pale hands suddenly thrust up from the bare earth outside the cabin.

Scratching and clawing outward ceaselessly.

"Not good!"

Zhao Chi's heart jolted.

He frantically grabbed a chair and held it in front of him.

The next moment, more than a dozen arms thrust up from beneath the ground.

Right after that, came heads, one after another.

Those heads squeezed out of the ground with force, struggling and swaying, then suddenly burrowed out.
