Chapter 209: Is the Weather Warming Up?
Tower: "Oh right, change the emblem as well. Make it a High Tower with a vertical eye staring straight ahead on its body."
However, since her title was the Tower Witch, Lan Qingyou made sure to include a High Tower in the design.
As for her desire to build a magical unit, that stemmed from experiencing the benefits of elemental counters when dealing with the dryads earlier.
There were so many magical elements in this world that she could not possibly cover every base on her own.
Therefore, having a dedicated magic unit could produce miraculous results at critical moments.
Chariot: "The eye represents the Magic Eye, right?"
Tower: "Yes."
Chariot: "What about the proportions between the eye and the High Tower?"
Tower: "The eye should take up two-thirds of the High Tower's body, or even cover it completely. Just use your own discretion."
With that said, Chariot handed over the blueprints for the purple knights and pink infantry, along with some spray paint for the emblems, to Lan Qingyou. He then excitedly hurried off to design the armor and weapons for the magic and aerial units.
The reason Chariot was so thrilled was entirely because he felt Lan Qingyou had finally embraced his aesthetic tastes.
After all, whenever Lan Qingyou commissioned him for custom items in the past, she always made sure to add, "No wasteland style."
To be honest, it had been quite a blow to his ego.
But now, she had actually approved of his armor and weapon designs!
She had even requested designs for two completely new troop types. How could he not be ecstatic?
Was there anything more satisfying than slowly and subtly changing the mind of someone who previously despised your aesthetics until they completely accepted them?
No! Absolutely not!
Thus, on the very next day.
Sporting heavy, dark circles under his eyes, Chariot packed up his completed blueprints and emblem designs, sending them straight to Lan Qingyou.
The Black Magician, as the name implied, wore pitch-black armor.
The style of the armor was not vastly different from that of the knights and infantry, though it was slightly more slender and compact.
Two long, slender spikes protruded from the back, designed to secure a flowing cape.
The weapon wielded by the Black Magician was a long gun that closely resembled a bolt-action rifle.
Compared to the purple knight's lance, this long gun lacked any flashy or overly complex features.
Aside from a few Runes meant for activation and conversion, it merely had a massive Energy Crystal embedded in the stock.
Procuring these was hardly a challenge for Priestess, who could manufacture Energy Crystals herself.
However, the moment she saw a rifle designated as a weapon, Lan Qingyou knew Chariot's old habits had flared up again.
Yet, she had to admit that a magic rifle was actually a brilliant idea.
'Perhaps I should get one for myself?' she pondered.
'A Witch armed with a gun... That actually sounds pretty good.'
While the contraption heavily clashed with the traditional image of a Witch, that very contradiction made it perfect.
Whipping out a massive firearm at a critical moment would guarantee a completely unblockable surprise attack.
Lan Qingyou reviewed the designs and felt extremely satisfied. She did not drag things out like one of those overbearing clients who let a tiny bit of power go to their heads, constantly demanding people to "make another revision" or "change it again."
She simply left a final message: "I will make a prototype first. If the actual effects are lacking, I will come back to consult you."
However, after eagerly crafting a set of Black Magician armor and taking it for a test run, Lan Qingyou found that its power was quite substantial.
As for how these golems actually cast magic, that delved into the complex theories behind magic arrays.
While constructing the Five Dragons Reincarnation Magic Array, Lan Qingyou discovered that the mana conversion properties within the array could transform ambient mana into various magical elements.
This discovery provided her with an excellent spark of inspiration.
That was precisely why she wanted to establish a unit of magicians in the first place.
Because the surface area on a golem's body was quite limited, Lan Qingyou was forced to carve the conversion arrays, activation arrays, and command Runes directly onto the interior of the armor.
In other words, the magical attacks executed by the Black Magician unit were actually being performed by the armor itself, while the internal power supply was provided by the golem.
After all, these Humanoid Magic Puppets were all powered by the Soul Crystals of Dark Demons.
Naturally, Lan Qingyou was not solely focused on constructing Humanoid Magic Puppets.
The earlier Copper Hammer Beasts and Rolling Blade Beasts had already been phased out of her lineup.
Replacing them were the insectoid magic puppets that Chariot had suggested earlier.
These things were incredibly practical.
After conducting some thorough research, Lan Qingyou chose to build spider models.
The primary reason she chose spiders was because their six legs provided exceptional stability when traversing rough terrain.
Furthermore, the large abdomen of a spider was exceptionally versatile, whether modified into a combat compartment to store weapons or hollowed out into a cockpit.
However, even with the shift toward insectoid constructs, Lan Qingyou did not slack off on the production of Beast-Shaped Magic Puppets.
It was just that the role of the Beast-Shaped Magic Puppets had shifted from primary attackers to a more mount-oriented and support-based capacity.
They would still be equipped with various elemental Funnels for Lan Qingyou to deploy in battle.
Lan Qingyou spent the next few days entirely immersed in the creation of her magic puppets.
She had no other choice; the demand for these machines was simply astronomical.
Not only did her magic array require additional manpower, but once the residents of the villa heard that Lan Qingyou was building Humanoid Magic Puppets, they all scrambled to place orders.
Some of those orders started at a minimum of ten units, with absolutely no upper limit.
It goes without saying exactly who that bottomless order belonged to.
Of course, she would occasionally take breaks to distribute some Witch's Potions. She maintained her pace of handing out five vials at a time, mostly just for fun.
Empress: "Do any of you feel like the temperature has been warming up lately?"
A few days later, just as the fifth wave of Mana Turbulence was about to arrive, Empress sent this message to the group chat.
Given her expertise in agriculture, she was naturally far more sensitive to temperature fluctuations than anyone else.
Priestess: "I haven't felt a thing."
Star: "Get out of here. You have temperature-regulating clothing; of course you wouldn't feel it."
Priestess: "Haha, now that you mention it, that's entirely true."
Justice: "There are definitely signs of a thaw. The water level in the Stream next to my orchard has risen quite a bit."
Judgment: "I've received reports on my end as well. The temperature is indeed rising, but thankfully it's not a sudden spike, so we don't need to worry about the water levels surging uncontrollably."
Magician: "Regarding that, Judgment, I think your assessment might be wrong."
Judgment: "?"
Magician: "It has been snowing for three straight months. Even if it doesn't look like there's a massive accumulation on the ground right now, if all this snow melts at once, the sheer volume of water will be catastrophic."
A thaw?
Seeing this, Lan Qingyou realized that, much like Priestess, she was also wearing temperature-regulating clothing. She genuinely hadn't given the shifting weather a single thought.
However...
Tower: "Over a month ago, when I was searching for that cave, I was teleported to the Abandoned Mountains at an altitude of several thousand meters. The snowpack up there was incredibly thick."
Death: "I can vouch for that. The snow is so deep that I haven't even bothered going up the mountain to hunt lately."
Moon: "Really? If that's the case, then the melting snow from the mountains is going to seriously impact everything downstream."
