Chapter 247: Announcement from the Supreme Council
Other than a few ores, materials, and herbs, there were only cooking ingredients and the like.
Even though, thanks to Lan Qingyou and Little Spoon, they could essentially clear out all the magical items and similar loot from every dungeon they entered.
However, compared to the Undead Bay, the haul was still worlds apart.
Judgement: "Everyone, I have a matter here that requires a little help from all of you."
Just as the sixth Mana Turbulence was approaching, Chu Yuan sent a message that left everyone stunned.
The High Priestess: "Help? Us?"
Judgement: "Yes."
The Empress: "All of us?"
Judgement: "Yes."
Judgement: "Everything is pretty much ready now, so I was hoping you could all help spread the word."
Wheel of Fortune: "Are you saying the Teleportation Arrays and the currency are ready?"
Judgement: "Exactly. Not only that, but several of The Magician's Adventurer's Guilds have also been established. Plus, quite a few witches have mastered The Tower's Five Dragons Reincarnation Magic Array."
The Tower: "That fast?"
Reading the chat up to this point, Lan Qingyou felt genuinely surprised.
It had only been about two months. While that wasn't exactly a short amount of time, it wasn't very long either. She just hoped they hadn't cut any corners.
Judgement: "It wasn't actually that fast. It's mainly because we prioritized evolving the top students from our Blue Star days, which made the learning process a lot easier."
Back when Chu Yuan first realized the immense complexity of the knowledge the Witches needed to study, he had specifically recruited numerous academic prodigies and straight-A students.
Because of this, they would never lose to anyone when it came to studying.
The only reason they seemed a bit behind was simply because they were dealing with entirely new, magical concepts.
The Tower: "If that's the case, then that's pretty good. But I have to say, the main structure should ideally be connected to a real Shelter."
Judgement: "Of course."
Justice: "Helping with the promotion is definitely not a problem, but what's in it for us? [Smile]"
Judgement: "There are definitely benefits. For instance, vending rights at the Adventurer's Guild. After all, we aren't the type to expect a horse to run without feeding it."
Justice: "Haha! That's great, simply great."
Seeing that there was profit to be made, not only Justice but the other members of the Villa also broke into happy smiles.
In places with high foot traffic, you could make money selling just about anything.
Setting aside Justice's juices and liquors, there were Lan Qingyou's potions, The High Priestess's crystals, The Star's armor and tents, The Empress's vegetables, The Magician's Cards, and so on. They were all essential items guaranteed to sell out instantly.
Naturally, no one objected to the proposal.
It was nothing more than a simple matter of copying, pasting, and tapping away on their keyboards.
And so...
"Announcement: Following deliberations by the Kalim Supreme Council, newly minted council currency will be issued starting today. Transmigrators may exchange any materials for it. The tentative exchange rate is ten basic materials for one copper coin. One hundred copper coins equal one silver coin, and one hundred silver coins equal one gold coin."
Tap-tap-tap-tap—
Just like when the Supreme Council was first established, the initial 'Announcement' was immediately followed by a barrage of identical messages, instantly stupefying the idle onlookers who lurked in the World Channel every day for gossip.
"Hold on, what is this Supreme Council thinking?"
"Currency?"
"We've crossed over to another damn world and you still want to exploit us? Damn capitalists!"
"Well, I'm certainly not going to exchange anything for these copper coins."
"They even set up a base-100 system. How considerate, just like a video game."
"Hahaha, exactly. With an exchange rate like this, wouldn't a newbie easily earn dozens of copper coins just by working eight hours a day?"
"The capitalists have spoken: you have money now, so it's time to start spending, child."
"I really don't know what these people are thinking. We've survived for half a year just fine, and now they have to pull this stunt."
"Yeah, everyone's used to the barter system by now. Things like currency are completely unnecessary, aren't they?"
Upon seeing the Supreme Council make another move, one by one, the survivors activated their sarcastic mockery mode.
Anyone with half a brain could figure out that issuing this currency was just a ploy to seize legitimate authority. Or rather, it was a way to force everyone to acknowledge this hastily assembled, ragtag organization.
Sigh!
'Well, I absolutely won't play along!'
'As long as I don't use it, your little ragtag group will remain nothing more than a ragtag group.'
This was essentially what many people thought when they saw the flood of announcements on their screens.
It wasn't exactly rebelliousness; they just genuinely disliked these people who had previously paraded around under the banner of the Blue Star Federation.
Don't ask why. If you must know, they just did.
"Announcement 2: Following deliberations by the Kalim Supreme Council, it has been decided to establish Teleportation Arrays across more than a hundred regions, including the Crushed Stone Wilderness, Bone Burial Ground, Serene Coast, Double Moon Bay, Golden Plains, West Wind Plateau, and The Abandoned Land. For just 10 copper coins, you can enjoy teleportation services to all areas except private territories. Additional regional Teleportation Arrays will be opened in the future, so please stay tuned."
...
The very same people who had just been in full mocking mode fell into a collective silence upon seeing the second announcement flood the screen.
'What did I just read?'
'Establishing Teleportation Arrays? Over a hundred regions? Teleportation for just 10 copper coins? And more regions will open up later?'
'Am I dreaming?'
'Heh, yeah, that must be it. Otherwise, how could I be having a dream like this?'
"Announcement 3: Following deliberations by the Kalim Supreme Council, the 'Adventurer's Guild' is officially established. Anyone can spend one silver coin to obtain an Adventurer Card, register as an adventurer, and accept corresponding quests."
"The Adventurer Card comes equipped with functions for chatting, storage, data transmission, positioning, scanning, and photography, making it convenient for everyone to use out in the wild."
Dun-dun-dun!!?
When the third announcement appeared, an intense, dramatic melody seemed to echo in the minds of the crowd who had previously thought they were still asleep.
'This makes no scientific sense!'
'This isn't scientific at all!'
'Chatting, storage, transmission, positioning, scanning, and photography!?'
'The functions of this so-called Adventurer Card heavily overlap with the Magic Desk. Is the Supreme Council trying to completely replace the Magic Desk?'
'No, that's not right.'
'The Magic Desk won't be replaced.'
'After all, the Magic Desk still has the appraisal function and handles Shelter upgrades. Those two functions alone can't be replaced by an Adventurer Card.'
'However... this Card seems incredibly convenient.'
'At the very least, when out in the wild, a pure storage function will definitely be a massive help.'
'Whether it's for transporting goods or doing anything else, it would be extremely handy.'
'Aside from that, even though we don't know exactly how the positioning and scanning features work, the fact that they were specifically highlighted rather than lumped into an "etcetera" means they must have some merit.'
'So... should we go register as adventurers?'
'It's only about two or three days' worth of income anyway. It's a bit pricey, but the cost-performance ratio is high, making it totally acceptable.'
'No, no, no! Didn't we all agree to boycott these guys from the Supreme Council?! How can we be bought off by such a minor convenience!?'
'No way! I have to stay true to my principles!'
'I will absolutely not become a pawn to be exploited by these remnants of the Blue Star Federation.'
'You've got to be kidding me.'
'It was one thing being a wage slave back on the Blue Star, but after finally escaping that hellscape, why would I eagerly rush to be exploited all over again?'
'Wouldn't that mean I transmigrated for nothing?'
