Chapter 109: The Big Fish Takes the Bait

~8 min read 1,420 words

The air inside the warehouse seemed to freeze; dust danced wildly in the shaft of light pouring through a breach, yet could not dispel the killing intent that permeated the space. The muzzles of over a dozen assault rifles, like the forked tongues of vipers, locked onto the two figures at the center of the floor.

Facing Qin Feng's undisguised contempt and killing intent, the black-clad leader's eyes chilled. He did not grow angry; instead, with the smugness of a hunter whose prey had walked into the net, he sneered:

"Whether or not we're worthy, you'll know soon enough. Mr. Qin Feng, we know you have certain... special abilities. But here, you can't fly away even if you grew wings. Cooperate obediently, and you'll suffer a little less flesh and blood."

He waved his hand, and two subordinates immediately stepped forward with rifles raised, ready to seize them.

Rose, shielded behind Qin Feng, endured the searing pain and dizziness, and called out anxiously in a low voice: "Don't worry about me! Go! They came prepared!" She knew the methods of the Shadow Trade Guild all too well—no matter how formidable Qin Feng was, falling into their carefully laid trap spelled more misfortune than fortune.

Yet Qin Feng seemed not to have heard her warning, nor did he look at the two gunmen closing in. His gaze, like an icy searchlight, swept across the shadows on the warehouse's second floor, swept across the gaps between the shipping containers, and finally settled on a corner at the deepest end of the warehouse that appeared to be piled with miscellaneous goods.

There, hidden, was an extremely faint energy source that could not escape his enhanced perception, accompanied by a nearly imperceptible... hum of electronic equipment running.

Surveillance? Or signal jamming?

It doesn't matter anymore.

The cold arc at the corner of Qin Feng's mouth widened a fraction.

"It seems that to hook this 'big fish' that is me, your Shadow Trade Guild really did spare no expense." Qin Feng's voice echoed through the cavernous warehouse, tinged with mockery.

The black-clad leader's pupils contracted slightly—Qin Feng had actually called out their origin in one breath! This further confirmed the value of the intelligence; this man must be captured!

"So much the better! Move!" He wasted no more words and barked sharply.

The two approaching gunmen immediately accelerated—one rifle muzzle aimed at Qin Feng, the other reaching out to grab Rose behind him!

At this critical, hair-raising moment!

Qin Feng moved!

His movements exceeded the limits of human visual capture, like a blurred ghost-shadow!

"Bang! Bang!"

Two extremely faint, muffled sounds, like pebbles thrown into water.

The two charging gunmen didn't even see what had happened; they only felt a tearing, heart-wrenching pain shoot through their gun-wielding wrists, as if the bones had instantly shattered! The rifles flew from their hands, and their bodies were sent staggering backward by a tremendous force, crashing to the ground!

And Qin Feng still stood in place, as if he had never moved. Only the dust swirling faintly beneath his feet bore witness to that lightning-fast motion.

Everyone was stunned!

Including the black-clad gunmen, including the Leader at their head, and even including Rose behind him!

What speed was this?! What strength was this?!

"Open fire! Kill on sight!" The Leader reacted with extreme speed—though shocked, he was decisive and ruthless, immediately changing the order!

But it was already too late!

The instant his words fell!

"Boom—!!!"

The seemingly sturdy roof of the warehouse was violently torn open by a ferocious force, creating a massive breach! Broken rubble and steel bars rained down like droplets!

Immediately after, three figures like black lightning descended from the sky, bearing individual flight devices (experimental prototypes developed by Shield using some of the advanced concepts Qin Feng had provided), wielding specialized pulse weapons that flickered with ghostly blue arcs! They landed precisely at three key strategic points around Qin Feng!

It was Lei Zhan and the elite troops of Shield he had brought! They had never left at all, monitoring every move inside the warehouse from the outside using high-altitude reconnaissance equipment! The instant Qin Feng gave the signal to act (those two muffled sounds were the signal), they launched a thunderous assault!

"Leave none alive!" The instant Lei Zhan landed, his icy gaze swept over the panicked black-clad men like a death god's verdict.

"Zing-zing-zing—!"

The pulse weapons emitted a low hum as blue electric light shot forth! These weapons were not primarily designed for killing, but their powerful electromagnetic pulses and currents could instantly paralyze electronic equipment and cause human muscles to spasm, rendering them unable to resist!

The black-clad men clearly had not anticipated the enemy possessing such equipment and such swift aerial support—their formation fell into complete disarray! The rifles in their hands malfunctioned one after another under the pulse interference; trying to draw pistols or engage in close combat, they were struck down one by one by the precise, lethal electric light, screaming as they collapsed and convulsed!

The Leader was both shocked and furious; while dodging the pulse attacks in a sorry state, he tried to rush toward the corner hiding the Communication Equipment, wanting to send out an alarm!

But he had only taken two steps when a figure appeared before him like a phantom.

It was Qin Feng.

"Where do you think you're going?" Qin Feng's voice seemed to come from the deepest depths of the nine hells.

The Leader's pupils contracted sharply. Without thinking, he whipped a leg carrying the full force of his body in a vicious side-kick aimed at Qin Feng's skull! This kick was extremely fast and brutally powerful—enough to shatter brick and stone!

Qin Feng neither dodged nor evaded; he merely casually raised his left hand.

"Slap!"

A crisp sound.

That powerful, heavy side-kick was blocked by his palm with effortless ease, utterly unmoved! As if what it struck was not flesh and blood, but a wall forged of steel!

The Leader's eyes were instantly filled with boundless terror! How could this be?!

Before he could react further, Qin Feng's five fingers suddenly clenched tight!

"Crack—!"

A teeth-grinding sound of bone shattering rang out!

The Leader let out an utterly wretched scream—his shinbone had been crushed to powder by Qin Feng's bare palm!

Qin Feng casually flung him aside, like tossing away a piece of trash, sending the screaming Leader flying to crash heavily against a distant shipping container, knocking him unconscious.

The battle, from start to finish, lasted less than thirty seconds.

Over a dozen elite armed personnel of the Shadow Trade Guild were completely annihilated. Inside the warehouse, only the sizzling residual current of the pulse weapons remained, along with the smell of burnt char and the stench of blood permeating the air.

Lei Zhan strode quickly to Qin Feng's side, bowed, and said: "Chief Qin, the perimeter has been cleaned up; confirmed no fish escaped the net."

Qin Feng nodded, didn't even look at the wreckage covering the floor, turned and crouched down, supporting Rose, who was already swaying on the verge of collapse from blood loss and shock.

"Now, we can give the injection." He took out the Strong-effect Emergency Drug, his tone brooking no argument.

Rose stared at him blankly, looking at his face so close at hand—still calm yet carrying an undeniable force—then looked at the Shield team members who had descended like divine soldiers, and at the enemies sprawled all around, stripped of their ability to resist...

On her pale face, a complex smile finally appeared—relieved, tinged with bitterness and disbelief—and she weakly cursed:

"Little Madman... you now... are really fucking... a monster..."

Having said that, her head lolled to one side, and she completely passed out.

Qin Feng carefully injected the drug into her vein, then lifted her light yet battered body into a horizontal embrace.

He glanced at the hole in the warehouse roof, then at the unconscious black-clad men on the ground, his gaze ice-cold.

The big fish has taken the bait?

Too bad, the fisherman underestimated the fish's fangs.

Now, it's the fisherman's turn to pay the price.

"Clean up the scene, take that ringleader away. We pull out."

Qin Feng, holding Rose, under the escort of Lei Zhan and the others, calmly left the abandoned warehouse that had already become a cage.

Sunlight spilled down once more, but beneath the skies of Marseille, a blood-colored storm aimed at the "Shadow Trade Guild" had only just begun to brew.
