Chapter 341: Big Boss! I
Mo Yu's sudden appearance, and his casual dismissal of the crisis—even labeling the assassin a "company security captain"—plunged the entire banquet hall into an eerie silence. Everyone stared at him, their eyes filled with disbelief and deep wariness.
Lin Zhennan, having weathered many storms, quickly suppressed his shock and forced a smile back onto his face, though it looked stiff: "Oh… so you're Mr. Mo Yu! Thank you for stepping in! Truly—heroes emerge in youth!"
He praised him aloud, but inside his mind churned like a storm. This sudden young man radiated an unfathomable aura and employed methods beyond comprehension—and clearly had deep ties to Xia Wan and the New Era! The New Era's depths were far greater than he'd imagined!
Mo Yu waved his hand casually, as if he'd just swatted a mosquito: "No big deal, Chairman Lin. Maintaining order at the venue is everyone's duty."
His gaze swept across the hall; guests who had previously scrutinized Xia Wan with hidden motives now instinctively avoided his eyes, not daring to meet his stare.
"Alright, minor hiccup over. Let's carry on—eat, drink, donate as you please!" Mo Yu grinned, perfectly playing the role of an "enthusiastic security captain," though the aura of this "security captain" left every elite in the room struggling to breathe.
The banquet's atmosphere could no longer return to its earlier "harmony" and "vibrancy"; instead, it carried an indescribable tension and cautious restraint. People still talked and toasted, but their glances kept drifting toward the main table—especially toward Mo Yu, in his long robe, idly gnawing on a fruit he'd pulled from nowhere again.
Xia Wan welcomed the quiet. She could feel that most of the hostile, hidden eyes watching her had now withdrawn. Mo Yu's mere presence was the strongest deterrent of all.
The annual banquet finally drew to a close amid a slightly hasty atmosphere. Guests began to take their leave, and Lin Zhennan mustered his strength to see them off one by one at the entrance.
When it came to Xia Wan and Mo Yu, Lin Zhennan's demeanor grew even more respectful, bordering on obsequious.
"Miss Xia, Mr. Mo Yu, our hospitality today was inadequate—please forgive us," Lin Zhennan bowed deeply. "Should you ever have leisure in the future, I shall gladly prepare my humble abode for you!"
Mo Yu finished the last bite of fruit, flicked the pit precisely into a distant trash bin, clapped his hands, and gave Lin Zhennan a knowing smile: "Chairman Lin, you're too kind. This place… is quite interesting. Perhaps we'll come back often to 'play.'"
Lin Zhennan's heart tightened, but his smile didn't falter: "Welcome! Most warmly welcome!"
Xia Wan gave a slight nod in return and, surrounded by her guards, walked out with Mo Yu.
Just as they were about to step into their waiting vehicle, a figure staggered out from behind a nearby pillar and blocked their path.
He was a young man in his early twenties, dressed in expensive but garishly styled designer suits, his hair dyed an eye-catching gray, his face flushed with alcohol and an almost fanatical excitement. He was Lin Zhennan's youngest son, Lin Yaozu, a notorious playboy of Modu.
"W-wait!" Lin Yaozu waved his arms, eyes locked on Mo Yu, his speech slurred by excitement and drunkenness. "Y-you're the guy who just… whoosh! Turned the lights on and took down the killer?!"
Mo Yu raised an eyebrow, saying nothing—he found this drunken brat somewhat amusing.
Xia Wan's guards immediately stepped forward to separate Lin Yaozu.
But Lin Yaozu ignored them, shoving past the guards (who dared not use real force against the Lin family's heir), and leaned close to Mo Yu, beaming with sycophantic admiration: "Big Boss! Awesome! So awesome! What you just did was even cooler than in the movies!"
He pulled out a gold-edged business card and trembled as he offered it with both hands: "Big Boss! Let's be friends! I'm Lin Yaozu. In Modu, if you need anything, just give the word!"
Mo Yu looked at the card radiating the stench of nouveau riche, didn't take it, and merely smiled faintly at him.
Seeing Mo Yu's silence, Lin Yaozu assumed he was unimpressed and grew more desperate. He lowered his voice, speaking with a self-satisfied air of insider knowledge: "Big Boss, I know someone like you wouldn't care about these common trinkets! You like thrills, right?"
He glanced around, then whispered even lower, with a knowing, suggestive tone: "I've got a private club in Puxi. Just got in a few 'top-tier' girls—guaranteed virgin, plus the latest model 'toys' imported from the Russians—absolutely intense! If you're free tonight…"
He didn't finish, but the implication was crystal clear.
Xia Wan frowned deeply beside him; the guards' faces turned grim. This fool dared to desecrate Elder Mo Yu!
Yet Mo Yu's smile deepened. He reached out and patted Lin Yaozu on the shoulder.
Lin Yaozu was stunned—warmth surged from his shoulder, his drunkenness receded by half, and he stared at Mo Yu with even greater excitement.
Mo Yu spoke slowly, in a magnetic, hypnotic voice:
"Kid, I appreciate your kindness."
"But I'm usually busy at night."
He paused, leaned close to Lin Yaozu's ear, and whispered with a soft chuckle only the two could hear:
"If you really want to play…"
"Come find me."
"I've got a yearly VIP at the Abyss Arena."
"That's where real thrills happen."
With that, he ignored Lin Yaozu, who had instantly turned to stone—his face shifting from red to white, then to blue—and opened the car door, gesturing for Xia Wan to enter.
The vehicle slowly pulled away from the hotel.
Left behind, Lin Yaozu stood frozen, clutching the unsent business card, muttering Mo Yu's final words over and over, sweat instantly drenching his forehead.
"Abyss… Arena… yearly… VIP…"
As a top-tier playboy, he'd vaguely heard of this name—a legendary, illegal dimension where multiple worlds connected, hosting the bloodiest, cruelest death matches. Those who entered either became legends… or became fertilizer. To have a yearly VIP there… what did that even mean?!
He'd just… invited a being like this to play with women? And boasted about toys?!
A bone-deep chill shot from the soles of his feet straight to the crown of his head. His legs buckled; he nearly collapsed.
Watching the car vanish into the distance, his earlier fanaticism and sycophancy were gone—replaced by boundless terror and dread.
He'd almost… almost played himself to death.
Inside the car, Xia Wan looked at Mo Yu, who sat beside her, calm and relaxed—as if he'd merely teased a stray cat or dog—and asked: "Elder Mo Yu… do you really have a VIP at that arena?"
Mo Yu yawned lazily: "Who knows? I just made it up—to scare off that brat who didn't know his place."
He smirked: "But judging by his face, he won't sleep tonight."
Xia Wan: "…"
Right. Typical Mo Yu.
The car merged into Modu's glittering traffic, leaving the world of fame and noise far behind.
The "Modu Annual Banquet" ended, its rhythm woven from absurdity and peril.
