Chapter 349: Are You Really Human From Outer Space?

~6 min read 1,045 words

Like a startled horde of corpses, the bizarre "Lizardmen" surged forth from the energy mist and shattered rock layers near the Guixu entrance. Their movements were stiff yet swift, their numb vertical pupils locked rigidly onto the massive Mother Ship, emitting silent hisses as the dark red energy filaments on their bodies writhed like living things, exuding a nauseating aura of chaos.

"Increase shield energy output to 120%! Activate all point-defense turrets!"

"Combat personnel to stations! Non-combat personnel to safety pods!"

"Deploy spirit interference barrier! Attempt to sever their connection to the ruin's energy!"

The captain gave a calm order; countless gun muzzles and energy emitters protruded from the Mother Ship's massive hull, glinting with cold light. A pale blue spirit interference field spread outward from the ship, trying to disrupt the dark red filaments linking the Lizardmen.

Yet the effect was minimal.

Those dark red filaments seemed fused with Guixu itself; the interference field was like a pebble dropped into mud, stirring only fleeting ripples before vanishing. The Lizardmen were affected even less—they appeared entirely dominated by the ruin's chaotic energy, reduced to nothing but the instinct to attack outsiders.

The first wave of Lizardmen charged like suicide bombs, fearless, slamming into the Mother Ship's energy shield!

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Clusters of murky energy sparks exploded across the shield's surface, accompanied by dark green blood sprayed from the Lizardmen's bursting bodies—highly corrosive. The shield's energy reading began to decline slowly but steadily.

"Their blood is highly corrosive! Shield energy consumption is accelerating!"

"Open fire! Free fire! Stop them from getting closer!"

Point-defense cannons spat searing flames; energy beams slashed like death's scythes, shredding waves of charging Lizardmen. But their numbers were too vast, and they showed no regard for casualties—those behind trampled over the remains of their fallen comrades and kept surging forward!

Worse still, some Lizardmen would suddenly swell upon death or severe injury, then detonate like unstable energy bombs, generating shockwaves and chaotic energy flows that strained the shield significantly.

The battle had been white-hot from the start.

Xia Wan stood on the bridge, frowning. She could sense these Lizardmen were not mere organisms—they were more like "immune cells" extending from Guixu, a chaotic entity itself: fearless of death, endless in number. If this continued, the Mother Ship's energy reserves would face a severe test.

"Let my team go clear a sector!" demanded Mo Yu, the combat commander of the Star-Chasing operation, a stern-faced Special Forces Colonel known as Blade. "We need to establish an outer perimeter—we can't dump all the pressure onto the ship's shield!"

Xia Wan paused briefly, then nodded. "Approved. Deploy the Blades team. Use the Mother Ship as cover. Clear enemies to the port side and establish a temporary line. Watch your protection—their blood is highly corrosive and energy-contaminated."

"Understood!"

The port-side hatch of the Mother Ship opened. Dozens of Blades team members, clad in the latest power armor and wielding specialized energy weapons, surged out like a swarm of bees, jetting forward into the chaotic battlefield.

Their arrival immediately eased pressure on the port shield. Their superior gear and seamless coordination gave them absolute dominance in close-quarters combat—energy blades and precise shots continuously cut down the charging Lizardmen.

Yet the brutality of battle became instantly clear. One soldier's armor was splashed with corrosive blood; the sturdy alloy corroded visibly before their eyes, spewing acrid white smoke. Another was caught in the blast of a self-detonating Lizardman at point-blank range; though his armor absorbed most of the shock, internal life-sign monitors immediately blared alarms—indicating mild spirit contamination and energy vibration.

"Medical team, stand by! Prepare to extract wounded!"

The battlefield was a giant meat grinder, consuming lives and resources every second.

Xia Wan watched the screen, her Tiankong Guardian power surging within her. She longed to intervene, to sweep away these monsters with thunderous force. But she could not—she was the final card, reserved for greater threats, and needed to maintain deep connection with the Mother Ship to ensure the human ark's overall stability.

At that moment, Mo Yu, who had been slumped in his chair as if uninvolved, suddenly let out a soft "Huh?" and sat upright.

His gaze, intrigued, fixed on the main screen, locking onto a Lizardman that had just burst from the energy mist—towering in size, its scales gleaming with dark gold.

This Lizardman was clearly different. Though its eyes remained chaotic, they held a faint trace of clarity and struggle—something intelligent. Unlike the others, it did not charge blindly. Instead, it hovered at the battlefield's edge, observing the Mother Ship and the Blades team, its throat emitting low, suppressed roars.

"Fascinating…" Mo Yu rubbed his chin, his expression turning curious.

The next instant, he did something no one expected.

He did not attack. Instead—he used the bridge's external speaker to shout something in an ancient, obscure language, thick with the texture of scraping scales, directly toward the dark gold Lizardman.

The language was unlike any human tongue, pulsing with primal power.

For a single instant, the entire battlefield—even the frenzied ordinary Lizardmen—froze.

The dark gold Lizardman shuddered violently, lifting its head. In its chaotic vertical pupils, a flash of clarity passed—then it stared fixedly at the bridge of the Mother Ship!

It let out a louder, more frantic roar—filled with shock and disbelief.

Mo Yu seemed pleased with the reaction. He switched back to Common Tongue, still using the speaker, and asked the dark gold Lizardman in a teasing, probing tone:

"Hey, big guy!"

"Judging by your reaction… did your ancestors have something to do with those idiots who got themselves wiped out—the Order Weavers?"

"Or…"

He paused, his tone growing more playful, and asked a question that turned everyone on the bridge who understood Common Tongue to stone:

"Are you… actually human… from outer space?"

Are you really… human from outer space?!

Those words exploded like thunder in every mind.

Human… from outer space?!

These grotesque, beast-like Lizardmen… could they be human? From outer space?!

How could that be?!

Xia Wan stared at Mo Yu, then at the screen, where the dark gold Lizardman now thrashed in greater agitation.

Could it be… these Lizardmen were not remnants of an Ancient Civilization or genetically modified creatures…

…but their origin was tied to humanity?!
