Chapter 74: You Stupid Girl! Dad Has Nothing!
As Qin Feng, consumed by rage, boarded a private jet bound for the city where his sister was, at the other end of that same city, in a dilapidated apartment in an old neighborhood, another storm ignited by "bad luck" was unfolding.
This was Lin Weiwei's home. Lin Weiwei was the girl in campus who had poured boiling water on Qin Yu and spared no effort in humiliating her, dressed in a Chanel suit.
Unlike the image of a wealthy heiress she projected at school, her home sat in a typical "old, broken, small" district of the city, where the stairwell was piled with clutter and the walls peeled and cracked. The furniture was worn, the appliances outdated, and every corner exuded poverty.
At this moment, the living room was suffocatingly tense.
Lin Weiwei, covering her face, sat on a faded, peeling sofa, sobbing softly. Her father, Lin Daqiang—a thin, middle-aged man with heavy dark circles and cheap work clothes—stood with his hands on his hips, screaming at her, spittle flying:
"Cry! Cry! All you know how to do is cry! Do you think I spent money sending you to college so you could go cause trouble?!" Lin Daqiang's face turned ashen, his chest heaving, "Boiling water on a classmate? You've gotten mighty bold, Lin Weiwei! The counselor called me directly! They're threatening to press charges! Where do you think I'll save face now?!"
Lin Weiwei's mother, a woman with a haggard face and prematurely gray hair, paced anxiously nearby, wanting to comfort but daring not to, muttering softly: "Honey, calm down. Weiwei just acted out of foolishness…"
"Foolishness?!" Lin Daqiang whirled on his wife, eyes bulging, "Is this just foolishness? This is stupidity! This is malice! Do you know who she poured boiling water on? The sister of the boss of Qin Feng Pharmaceuticals! Qin Feng Pharmaceuticals! The hottest company in the whole country right now! They could crush us with a single finger!"
Though merely an ordinary worker, Lin Daqiang had heard from news reports and coworkers about Qin Feng Pharmaceuticals' current glory. The thought of his daughter having offended the sister of such a powerful figure made the sky feel like it was collapsing—overwhelming fear and helplessness drove him to scream.
"If they really press charges, how do we pay? We don't have a cent! Sell me off and we still couldn't cover it! We might even end up in jail! You won't even finish college—you'll ruin your whole life!" Lin Daqiang grew angrier by the second, snatched up an old enamel cup from the table, and hurled it to the floor with a sharp, shattering crash.
Lin Weiwei flinched violently, her sobs growing louder, but a flicker of resentment and defiance flashed in her eyes as she shrieked back: "Why me?! So what if she has a rich brother? What's so great about Qin Yu? She was flirting with Senior Chen! What's wrong with me teaching her a lesson?! You only blame me! If you're so tough, be rich and powerful like her brother!"
These words were like oil on fire, igniting years of suppressed humiliation and helplessness in Lin Daqiang. He lunged forward, raising his rough hand—but seeing his daughter's twisted, tear-streaked face, he let it drop uselessly, his body sagging as if his spine had been pulled out. He staggered back two steps and leaned against the cold wall.
He pointed at Lin Weiwei, his finger trembling with emotion, his voice now hoarse and broken from years of life's grind:
"Rich and powerful? Hah… hah…" Lin Daqiang let out two bitter laughs, his cloudy eyes bloodshot, "You stupid girl! Open your eyes! Look at this house! Your dad has nothing! No ability! No power, no influence! I counted on you to amount to something… but you? What have you done?!"
"Where did you get these designer clothes, these fancy bags? Huh? Did you use the money your mother and I scrimped and saved to give you for living expenses? Or even borrowed money to buy them? You strut around outside pretending to be a rich girl, then come home and treat us like dirt! And now you dare cause such a massive disaster!"
Lin Daqiang's voice cracked with tears, a deep sorrow spreading through the room. His wife stood silently weeping beside him—this family had long been on the brink of collapse.
Lin Weiwei was stunned by her father's raw words, momentarily forgetting to cry, yet her face still wore defiance and stubbornness.
At that moment, the old steel door of the Lin family's apartment was knocked on from outside.
The knocks were not loud, but carried an unyielding rhythm, each tap striking like a hammer on the hearts of the three inside.
The arguing and sobbing in the living room ceased instantly.
Lin Daqiang and his wife exchanged a glance—both saw terror in the other's eyes. Who could it be at this hour?
Lin Daqiang swallowed hard, forcing down his dread, and walked to the door, voice trembling: "W-who is it?"
From outside came a low, cold male voice, devoid of any emotion:
"Open the door. Mr. Qin wants to see you."
"M-Mr. Qin?!" Lin Daqiang's legs buckled, nearly collapsing. The inevitable had come—and so soon!
Lin Weiwei's face turned instantly ashen; her earlier arrogance vanished, replaced by boundless terror, her body curling into a trembling ball.
With trembling hands, Lin Daqiang summoned every ounce of strength to turn the Lock.
Outside stood two men in black suits, tall and straight-backed, eyes sharp as falcons. Merely standing there, they radiated an oppressive, suffocating aura.
One of them scanned the chaotic living room, then fixed his gaze on the shivering Lin Weiwei, his tone flat yet absolute:
"Miss Lin Weiwei, and both of you. Please come with us."
"Mr. Qin has arrived."
