Chapter 108: What

~7 min read 1,348 words

While preparing the Suture Kit, Anesthesia, and Needle and Thread, Wu Zong steadied his emotions to avoid any major issues with the upcoming minor suturing, all while pondering the flick of a finger.

The flick of Ji Xiang's finger just now had been stylish to the extreme; even without using a skill, it had still triggered muscle memory, causing that damned sense of familiarity to be carved into his very bones.

"Doctor Xiao Ji, how are you so familiar with Northern Pike?"

"I watched my teacher do it during my internship," Ji Xiang said casually.

In the System Operating Room, he also considered himself an intern, that was what Ji Xiang thought.

As for that teacher, they had dissected many types of fish for him to see, and he had mastered the biological characteristics of every single one.

But there was no need to tell Wu Zong these things.

"Impressive," Wu Zong sighed, "Didn't you graduate from SYS University? Are there Northern Pike in the south too?"

Ji Xiang was not interested in Wu Zong's keenness, even finding it slightly annoying; this person asked too many questions.

"DOGFISH, Wu Zong, do you know what a CATFISH is?" Ji Xiang changed the subject.

Northern Pike, literally translated, is DOGFISH, but what the hell is a cat fish?

Wu Zong was stunned for a moment.

"It's a Catfish," Ji Xiang told a cold joke.

DOGCAT, Wu Zong's brain crashed from this simple cold joke.

Originally he had known, but he had never made that association. The main thing was that after seeing the Patient, Wu Zong had been in agony, feeling life was not worth living.

He had been prepared to work hard all night, not knowing if he could remove the Northern Pike without causing damage.

Yet none of that happened; Ji Xiang reached out, flicked his finger, and solved the problem—it was simple as hell.

Wu Zong's mind was filled with the image of Ji Xiang reaching out and flicking his finger to solve the problem.

Fortunately, the Patient's surgical area was not severely damaged; there were a few small cuts, and the deep ones only needed a single stitch. It was resolved with a total of 3 stitches.

After instructing the Patient to stay in the Emergency Department for a Tetanus shot and to be observed for a few more days, Wu Zong and Ji Xiang returned to the ward.

"Doctor Xiao Ji, your technique is truly very proficient," Wu Zong sighed while walking.

"It's alright," Ji Xiang replied "humbly."

"By the way, my Laser Stone Crushing technique is improving fast, right!"

There was a hint of showing off in Wu Zong's words—not the overbearing kind, but the way a child shows off to a teacher or parent after achieving results.

Ji Xiang felt slightly helpless.

It seemed that he had been giving Wu Zong a "boost" too often, reaching an addictive dose, and subconsciously, Wu Zong had come to view him as a teacher, as a superior Doctor.

"Very good, Wu Zong, you are improving exceptionally fast," Ji Xiang replied as cautiously as possible, even using the respectful "you."

Wu Zong began to ramble about his gains, while Ji Xiang hummed and hawed in response.

It seemed he really couldn't give Wu Zong another "boost," even if it was positive energy.

If this continued, Ji Xiang was truly afraid that in a month, during the morning shift handover, Wu Zong would report his work to him in front of the entire department.

Ji Xiang could already imagine how dark Shen Ke's face would be at that time.

It was bad for both himself and Wu Zong; next time, definitely not!

While listening to Wu Zong's chatter, Ji Xiang looked at the next task.

【Emergency Task: Emergency! Emergency!! Phase Four

Task Content: Correctly treat an emergency Patient.

Task Time: 12 hours.

Task Reward: 10,000 Experience Points, 20 Surgical Points.】

This kind of continuous task made Ji Xiang feel a bit dazed, wondering if the system had been broken by him farming rewards.

But since there was a task, it meant there was still an emergency!

Wu Zong really attracted Patients; he was truly pitiful.

Ji Xiang glanced at Wu Zong; that pitiful guy was still rambling on about his insights into Laser Stone Crushing.

What a pitiful and unlucky Resident Chief; to be this busy in the Urology Department, wouldn't one be worked to death in other departments?

The ringtone of a cell phone interrupted Wu Zong.

He shivered subconsciously.

Ji Xiang sighed inwardly; during his internship, the Doctors on the front line of Clinical duty were all like this. Receiving a call in the middle of the night, they were terrified.

He guessed Wu Zong already had supraventricular tachycardia; his heart was trembling violently.

"Director, it's so late and you haven't slept yet," Wu Zong answered the phone.

"Alright, has the person arrived?"

"I'll prepare right now!"

As Wu Zong spoke, he had already stopped walking, turned around, and headed back toward the Emergency Department.

"Wu Zong, what happened?" Ji Xiang asked.

"A Patient the Director performed a partial Kidney Resection on has had an incident," Wu Zong said with a serious face, walking with a sense of urgency.

Finally, it had come; this should be the last emergency, Ji Xiang thought to himself.

"Bleeding, you know, Doctor Xiao Ji, the thing we fear most with a partial Kidney Resection is bleeding."

"How is our hospital's level of interventional hemostasis?" Ji Xiang asked.

Wu Zong had wanted to explain to Ji Xiang how to handle a partial Kidney Resection once massive bleeding occurred, but Ji Xiang hit the nail on the head, asking directly about the key point.

"Our hospital's Interventional Department's overall level is not bad... but it's hard to put into words," Wu Zong replied subconsciously, then asked strangely, "Doctor Xiao Ji, how did you know?"

Wu Zong's attitude toward Ji Xiang was always fluctuating, even though he himself couldn't figure out Ji Xiang's position in his heart.

His question was also very strange.

"I saw it during my internship; the interventional level at our Affiliated Hospital is very high," Ji Xiang replied casually, "Wu Zong, shouldn't we contact the Director of the Interventional Department?"

"Liu Zhuren is the one making contact; that is a personal favor between department heads, we shouldn't get involved."

Wu Zong hurried to the entrance of the Emergency Department.

After waiting a few minutes, a Corolla pulled up, a middle-aged man hurriedly got out of the car, and helped a pale-faced old man out from the other door.

Seeing the old man's complexion, the first impression for both Wu Zong and Ji Xiang was Hemorrhagic Shock.

"Wait a moment, don't go!" Wu Zong said immediately.

He was just about to turn to push a wheelchair when he saw Ji Xiang run into the Emergency Department like a wild dog off its leash.

"Wu Zong, I'll go!"

Wu Zong was stunned; shouldn't the Standardized Training Student be doing the menial tasks at a time like this? Why did he subconsciously think that he was the junior Doctor?

However, the daze lasted only for a moment; he immediately comforted the Patient and the Family Member.

They were regular patients and were quite familiar with Wu Zong; after exchanging a few words, Wu Zong took his phone and walked a few steps away to call Liu Zhuren.

"Zhuren, it looks like bleeding; I'm going to have a Blood Routine checked and an Ultrasound done for him immediately," Wu Zong reported.

On the other end of the line, Liu Zhuren's voice was a bit hoarse.

"I'm coming now, tell me the Ultrasound results!"

"Got it, Zhuren, right away!"

The situation was urgent, and Wu Zong didn't have time to say more; seeing Ji Xiang come out pushing a wheelchair, he said a brief sentence and hung up the phone.

Performing the Ultrasound and drawing blood, the matter was clear; the Ultrasound indeed showed a fluid-filled dark area.

Bleeding!

"Ding-dong~"

The sound of a System Task rang in Ji Xiang's ears.
